Plateau before refeed
I know that this is a topic that gets a lot of mention, and I think I've read nearly all the information on here about it, but....I'm a bit stuck and would love some insight or advice please. The past 10 days my weight has not budged at all, and I'm exactly the same weight. I am near the end, my back is quite sore, my tummy seems to have phantom pains, I have terrible black circles under my eyes and yes I am sure that I am doing everything 100% to the book. I'm stuck on 65, and have a blood test coming up on monday. I was going to order refeed with those bloods, as according to my plan I should have been on or very near to 63kg. However I'm not, and I am struggling to see why. I have just done a preliminary measure, and it seems that my measurements have not changed either. I know that you dont lose each week, but my measurements have also not altered this time. I have had this previously a few times for up to 11 days, but this coincided with a full days snow skiing, which is most likely due to the muscle building etc. During this time the weight didnt budge, yet the measurements did..... So here are my questions. Would going for a short walk each day help? Should I stop eating the crackers even though I really look forward to them? Should I up my water intake from around 3 litres to 4? I have read that swapping about my meals may make a difference. I am a yoghurt fan and have tried the egg and veg option for brekky this week instead. Is it the act of changing the timing of meal one (lightest meal) that would make the most difference. I dont think I could handle meat for brekky, so would swapping lunch and tea meals around seriously make a difference? Or do I need to simply tell my brain to be quiet and wait it out, it takes as long as it takes. However if I dont order refeed on these bloods on Monday, it is another 4 weeks before I'm due for the next bloods, and assuming that my body sorts itself out, waiting another 4 weeks before ordering refeed is most likely going to be too long.... I look forward to your thoughts, hope you're having a fabulous day everyone Wendy xx |

Re: Plateau before refeed
Hey Wendy
You do not have to wait for blood tests to order your refeed so you can still do blood test on Monday, then order your refeed as soon as results come thru or a week later down the track!! Don't do what happened to me and was hanging out for refeed I was grumpy, hungry couldn't think straight! Is 63kg inside your weight guideline as some people tend to still lose on refeed (I have only just finished refeed on Thurs and lost whilst doing it) Keep eating your crackers and you could try the walk but I think this close to refeed it might just make you even more hungry but you can definately start once on refeed! I also found that I needed to pee all the time and apparently that is because there is not much left to wash out so water tends to go straight thru you, maybe something else to watch out for with refeed so close! I know there are plenty of others here that have hit the plateau but eventually things start moving again and who knows tonight could be the night!! Hope I haven't bored you too much and have given you a little bit of help! Hang in there you are so close and good work!! Cheers Melissa

Re: Plateau before refeed
You might want to back off all strenuous activities as well as now that the body fat is getting down to near zero, the body may start to cannibalize muscle tissue. When that happens, you body goes into starvation mode and anything you eat the body tries to store as fat while your muscles cannibalize themselves. Not good. Also, the guidelines are just that, guidelines. 100% of the people never fit into the mold. There are always those few who fall outside the norms. You may be one of them. Talk to you consultants, see how they feel. Order refeed after your bloods and when it gets too much, start refeed if the consultants think it's a good idea.

Re: Plateau before refeed
Thank you so much melissa and sms, I had no idea about that, I honestly thought you had to order it with a blood test!! This changes everything, so I will have the test tomorrow and finally when things start moving again I will order refeed then. Lets hope that happends quickly.
SMS, thanks for the thoughts on exercise too, but I'm not skiing days as the snow is melting away, but I think maybe I'll give a walk a miss too, as I dont want to end up even hungrier....Thanks Melissa for the idea of walking once refeed starts, thats an excellent idea!! I'm not deathly hungry yet like it seems most people end up.... but I am a bit hungry though and am always thinking of something extra it seems....mind you having 5 people to feed, means I'm surrounded with yummy things a lot! Thanks for the advic Wendy |

Re: Plateau before refeed
i was supposed to get to 69k according to the clinic, according to the tables on inty i should be between 60 and 67 or seomething so i gave myself a target of 65 i got stuck at 65.7 for a long time i went on refeed because of time constraints and i ended refeed at 63.8 that was 6 weeks ago since then i have been as low as 61.2 and as high as 64.3k. if i were you i would do the refeed.

Re: Plateau before refeed
Wow Carrianne thats amazing!
Well I did the bloods and after chatting at the clinic, and with my consultants advice, we have decided to order refeed. Thats on the theory that I have till Nov 9 to start and by then surely my body has sorted itself out and started losing again, and if not, then maybe my body needs refeed...? As for my plateau, it lasted 11 days, then yesterday (on my birthday) I had a little movement on the scales, then again this morning by 100g. So lets hope that the weightloss continues, the cms 'start' shifting and that my body really kicks into gear again. I will hold off on starting it obvioulsy, but at least its there once I 'need' it etc Have a fab day everyone xx |
