Default Loss of muscle weight concern.

Are there any consultants on here? I am concerned and have logged this on the "contact us" page but it is the weekend and would like to know if anyone shared any similar experiances and their outcome. Perhaps there is supposed to be some muscle loss in addition to fat loss??

I weighed in at Day 10 and am a little concerned about the type of weight loss I have recorded, should I be?
Although I have shown a loss of 7.7KG, of this 5.3KG was muscle mass, 0.2KG was Bone Mass. My fat % dropped by 0.5%.
Rod's records
Start Cohen 31-5-2012
Weigh in 9/06/2012
Weight Kg 132.8 /125.1 = 7.7Kg
Body Fat % 41.0 /40.5 = -0.9%
Visceral Fat Kg 24+ /23+ = 1
Bone Mass Kg 3.8 /3.6 = 0.2Kg
Muscle Mass Kg 74.5 /69.2 = 5.3Kg

I have a $200 Tanita set of scales that gives me this information.
I will await your reply.
Regards

Sorry, OR, not a consultant, but my understanding is that he vast majority of weight loss that occurs in the first 1-2 weeks is purely fluid loss, and not a great percentage of fat......

I know that doesn't mean anything to you as your concerns seem not to be for fluid rather muscle mass.

If you really want a consultants reply, my advice to you would be to pose this question on the Cohen's support forum on this website, http://www.cohens.com.au/forum/

It is run by the West Australian clinic.....head office in Australia, not sure they'll reply on the weekend either, but it'd be worth giving a go. They are all consultants that run it. Of course anyone has the right to register, but admin etc is all from the office......

On here though, there are many many experts.........there would also be lots in health care.....medico's etc, so they might jump in if they have some more info too!!!???

Anyway, good luck, your first 10 days loss is very impressive if that counts for anything!!!

I would not be too concerned - not an expert but when I used to be weighed on these in a gym, they could differ greatly depending on how much water I had drunk (and therefore how hydrated I was) etc.

I have been told that the only way to truely measure % body fat etc is with extremely specialised and expensive equipment.

For myself, I have scales that measure body fat. It would vary widely one day to the next even though my weight was the same (or lower when I was losing). So I just focussed on the number on the scale that measured kilos.

I have googled accuracy and found the following:

These formulas just predict your body fat. Unfortunately there is no one formula that accurately predicts body fat for the whole population. Differences in age, gender, ethnicity, body size, and fitness level all have a significant affect on the results.

Most scales can account for some of the basic differences such as age and gender, but take the actual body fat percentage they give you with a pinch of salt. What does this all mean for you?

Well, whether body fat scales measure your "true" body fat percentage or not doesn't matter! As long as they can accurately monitor changes in your body composition over time, that's all you need.

Your body position, the amount of water in your body, your food intake, skin temperature and recent physical activity can all adversely affect the results of body fat scales

I hope that it helps.

That is great - stress can impact your weight loss!

By the way - congrats on the great losses so far - 7.7kg is fabulous.
