Default Sunflower Seeds & Seeds in general

Hi there, just have a question about sunflower seeds and seeds in general, now that we are in maintenance land and everything looks and feels a bit scary, I just wondered where do seeds fit into the equation??

Are they classed as a carb? and are we best to eat them with something else?

Thanks to SMS's famous Anzac Bikkies I have discovered I like sunflower seeds and wondered if they were ok to have as a snack or am I best to steer clear???

Look forward to hearing your words of wisdom on this subject!!

Cheers
Melissa

Miss,

Once in maintenance, anything is okay. IN MODERATION!

RE: Sunflower Seeds: http://www.carbs-information.com/car...ower-seeds.htm

That is the key to everything. We can no longer sit down in front of the telly and shell and eat whole bags of sunflower seeds, or a whole punnet of cherries, or a whole 400g Cadbury bar of chocolate. What we can do is experiment to see how they affect us and how badly they affect us.

Good example were my Anzacs. I found, using a reduced amount of sugar (1/3 of what was originally called for in the original recipe) I was able to eat 3 bikkies per snack up to 3 times day with no problems. I adjusted the weights of the rolled oats to compensate for the addition of things like sunflower seeds and/or chopped almonds.

If I ate more (say 12 per day) I would notice weight gain, but one cannot use my 9/day as a guideline as the carbs affect each of us differently. My famous line is still the only way to go when entering maintenance "Tiptoe into Maintenance". This means taking 3 to 6 months to experiment to see just what you can and cannot do. Yeah, I know it sounds like a long time, especially considering you've just come off of maybe 6 to 9 months of weight loss programme. But in the scheme of the rest of your life as a "Thin" person, it worth it.

By the end of 6 months you will have pretty much readjusted to what your body can handle. (Always give yourself 48 hours after adding something new to your diet - 24 hours is not enough) if it's cool, then it's a matter of seeing if it did any damage at all or maybe you can combine it with something else (both in reduced quantities?). At the first sign of a crave, back away and stay away if you can for the obvious reason. Over indulgence is the killer.

Remember, if you get it right, you're right for many years as long as you accept the new lifestyle.

Thanks SMS

It's just getting the balance right huh!! Thanks for the link I shall go have a looksy and see what they have to say!!

And your bikkies are mighty fine, at this stage I can handle 4 a day, but managed to cut down to 3 today!! Might try more one day but don't want to go overboard!!

Thanks for your advice

Cheers
