Ladies - A Little Discretion, Please ...
Ladies, I would like to ask you all to please remember that this is a public forum - in fact, an international forum, and as a woman myself I would ask you all to consider that this forum is open to both men and women, and also to children. There has been a recent increase both directly and by the use of 'cute' terms, to menstrual cycles and to periods. While this is an important part of our bodies and of our health, this is a weight loss forum and not a gynaecological chat room. I appreciate that times have changed and that there are few taboos nowadays, but there are still good manners. Menstruation is natural, but so is diarrhoea, and I must admit I get a bit of a shock when I am happily readily a diary post and whammo! suddenly I am reading very personal stuff which frankly, I find embarrassing and sometimes, quite offensive. The other weight loss forum which I used to participate in also suddenly turned into an endless discussion regarding periods. Some posts are quite lurid and unnecessarily detailed. Perhaps there could be a separate thread or even section regarding menstruation and other gynaecological matters. I am sure it is fascinating both privately and publicly to many people but seriously, it is not fascinating to me. I would appreciate some comments and feedback on this. Regards Kristine |

Re: Ladies - A Little Discretion, Please ...
You have a valid point but I'm a male and it doesn't embarrass me and if it did I wouldn't read it. If a person has a problem and needs some help - well the only way is to ask. Isn’t that what a forum is about – if I was a mechanic and had a problem with a motor I would post to the forum to see who else was having a problem and try to get an answer to my problem from others who have had a similar problem. But I don’t have to read all the posts about every fault if I choose not to. I have reread the posts and none of the posts are crude or vulgar in any way or depraved. Menstruation or a females period is after all normal thing and whilst children are reading the forum if a parent is being responsible and doing their parental duties as a good parent does they should sit the child down and explain it. Whilst it’s not a topic that one discusses at the pub with his mates – it is still part of % 50 of the world’s population, is an essential ingredient for the continuation of the planet and does affect %100 of the world’s population ad some time in their life. As a husband for twenty five years I can speak with authority!! There is a volume of information on the internet that is available to all children and how else will they ever know and respect others if they don't know what it is they are respecting. If you personally find it offensive don’t go there just as you would for any activity that you don’t agree with. I think it is more important for someone with a problem and no other avenue of support to ask the question and let their peers decide if it needs to be answered. Each to their own and if the standard is such and you are not happy and if need be let the moderator decide. I don’t think any topic should be hidden in the cupboard out of reach, and spoken about in whispers and cryptic conversations – it certainly happen that way once in our society and created many unhappy situations for lots of young mothers and fathers who if menstruation and fertility cycles had have been explained and spoken about they may have had a happier life. Just my view on an age old topic! Andy

Re: Ladies - A Little Discretion, Please ...
Hi I think that it is good that people can ask what they need to there is different things happening to every one and this is the place that every one is going through the same thing. It feels like i know a few people on here and if it is the only place we can ask if some one is having the same things happen.
It does not embarrass me eiher i have written a few things the same and it embarrases me writing it but if you need help why not. I say any one that has a problem go for it cause we are all here to help each other and we are doing the same diet and we cant meet and talk so this is the way we need to do it to get it off our chest and help our journey. Re: Ladies - A Little Discretion, Please ...
Hi there,
I believe that two recent topics referring to periods are clearly titled - there's certainly no confusion about what the thread is discussing. Therefore I believe readers make the choice about whether or not to open the topic - if one finds the title offensive, its simply a matter of not opening it. In regards to diaries, thats exactly what it is - a diary, a personal account of one's journey on Cohens. I can understand being offended if people are being crude but from what I have read, this is not the case on this forum. Perhaps it would be a good idea to have a separate section for "personal" issues, for which we are confronted with on this plan. Enjoy your day Rowan

Doesn't bother me. Though I made it a personal goal to deliberately inform everyone of my bowel movements everyday as a form of protest

Re: Ladies - A Little Discretion, Please ...
Well, FWIW here's my thoughts...
Firstly, I think periods are a serious topical discussion point with respect to women on Cohens. This programme DOES affect our cycles, and I don't see any problem discussing it, so long as it's within reason, and preferably within a thread marked as such. Must admit, I don't like being pounced on with too much information, especially in a thread about something totally different. I can see what Kristine's talking about, I don't particularly like "non-medical terminology" as such, and the use of colloquialisms. The other thing to remember is that this IS an open forum. Your friends, work colleagues and partners (even EX-partners) could well be reading this. My humble suggestion is, don't write anything you don't want them to know about. And, above all, please, keep it clean. asy

Re: Ladies - A Little Discretion, Please ...
I agree with the topic of periods we all have them well the women anyway and if someone is having a problem with them or with other things then we need to ask.
With the internet part of Cohen's we don't get alot of support so we have to go somewhere. If saying period or menstration is offending then like on the other Forum I am on also we call it TOM (time of the month) sorry if there is any fells's out there named Tom. From what I understand about this program it was started for women with furtilty problems. I have read on here and the other site that woman who have not been regular or not had TOM for years after being on this diet have started back up again. They are child bearing age have had problems and are mostly thrilled to have it start again. So yes there is a thread on here about it don't go there if it is offending to you. Athough I don't want full details on that and a few other things but sometimes to get a answer you have to go into a little detail. Pudge |

Re: Ladies - A Little Discretion, Please ...
Kristine
I opened a topic called "menstural cycle", and i have noticed Irn started a topic "periods". As far as im concered this is a normal part of life, and the topic clearly states what it all is about. I can not see why this should effect or embarass you. If you dont like the topic then why read it? This forum is to help people, with problems and support they need Cherie

I have written in my diary about my lack of a period... to me, I feel like my diary is my place to vent... and it is other people choice as to whether they read my dairy or not. I am sorry if my diary was one of the ones that you read and if you were offended by anything written on there.. I am not intentionally trying to offend people... but, I feel like the only support I have received thus far has been from the wonderful people on this forum. I am sure there are others out there in the same situation and don't mean to offend anyone. Lisa |

Re: Ladies - A Little Discretion, Please ...
I find the typing out of your feelings part of power of this forum.
Case in Point: My failure with refeed took a lot of courage to write about because I thought I had let the forum down and it may turn people off Cohens, but the reality is I didn’t want to admit to myself, my own disappointment. So therefore no subject should be taboo. Although each subject needs to be treated with taste and tact. Baloo challenges with constipation are well know and whilst not and issue for me could be very insightful to others. So I think it is ok but with tact and in a professional vein, not as a joke and that demeans the serious nature. Peter |

Hi BBF
Go to my diary for all the story. Some bad luck, mental challenges let me down. But I am back on the wagon and have a new approach based on what I have learnt. Peter |

Re: Ladies - A Little Discretion, Please ...
Kristine,
I'm sorry, but I can't believe that anyone, male or female could be offended by a post on menstruation. This is a weight loss forum, and a weight loss program formulated by a fertility expert. This is naturally going to affect many women in regards to their cycles. Many are experiencing the return of theirs after many years of not having one. Of course there are going to be questions regarding this and how others are being affected. As for lurid and unecessarily detailed. I'm struggling to see where there is any. My dictionary meaning of the term 'LURID' is as follows : very vivid in color, esp. so as to create an unpleasantly harsh or unnatural effect : lurid food colorings | a pair of lurid shorts. • (of a description) presented in vividly shocking or sensational terms, esp. giving explicit details of crimes or sexual matters. This forum is here to help people in every way in regards to their bodies. And I think everyone should be encouraged to post ANY topic that they are needing advice on. As for any child reading this forum, then there has to be some form of parental control and a reason behind why the child would be reading a forum on weight loss. If there are any children on the Cohens program, then this is a fantastic place for them to learn about life. And learn and ask some things that maybe they are too embarrassed to ask their parents about. No topic is off limits in my opinion. Regards MiniMe |

Re: Ladies - A Little Discretion, Please ...
Hi Chezza
I had really bad menstrual problems while being seriously overweight. I'd only get them twice a year, but it did come back with a vengeance. When it was TTOTM I would bleed heavily for 12 weeks straight. I got to the point where I became severely anaemic and would drift in and out of consciousness on several occassions. I'd been in and out of doctors and specialist for years and no one was able to diagnose me, so I put up with it for many years. In May this year I had septicaemia which landed me in hospital in a critical condition, nearly died. Finally, I started Cohens I've lost 25kg and my periods have returned back to normal and I feel flippin GREAT. Now, when my periods do arrive.... I'm celebrating how light they are. So your topic on periods is an excellent one because Cohens has helped my menstrual cycle return to normal. For those who have been through extreme cases of menorrhagia... take heart that Cohens is a great treatment for obviously losing weight, but also for irregular menstrual cycles. Quote:
