Default Adding Tickers To Your Signature.

OK, here's a post about how to add a ticker to your signature.

Koh here> For those wanting an actual "step-by-step" from go to whoa, please see post #3 of this thread written by SMS (SundayMorningStaple). It is very complete, and has a super-high success rate !! Onya, SMS
/Koh>

Firstly, go to the ticker site: CLICK HERE FOR LINK.

PAGE 1:

Click on the 'weight loss' bit, then click 'NEXT'.

PAGE 2:

Now fill in the boxes. Choose KG or LB's, Then choose weight change, or weight.

If you choose weight change, the ticker will go from the amount of weight you have to lose, to Zero. Choosing weight will make your ticker go from the start weight to the end weight. It's a personal preference. I prefer the weight change because I think it is easier to understand and makes it easier to compare yours to others who are on the same journey.

PAGE 3:

Now choose a ruler.
This is the background picture for your ticker.
Mine's a pencil, but you can scroll through the pages (numbered in the bottom left corner of the picture) and see which you prefer.

PAGE 4:

Now choose a slider.
This is the bit that slides along your ticker as you lose weight.
Mine's a tulip (just so you know which bit is which), you can choose whichever reflects your likes or personality best. Again, there are a few pages to choose from.

PAGE 5:

This will show you an example of how your ticker will look in your signature.
If you aren't happy, click on the 'BACK' button and choose a different ruler or slider (or both!).

IF YOU ARE HAPPY WITH IT, highlight the code in the BB CODE Box (I've framed the box in green so you can see which it is).

Now go to your USERCP section of this site. (Click on USERCP, in the top left section of this, or any, screen. I suggest you open this in a different window to where your ticker code is just in case you lose the clipboard).

Then, scroll down till you get to the "Edit Signature" in the left menu. Click on this. It will open a new screen with an Edit box.

There's a big box there that says EDIT SIGNATURE. Put your cursor in this box (if it isn't already). now click <CTRL> + V. That means, click the Control button (it has Ctrl written on it) and the V button on the keyboard at once) This will paste the ticker code into your signature.

You can also write other things in your signature, but, please, for the sake of everyone reading and loading these pages, please adhere to the SIGNATURE RULES, which say that you may have THREE lines of text (normal size) and two blank lines in your signature, and that’s IT. Don't forget, it shows up on EVERY post you write, and over long signatures simply pad the pages out, and mean we have to load many more pages to read the same stuff...

You can preview it as many times as you need to, until you are happy. Once you are happy with it, click on "SAVE SIGNATURE".

This will place this new signature into EACH post you've ever done, or ever will do (until you alter your signature).

Some Signature information:
Signatures are dynamic, they do not stay with the posts made at the time they were there. If you change your sig, it'll change on ALL posts. This means, if you just come into a room and yell 'Ticker change' and that's IT, next time you change your signature, this information will be moot. You (and anyone else) won't be able to track your changes because this information will be gone soon.
Also, if you want to TEST your signature, there is NO NEED to make a post saying "testing signature", simply find ANY old post of yours and reload it, the signature will be there. Promise.

Please note, only ONE ticker per person is allowed, any more and you'll be asked to remove them. It just takes too much space for people to have multiples, sorry.

Anyway, that's about it. Hope it helps.

If you're really having trouble, PM me your ticker url and password, and I'll fix it for you and upload it into your profile, no worries.

IF you would prefer, you can email: admin at newyouforum dot com

Or alternately post a message in this thread listing your ticker url (the address out on the website where you changed your ticker) and one of the admins can fix it for you.

Exclamation Line by line instructions to create or update tickers

1 - First of all Go here: http://www.tickerfactory.com/weight-loss

2 - Click "Create Your Own Ticker" or "Create a New Ticker" if you have already tried and have a password/pin already.

3 - On the next page "Welcome to TickerFactory.com" scroll down to the section entitled "Weight Loss/Fitness"

4 - Click the link "Weight Loss"

5 - On the next page Select your ticker Ruler by clicking on the circle to the left of the ruler.

6 - Go to the bottom right of the page and click "Next"

7 - On the new page "Select your Ticker Slider" again by clicking on the circle to the left of the slider image you want.

8 - Go to the bottom right of the page and click "Next"

9 - On the new page "Configure your Weight Tracker Ticker:"

10 - Under Setup create a password/pin by typing it into the box provided

11 - Leave the Privacy section at the default "Public Data"

12 - Use either the "Weight" or "Weight Change" ticked under the "Track" heading.

Koh here - for those who are wanting the best support, give us all the data (i.e. choose "weight" - and add the BMI option too) and we will be able to watch and encourage as you near and pass each goal.

But, for those who DON'T wish to share their weight, choose "weight-change" as it really does keep us "in the dark" about your weight, until you feel ready to share. You will have to tell us as you near each goal, as we won't know....

13 - Weight Measurements change to Kilograms.

14 - Next type in your target weight (usually somewhere around Cohen's range)

15 - Then type in your Starting Weight

16 - Now type in your Current Weight

17 - Then type in the Current Weight Date (today's date? or the date of the weigh-in)

18 - You can leave the fields under the "Waist Measurements" blank

19 - Under the heading of Body Mass Index (BMI) change the "Height Units" from "English" to "Metric/S.I."

20 - Now type in your height in the box provided. If you are 1.65 m tall put 1 in the "m" box and 65 in the "cm" box.

21 - At the bottom right of the page now click "Next"

22 - At the new page you will see the following "Done! Your Ticker:" and directly below it you will see your new ticker.

23 - Leave the "Size Option" and "Background Option" as "Large" & "Light"

24 - Now scroll down the page (DO NOT click on the buttons "BACK" & CONFIGURE ANOTHER TICKER") to the section directly below the buttons "Cut and past code for most boards and web pages:"

25 - There you will see two boxes with code in them. One is entitled "bbCode:" In this box copy ALL the code in the box and then paste it into the Signature box located in your "User CP" module.

26 - The code should look something like this:

Code:
[url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/wqKyJh6/]
[img]http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/wqKyJh6/weight.png[/img ]
[/url ]
without the spaces in [/img ] & [/url ]

You need to ensure that all the tags are at the beginning and end and both lines are copied. I suggest opening Notepad and pasting it there first to ensure that you have something that looks similar (the code 'wqKyJh6' will be the only thing that is different from my example).

27 - Now return to the New You Site and open your "User CP" which can be found at the top right of the page just below the colourful logo at the top of the page.

28 - Once on the "User CP" page scroll down the left side menu to the section entitled "Settings & Options"

29 - Click on the "Edit Signature" link. Now copy and paste the 'code' you copied and pasted into Notepad into the "Edit Signature" Box. Once this has been done and it appears like the example noted in line 26, then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Preview Signature" if the preview is okay then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Save Signature".

You are done. Congratulations!

When you want to update your ticker do the following.

1 - Click on your signature. This will open the TickerFactory.com site to your ticker data page.
You should see your ticker and a weight chart (the chart will only show up after the 1st update).

2 - If your PIN: box is already filled in with ****** just click on the "edit/Update Weight Data" tourquoise box directly below your PIN.

3 - This will open up the weight data page. Re-enter your password in the "Password/Pin:" box

4 - Go down to the "Weight Measurements" section and change "Your Current Weight" to the new weight.

5 - Change the "Weight Date" to the new date (be sure you enter your dates in the US fashion with the month leading the date.

6 - Go to the bottom of the page and click "next". This will take you to a new page showing the updated ticker. (if it does not - don't fret! Just hit your refresh button in your browser menu to refresh the page).

7 - Return to the New You page and click refresh and you should see your updated ticker.

sms

Koh again - one extra point to note is that every post made BEFORE your signature was created will NOT show your ticker. Every post made after your ticker was added will show your ticker.

Hi Lou,

It seems you've missed installing the [url .........url] data. All you have is the Image (that's why you are seeing your ticker in the post - but it is not complete, thus is not working).

I could fix it, but I don't know if you have chosen "weight" or "weight-change" - so thought I'd turn it back to you.

Are you using SMS's data when setting it up?

http://newyouforum.com/forum/showpos...45&postcount=3

Step 26 shows what it SHOULD look like (you only have the section from [img to /img])

Hello Sundaymorningstaple. Thank you for your detailed explanation of how to add the ticker. Without your help I would not have succeeded. Now I just hope it will work as this is my first posting.
I thought the ticker would also show 'starting' weight but apparently it doesn't.

have a great day all

Hi Simonja,

I believe you can chose between "Weight" and "Weight-loss". I suspect you might have chosen "Weight-loss".

Go back and see line 12 of my instructions. You apparently ticked 'weight-change' and not "weight" You can change it if you'd like though.

Hi all,

I wanted to add a thought re Asy's comment in one of the early posts of this thread (post #2?). Here's what Asy said re setting up a ticker:-

Quote:

And I want to say that choosing "weight change" makes it harder for the rest of us to know where you are at, whether you are approaching a "milestone", or about to step down into "the 70's"..... In short, it is HARDER for us to support you if you choose "weight change". We'll still try, but you'll have to tell US as you move between segments - we can't pre-empt, or give you a leg-up like "Hey, only 400g to go and YOU will be a 70's girl!!" ........ or similar....

For those who DON'T wish to share their weight, choose "weight-change" as it really does keep us "in the dark" about your weight, until you choose to share. So, "weight change" does have its place.

But, for those who are wanting the best support, give us all you want to share about yourself (i.e. choose "weight" - and add the BMI option too) and we will be able to watch, encourage, and jolly you along this special path !!

In short, for most of you, choose "weight". (My opinion only )

But, if you are really embarrassed in quoting (or sharing) your weight, then choose "weight change".

Koh

PS and include that BMI option too - it all helps us to help you

Hey guys,
I thought I would post the instructions to help you update your ticker as well. A lot of people seem to have difficulties with that, and so going through and making a completely new ticker every time.

Updating your signature

1 - Find one of your posts on the forum and click on your signature. It will take you to the Ticker Factory website.

2 - Enter the PIN you chose when you created your ticker

3 - Click 'Edit/Update Weight Data'(don't click create new ticker)

4 - Leave Target and Starting Weight as they are

5 - Enter your Current Weight

6 - Enter Weight Date (the date of your last weigh-in)

7 - Scroll to the bottom of the page and click 'Next'

8 - Go back to the forum page where your signature is and hit 'Refresh' (the blue swirly arrow if you use Firefox, the two swirly green arrows if you use Internet Explorer)

9 - DONE! Your ticker will now have updated to reflect the right weight!

IMPORTANT NOTICE: You do not need to get the BB code and put it in to your signature again. The ticker will update automatically when you refresh the forum page.

Hope this helps!
