Hi Martee
I'm a hard core Cohenite so I don't eat anything other than food I've prepared myself. If I go out for dinner I either eat my Cohen's meal before hand and just drink water at the restaurant. Or I take my own food. Annabelle Joy has arranged to have the chef prepare her a weighed meal a couple of times but she is also famous for taking her chicken nuggets with her to restaurants and eating them from a bag in her lap. I plan to do that next week at a fund raising dinner I have to go to. I've take my own food to dinner parties and the hostess has loved the way she doesn't have to cook or clean up after me. So it is possible. I used to feel very self conscious about not eating in restaurants bit it's been my experience and AJ's too that no one really notices. Other people make Cohen's friendly choices in restaurants but as it's not weighed that's not for me. I am very prepared I usually have a big cooking session once a week and freeze a lot of prepared meals. When I go away I take all my own food with me. I don't want to deviate. i want to get this thing done and get it done right, no mucking around. Good luck with the program, it works brilliantly but you have to work to achieve it. As I often say...it's simple but it's not easy. x Loulou

Hi martee
Welcome to the program. I spend a lot of time away from home and therefore have to resort to lots of cafe and restaurant food. I do my best to make wise choices and guess at the quantities. I always do better though when Im at home doing my own cooking and weighing, plus once a larger serving is put in front of you it is always much more difficult to limit yourself. You have obviously already been extremely successful, you will find cohen much quicker and if you stick to the plan you will be surprised how quickly you will get to goal. all the best Louise |

I think if you can find a way to eat out by guessing the amounts & sticking to the foods as close as possible is a good idea.. I never did eat out during the whole 12 months I was on the program.. I'm still cooking those meals now.. for me & for my youngest daughter.. it's annoying sometimes but so long as I'm organised it's not too bad.. I think like with most things its what you make of it.. a little extra effort in our food prep & we enjoy the experience a whole lot more...
I have a friend doing the program who says she's decided to eat out with a girl friend at least once a week.. she guesses her amounts.. maybe a chicken salad or something like that.. when she first started she was taking her own everywhere.. now she feels a little less restricted or perhaps less confined?? I dont know.. but she has a sense of freedom she didn't feel before, which for her works well.. for me though I didn't trust myself (still dont) so I took my own everywhere in a little fridge bag & would either eat it cold or ask for it to be heated up. It's really a trial & error thing & what works best for you.. BUT in saying all that there is something so hugely important & that is this.. If it's not written in your program as a food you CAN eat, then you CAN'T have it

LouLou's already said everything I wanted to say, Marttee. Restaurants that serve chicken or steak are often willing to weigh your food for you, but phone ahead. It's difficult for staff to do that in a busy restaurant with no notice.
A lot of forum members order off the menu, and perhaps order a salad rather than non-Cohen vegetables, then guess the size of the protein that they need to eat. AJ

Back again to do it all over again, starting from exactly the same weight as last time. My health is not good and my doctor is predicting all sorts of nasty things if I don't lose weight. What else do I do? I help people make money and I help people save money. Please take a look at http://www.acnlinks.clancie.com.au/ |

Hi Martee, I am also sick of 'dieting' and I also believe that going out to a restaraunt should be a pleasurable experience not a stessfull one by having the staff to measure your meal to the last gram...and if it is a popular place they wont have the time...so enjoy your meal and dont go overboard on the carbs... cheers J59xxxx

hey guys thanks for the feedback.. i went out for dinner tonight.. i went to a beautiful resturant of ours, and had grilled prawn salad.. i asked the waiter to put the dressing on the side and only got an entree serve which consists of 10 prawns.. i have had prawns before for lunch and know that 10 = 90 grams shell off.. so i guessed that give and take if the prawns were larger at the resturant than at home i should be fine.... the prawns had nothing on it at all as they would usually put garlic mayonaise on it.. i had mine with lettuce and other greens and a squeeze of fresh lemon on it was absolutly divine!!
im not going to bring my own food to a resturant.. that wouldnt be enjoyable for me and my boyfriend... we had beautiful night.. |
