Default Depression / Zoloft

Hello,
I am a sufferer of depression and take medication on a daily basis (Zoloft). I am eager to hear from other sufferers who have been on Cohen's for a while. Do you notice any difference to your depression levels? Has anyone felt well enough to come off medication once their serotonin levels are balanced. Thank you.

I'm on Wellbutrin, Nance, and I had the same question when I started. My clinic said to continue according to my doctor's recommendations for the duration of the plan. Re-evaluation might be in order once you're at goal (or in maintenance), but I'd ask your general practitioner about that, not the clinic.

I would suggest you keep in touch with your Dr and report how your progressing, if you do notice any differences they can adjust your dose accordingly. One thing that has been shown to be beneficial for woman with depression is having the opportunity to talk to others , those that did this more often had better results. I would suggest you make great use of this forum with this in mind - as well as any of your girlfriend of course. Daily contacts to talk are really therapeutic. I dont know if the diet helps, you can let us know - good luck

I WAS on Effexor but am no longer.....
I have never felt better since being on this program, but i would say that the 2 sessions of counselling i also got when i fitst started the program were a kick in the butt to the depression....

My suggestion is get a couple of session of counselling if you arent already, it will also help your ability to deal with stuff without food, which most of us tend to do when we have depression (especially when your medication causes increased apetite liek Lexapro -my first anti depressants did)

hey nance,

as zoloft is an ssri (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) i would suggest that you may have a good chance of getting off them when you have finished the program....i wouldnt detox before that....wait till your finished then talk to your dr about a slow withdrawal...whatever you do, dont just stop taking them...

I have been on Zoloft for 4 years now after suffering from post-natal depression after the birth of my 3rd child. Although I have lost weight I am feeling lower than I have in a very long time? I thought if I lost weight it would equate to feeling better psychologically as well. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I was suffering from depression. I spoke to my doctor and decided that I would go off my medication before I started loosing weight. My doctor said that if I was feeling really low that I had to force myself out of the house and go for a 30 minute walk. I did have a back up medication prescription if it all went pear shaped and I had to immediately go to the Doctor. I would like to say that with eating so well on this program and the odd emergency walk around the block or two I have never felt better. I would like to say that the depression has just evaporated with the kilos. I guess that I am one or the really lucky ones. I am aware that once I am on maintenance with this program will be the real test. No comfort food ever again it is just a crutch and just all bad for me. I will just have to get my butt off the chair and start walking if I feel any blueness. Water is going to be my new comfort food!

Good luck to everyone. Depression is very serious and a good Doctor and friends are really important.
Cheers Hobie

Karen,

I am very sorry to hear that ... I guess the first thing I would say is ... see your doctor. You need to manage this clinically, and constantly monitor for dangerous changes. There are many things he can do to assess your dosage, change your treatment etc. It sounds like you have some hormonal issues with depression, and as the program changes your hormones ( particularly influencing the reproductive ones) you should be monitoring them with your doctor to see how you are doing.

Hope you get it sorted.

Connie
