Lightbulb Reward/Motivation Idea, Especially for the Ladies!

I got a money tin today from Kmart and for every deviation free week I have, I am going to put $30 dollars in the tin for my 'Goal Weight Shopping Spree'.

I figure I am saving at least $100 dollars a week on food, wine and going out to eat anyway, so $30 is conservative. I will also be chucking spare change in there every once in a while too. That way, when I get to the end (which will hopefully be 6-8 months) I should have about $750 dollars to use for a shopping spree!!

Just thought I would share and maybe someone else will think this is a good idea for them

That is a great idea Jenna, but maybe you need to put some aside for mini goals instead/as well? You are going to change clothing sieze sufficiently that you will need some new clothes along the way. I bought heaps on eBay, others have been to Vinnies, so maybe you could budget $50 every 10 kgs to pick up a few bits and pieces along the way. I bought great jeans and trousers on eBay for $5-10 a pair, and I love them! They dont even look 2nd hand.

OR You could treat yourself to a massage/facial/pedicure etc each 10kgs.

Reward yourself along the way, you deserve it!

Jen

i think that this is a great idea too - but I have also been treating myself to mini-rewards along the way. I celebrated my first 4 weeks (no-deviations) with a nice new pair of shoes - best thing is is that they will fit no matter what!!!

DIFM - Thanks, Luv! Figured we might as well make good use of that $$ we used to spend on junk!

Jen - Great idea, about rewarding along the way too! I fully plan on rewarding myself as much as I can get away with!! I have clothes that will fit me all the way down to 90 kilos...after that I will have to pick up some basics and I will definitely be looking to eBay and op shops for that stuff. I'm already in need of a new bra!!! I have lost well over 20cm's just in my bust alone already as I was falling out the bottom of the bra - in only 2 weeks, but I am going to wait until 4 weeks to get one.

Hi Jenna,

I have been doing the same thing except mine is $20 per kilo. It is starting to add up quite nicely!!!

Soon to be - Your scaring me! Oh my lovely shoes! I hope they still fit at the end of all this. Not a huge sacrifice for a thinner me, but I would mourn some of my favs!

Jenna - 20cm in the bust already?? oh how I wish I could say the same! I've not lost one cm there yet, which unfortunately is what I thought would happen, but can't help hoping!

I've also decided that a massage/facial pack thingo will be my treat at 10kgs lost, which is about a third of the way, meaning I'll get to do it 3 times!

Rach - That is a great idea, about 20 dollars/kilo! Hmmm...that might even be better - as that adds up to 960 for me.

Guess I owe myself 120 already!!

Soon To Be - That's right about the shoes! My sneaker fell off while trying to get into the clinic's door yesterday! And that's only after 6 kilos down!

I think the money tin idea is fantastic too, nothing like buying a whole heap of clothes and goodies all at once to reward yourself!!

I don't like to keep facials, massages etc as weightloss goals though - I like to get these whenever I have a spare bit of cash or time because I feel like I am worth it now! That is - whether I am 5kg's lighter or 10kg's heavier. As a working mother I have put myself last for so many years (one of the many reasons I am where I am today!) and a manicure or pedicure every so often is already earnt in my opinion....buying new clothes is another thing altogether - I think we need to be working our butt's off to earn those and this is where I think the money tin would be fantastic. Also things like products and make-up (aside from the essentials) I like to keep as treats too.

Last year a group of us run a biggest loser competition where we put in $100 each when we started and who ever lost the largest % in the end got prize poole to do whatever they wanted with - there was 8 of us and my mother won $800 in the end. She lives on a property so you'd never guess what she brought... WATER!! (their tanks were really low). Anyways it was really important to her and she just went to vinnies for her clothes.

My 'treat' is a trip to New York in October and I am saving all my pennies to go shopping then... in-between I am still getting my facials & massages.

Default reward type thing

hey,

a friend of mine who needed to lose alot of weight (bout 60kgs) used a charm bracelet for a reward. when she started she bought herself a plain bracelet and for every 5kgs she lost she bought a charm. by the end she had a beautiful bracelet she could look at and wear as a reminder of what she did.

Hi all

My idea was the same as cobie_lee's friend, I am buying myself a new pandora bracelet and am going to add to it with every 4kg I lose this is my mini goal gift to me, Great idea with the money tin too, I might even start that up with a smaller amount for when I hit goal.

Great ideas for rewarding, I love the pandora bracelets, I may need to adopt that reward for myself!
I have scheduled my first goal reward of a spray tan - I haven't had one in years, and seeing as my 4 week weigh in is right before Xmas when I catch up with family, I thought looking all summery would be great (I know I have some new sundresses under the tree!!!!)

So many good ideas for rewards.
I too might need to steal the idea of a pandora bracelet. I am getting one for xmas with two charms (that can be for the 10kg I have already lost). 5kg lose is a great excuse to buy an extra charm!
