Default hobby book reading

Hey all,
I adore reading and am always in the market for the next great book to read (for relaxation not Cohen's) so I was wondering - What would you all recommend and why?

Oh boy you and I are so similar. I'm an avid reader and read as much as I can. I love Psychological Thrillers, some Fantasy, Some Horror (Mild), Some Vampire books too (not just since Twilight, for many years). I love all of Jodi Picoult's Books and Paulinna Simmons, but othewise don't read a lot of dramas. I'm reading Jodi Picoult's "Handle With Care" at the moment. My favourite authors are Dean Koontz, Jonathan Kellerman, Jean M Auel, Lisa Gardiner, Patricia Cornwell, Mo Hayder, Iris Johansen, James Patterson, Diana Gabaldon, Stieg Larsson (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) & All the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling. Just to name a few lolol.

Oh i will have to look some of those authors up. I also love Jodi Picoult - have almost read most of them I would say. I am always on the hunt for the next author I will love as that gives me more than one book to chase down.

My taste also goes towards anything historical(English, Aussie, sometimes american), classics - eg. bronte's, austen etc., themes around india, middle east, jewish, and more.
I tend to shop a lot in op shops and second hand book stores as i hate spending loads of money on new books particularly if I don't know the author etc.

Some (note i say some as the list of all would be too long) of my favs would be -
A fine balance - Rohinton Mistry - all time favourite - set in India and all about the class system
Gone with the wind
The far pavilions - MM Kaye. (British Raj stuff)
Life of Pi- most bizarre book in the world and not my normal reading but so weird it still sits with me years later.
Roots (American history)
etc etc etc

If i was to start on a mystery type book MJ which author would you recommend - out of my usual genre of reading.
