Default Kangaroo - does anyone eat it?

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone eats kangaroo? I eat it more often than beef and always have done. Though I really enjoy it, I normally have it with some sort of 'sauce'... as I cannot have the microwave ones I used to have, does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Shell,

I did read that one but it all seems to be mostly some people bagging the meat out & no recipes there.

Hi salm10

I eat Kangaroo regularly and love it. It you give it a quick spray with oil, season with salt and pepper then sear to medium rare/medium (it's a very lean meat so if you cook it to well done it will be tough), remove from pan and rest for 5-10mins (in a warm spot with foil over the top). I usually cut slices across the grain and put into a salad!

You're welcome! Hey, just thought, if you realllllly want a sauce, dice a small portion of onion and some garlic (part of veg allowance), sparay pan and saute gently till translucent (don't colour) then add the juice of an orange, 1/8 tea chilli powder plus sweetener and some water. Simmer and reduce under syrupy then pour over the kangaroo (done same as above).

PS - LOVE your mantra on idiots.... tee hee hee

I don't know much about Roo, or what would or wouldn't go with it. And I have only ever had it once, and that was only because I thought it was lamb (hehe).

But, I loved using mushrooms and onion to make a sauce for my steak... so maybe that would go nicely with roo?

I would just use my entire onion allowance (20gms) and then use the rest of my vege allowance in the form of mushies. Cook the onion first till it is browning and aromatic, then add the mushrooms, and cook till they are nice and soft and watery (aka, saucy).

Hope that helps,

Missy

Thanks WSM, that sounds great. I will definitely be trying that one!
The idiots mantra is so true - don't you agree?

Hey missy, I never thought of doing a mushroom sauce. I'll try that one next time I have steak and see how it goes!

Kangaroo is the bomb. I normally just have it like WSM suggested (the first suggestion), seared with some salt and pepper and then tossed through a salad. Yummo!
