Default New RUBY

Hi all,
I have been on the program 1 week, and lost 4.5kg in the first week. Am more impressed though by the fact that I also lost a whopping 24cm from my body in just 1 week! Mind you, after spending nearly 2 years cleaning up my daughter's uneaten portions, and basically eating non-stop whilst at home, it's no wonder I had a lot of fluid to lose.
All going ok, except that I have intermittent days of extreme hunger... even with 3 ltrs water, and eating my fruits/ crackers...
Hoping the hunger and carb cravings stop soon.

Well done Ruby! That's a fantastic loss - both on the scales and in the inches - for the first week. I'm on my first day so hearing this is definitely very encouraging.

I'm quite worried about sugar cravings as well (I have a sweet tooth the size of China). Have you considered taking a chromium supplement? My consultant says it really helps with this and suggested popping a tablet around 4pm when we experience a dip in hormones - which apparently usually results in craving for sweets. The other supplement which is recommended by some here is Blackmores Sugar Balance I think.

Hi Francesca,
Good luck with your first week.
In actual fact the info you provided is spot on - I am ravenous between about 4 and 5 pm every some days, and this is also my 'sleepy' time , where I could just go to bed and SLEEP !! Unfortunately, having a toddler around doesn't really allow for indulgent naps any more !
So thanks for the tip; I will look into both those supplements... though I am on 7 supplement tablets a day already !! May as well add to the collection!
Best of luck to you,
keep in touch

How about setting aside two crackers and some of your fruit allocation for between 4-5pm every day?

And ah yes, I know too well the detrimental effect on naps which having a baby in the house can have. How old is yours? Mine is about 13 months.

Welcome, Ruby. I also find I'm hungry late afternoon. I usually have fruit and crispbreads. I'm also taking a chromium supplement.

Back again for the support. Still think the diet and the forum are the best ever, but too old to do it again. Now losing again slowly on maintenance diet. Ticker shows next intermediate goal only (5 kilos).

Hi Ruby,
Welcome to the forum.

I would be interested in some info on the body sculpting you did, exercise, what your body fat% was any hints or advice would be great!

Have a good day.

Hi Shell,
Thanks for your message.
Congrats on your mammoth weight loss ! 50kg - amazing !!
As for the body sculpting, well this was done BC (before child), so I had plenty of spare time and energy. I have added my final pics to my personal file on here, so you can see that my weight was 56.6kg and body fat was about 23%, and I even put on a bikini for the final pics !!
I did mostly upper body work, as I felt that cycling to the gym (about a 35min ride) took care of the lower body toning. I had a personal trainer for 4 months and we alternated days of intense cardio (90 mins of run, bike, swim) with less intense days (30 min run only). But I incorporated 3 PUMP classes and 3 free weights sessions into my week.
I did dislike running before my PT taught me how to hold my body and breathe properly. Now I have a treadmill at home, and try to walk about 3 - 4 times per week (while my daughter has a little nap). This is really all I can do now, as trying to get to a gym is impossible.
Hope this helps!

Hey there Kate,
Great to see you and I are on very similar paths.
Best of luck to you, in reaching your goal by Xmas. Yours is all about that holiday, and mine is all about being in 'tip top' shape in order to try for baby #2.
cheers,

YIPPEE !! 1.4kg gone this week (end week 2 for me).
Am hoping that I can lose the 1.1kg in the next week, that I have set myself as a goal, and then I can tick off goal number 1 and I will be back under 70kg. That will be a relief, I really don't like being up there !!

I'm looking forward to getting into the 60s too, Ruby, but it's taken me a lot longer to get there than it has you. You're off to a great start.

Ruby!

You are doing so so well! Very inspiring!

One of my motivations for being on Cohens is to lose all my baby weight and be in fine form to start thinking about No 2, so we have that in common!

I'm sure you'll be sub-70 in a flash!

Default Adding my Mantra !!!

I remembered sending this to Helen, but have decided to also put it in my own Diary, so at least it's in my face whenever I log in...

One thing I have done to help myself keep to the program, is to actually write down my reasons for wanting to complete it, and if I feel like straying, then I just read my reasons all over again... it's become my mantra !
If it helps, here's what I wrote to myself:

WHY I WANT & NEED TO STICK TO THE COHEN PROGRAM 100% FROM MONDAY 11th AUGUST:

1. I have paid for a program, so I need to make it worthwhile

2. I want to lose 20 kg in 18 weeks, so I NEED to stick to it to do this

3. I want to be able to conceive safely in December, so I NEED to be at my goal weight by the start of December, in order to finish the re-feeding program by Christmas

4. It makes me feel better – no bloating, no lethargy, no stomach pain, no gas, lots more energy, better night sleeps, less mood swings

5. I WANT to be able to wear a nice dress at Christmas & New Year

6. I WANT to feel sexy again

7. I WANT to feel like I have succeeded at finishing this !!

8. Because it is IMPORTANT

9. Because no food or drink is AS IMPORTANT as the end goal

10. Because I WANT TO DO IT FOR ME

Am nearly at the end of week 3 on the plan. Some days are 'easy' and others I am still struggling. I'm feeling famished today, and there is a container with 9 choc chip muffins inside which has been calling out to me for the past 3 hours. I am ignoring the little sweet voices, but I know they're there... like a little jack-hammer, they just keep tap tap tapping away... but happily I am 'winning' this time !
I had a sneaky weigh in this morning too, and have dropped another 1.5kg; so am really looking forward to Monday now... I know we're not supposed to weigh weekly (or even daily - not that I do), but if it's inspiring; then why not?
Anyway, just wanted to say that my cup of peppermint tea is so much better than my husband's bucket of hot milo and his steaming choc chip muffin. I think my after dinner treat sounds, smells, and even tastes better ! How's that?

Hi Ruby, Love your mantra!!!!! Your doing really well resisting temptation. The first few weeks I still felt hungry and just on the odd occasion these days and now I have learnt from the forum that it sometimes means a good drop on the scales to come. Hows that for motivation!!!!!

Have a great sunday
