Default Breakfast-trouble eating it?

Breakfast I mean, other than breakfast I have been going great.

Breakfast just makes me feel sick, full stop. Before Cohens I was just a grab a slice of toast and go sorta gal, very simple and easy. Now that I have to have vegetables with breakfast I am struggeling quite allot. Its got to the point now where I am dry reaching when I am force feeding myself breakfast and feeling incredibly sick all day because of it.
Its not that I dont like the vegetables, its that they really dont agree with me first thing in the morning.
I have tried almost every suggestion in the breakfast thread, and different combinations of vegetables and Yoghurt makes me sick. I even tried switching meals and it didnt work. Im at my wits end and am even wondering how much longer I could do this because Im so unhappy with it.
So today *gulp* I skipped the vegetables, I know its a deviation but you have to understand that I just cannot do it anymore and needed to know if it was the vegetables that were making me sick all day long. Well today I feel fantastic, and healthier than I ever have. Everything else is 100% and Im even enjoying my lunch and dinner now.

Im at a total loss with my breakfast 'demon'.
Someone please help!!

Hi Brooke, i understand where you are coming from, i also LOVE veggies but have struggled to eat them early in the day. For now, i am having a different breakfast, cottage cheese with 2 crackers and i add cucumber and onoin but might prefer not too! Other new idea for me (i also cant do yogurt) is a boiled egg with crackers tomato and lettuce.

Anyway, what protein serve do you have and what veggies have you tried? Are they raw veg like salad or cooked veg like mushroom, tomato, onion? Not sure but this may help someone to offer advice. And did you talk to a clinic about it? Pandora

Its 1 egg and Vege.
or cheese and vege

Ive tried having a salad but that was really bad. Ive tried melting the cheese on the vege (which usually is YUM) but not for brekky.

My clinic told me to continue skipping the veg until we work something else out. Im going to keep experimenting. I just hope I find something I like before I crack.

Hi Brooke
I know where you are coming from - breakfast has been my challenge as well and I can't do yoghurt either. I'm now a creature of habit and alternate between these 3 recipes and eat cheese 3 times a week because its my favourite.

1. Rice cake topped with tomato, onion, (sometimes mushrooms) capsicum and cheese allowance grilled - just like a pizza!

2. lightly pan fry onion, mushroom, tomato (sometimes grated zuchinni) 1 egg, 1/2 shell full of water and seasoning whisked - pour over and place a saucepan lid on the pan over a low heat and when almost cooked throw on spinich or chives repalce lid and turn of the heat and let it sit for a minute - this makes it really light and fluffy

3. soak a rice cake in seasoned egg (need to do this for awhile to absorb) - pan fry with mushroom, onion and tomato - almost like French Toast!!

Good luck with it - hope you find something that you can live with

Brooke, I sometimes make a fluffy omelette. It might help disguise the vegetables. Beat an egg white and half an egg shell of water until it's thick. Add the yolk and keep beating. Prepare your vegetable filling, maybe chop half a tomato and add mushroom or capsicum to make up to the full allowance. Pour the egg into a pre-heated frying pan, spread the vegetables on top (you might like to cook them to soften first) and cook until the underside is nicely browned. Don't cook until the top looks done, it should taste cooked before that.

Could the time you are having brekkie be affecting things?? I know that I have real trouble eating right when I wake up - it makes me feel quite ill... which probably has something to do with the fact that i never had brekkie before I started this program...

So, although, having brekkie a bit later will throw all your meals a bit later, it might be worth it if it allows you to eat your due allowance on the veggies and not feel ill the whole day?

Ive tried omletts, and switched fillings but they all had the same effect.

Ive tried that. I had brekky so late one day that I was eating dinner and it was nearly 9.

I might try one of the yoghurt smoothies that are in the recipe book and see how it goes.

Hi Brooke,
Have you tried having egg (boiled, poached or fried) with lettuce?
Having the lettuce is a lighter option than the other vegies.

Default Get Up and Go!

Hi Brooke

Describing yourself as a 'grab breakfast and go' type of person may mean that having to decide on what to eat, then prepare it, may be one of your obstacles at breakfast time.

I notice that the www.lifestyleclinic.com.au website has been upgraded recently, is now www.cohens.com.au, and that the recipe section has not yet been loaded.

There used to be a good recipe for muffins, perhaps your consultant has a copy of this recipe, and this may be a good breakfast compromise for you.

If I remember correctly, this was either an egg, crispbread & vegetable muffin or a cheese, crispbread & vegetable muffin recipe

Essentially, it was to mix crumbled crispbread, the egg / cheese & vegetable choice together and bake each serve in a muffin tin.

The muffins are then 'grab it and go' food which may be more in your line. A couple of bites and that's breakfast done!

For my taste, I would curry the egg muffin, or 'pizza' the cheese muffin (oregano or basil dried herbs, plenty of black pepper)

From the amount of weight you have to lose, you are probably on the 'two fruit' program, so yoghurt and fruit (eg kiwi, or stewed apple, with maybe powdered ginger or a shake of nutmeg to liven it up, or wizzed up with mango) as breakfast would leave you without a fruit snack during the day

So maybe the muffin is worth a try, and it can be prepared the evening before when you cook your dinner so no preparation in the morning

Hope this helps

Kristine

Hi Brooke,

I too feel sick after having yoghurt sometimes. I'm fine with the cheese and vegies though. I am going to try a mango smoothie today for lunch to see how that goes, my clinic gave it to me yesterday.

Its just Yoghurt, mango, 125-250ml sprite zero, and ice cubes. Whiz it up and then put in freezer for about 30 mins.

It looks good.

I think this is the recipe.

Cohens Breakfast Muffins
I made these because I have to rush in the morning..so I make them the night before. Cover them with cling film and then nuke them in he morning.
2 crispbread

veg allowance diced finely
1 egg, beaten

Pulverise crisp bread until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. In a bowl place diced veg and add beaten egg. Add crispbread to bowl and mix until all ingredients are thoroughly combined. Take a mini muffin tin and spray with spray oil. Spoon mix in.
Cook at about 180 for 15 mins. Leave to cool in pan and then they slip right out after about 5-10 mins.

Makes 8 mini muffins.

Hi Brooke,
I like muffins for breaky, because they are quick to eat and I can prepare them the night before. Vee's receipe is good or sometimes I use an egg, 2 pulverized saladas, and 1/2 - 1 stewed apple (dedpending on if I want 1/2 an apple latter in the day). This quantity makes 2 good sized muffins and are sooo yummy. I usually eat some cold cucumber and sliced tomato to the value of my allowance first then eat the muffins with a lovely cup of green tea- it is my little treat for the day!!!

I sometimes also have yoghurt, but cannot stomach it on its own, so add a good teaspoon of sweetner and it tastes like vanilla yoghurt.

I hope you can overcome your morning hurdle.

hey gizzmo, those stats sound very similar to mine for the first month...and you have a similar amount to lose as i did...

i also never used to eat breakfast, and for gods sake, i couldnt imagine eating veg for breakkie...but i persisted and got used to it...and now i always have a protein breakkie...

it wont work as fast if you dont follow the rules mate...just persist and you will get there...

Those stats are great Gizmo...around 70% of people loose between 7 - 10 kilos so your loss is normal..only a small percentage make over 10 kilos I think something like 10% and the other 20% less than 7 kg

As for breakfast as long as you are following the 5 hour rule I can't see why you cant change your eating times eg: lunch at 11, dinner at 4, breakfast at 9pm? or something similar

Its not a good idea to eat fruit and crackers as your first meal Gizzmo ... starts the insulin factory early.

Could you do some of the breakfast muffins in the recipe thread?? they r more like a snack food than a breakfast.

As for the loss I did 5.3 in my first month and only a little over 3 every month after so I think your results are excellent LOL.

Connie

Gizzmo that loss is great and look you are under the 100Kg mark!! I remember I was so excited when I got under the 100kg (I did this before cohens).

I know I sound like Im from Sesame Street but Breakfast is so important. It kicks your body into gear for the day. I have had a lot of overwieght friends talk to me about their weight concerns lately and the most common thread is no breakfast.

As Connie said try the breakfast muffins you can make them with cheese or egg. They are easy to carry and you can make them in advance. Or try some cheese on a cracker with mushies tomato and onion?

Good luck mate and be proud of that loss. I was the same in the first month and now couldnt be happier. The thing you notice with cohens is that you are consistently lower not up and down (unless you weigh yourself 3 times a day like I do then you are up with water etc. I dont recommend doing this)

good Luck
