Default Where Does the Weight Go?

Ok all you scientists, here's a question for you.

My Hubby was admiring how much less of me there is and said, "Where does the weight go when you lose it?"

I thought he was being funny but no he really wanted to know. "Matter can be changed but it can't be destroyed so where does that fat you're losing go, what does it change into?" he asked.

"I guess we burn it up as energy, or use it to do other things (not growing hair from the sound of many people on this forum!) And we do go to the toilet a lot but not as many BMs." I replied.

"No that doesn't explain the amount of weight loss" he said.

"OK", I said. "What about a log of wood burning in the fireplace, turning into heat and light and at the end there's just a little pile of ash, it weighs a lot less."

"Ah', said my Hubby. "But if you capture all the carbon that's released, all the smoke, all the water and weigh it along with the ash it will all weigh the same as the original log."

"What so the heat and light energy created by the log came from nowhere? I don't think that's possible."

"Matter can go to a lower energy state, less potential energy if you like, but it will still weigh the same," he said.

So there you have it. I'm bamboozled. Can anyone give me a satisfactory answer for my Hubby?

thanks

Loulou

My personal reply if he were my hubby would be:

You have 1 of two options, you can either be happy that it has disappeared and enjoy what is left without overthinking it

or (which if the worst of the two options)

I can make it reappear

Thank you Rue, I literally laughed out loud when I read that!

Bitten, I know for a fact that the fecal matter I've produced on this journey would not amount to much, ah but the urine that's another story.

Fat is liquified and the relevant sugars are burned by the body (energy being consumed) the toxins and the balance of liquified fat is excreted via the urinary tract hence the need to submit blood tests along the way to ensure the toxins are not overloading the kidneys and liver. As was said by bitten, we are literally peeing it away. The fecal matter is only the leftovers from our diet and not from fat being burned. This is why it's so import to stay well hydrated to keep the liquidized fat flushed from the system and to ensure no toxin buildup.

The fat is literally flushed away!

Good question Lucylou. My dear partner decided to buy a 5kgs bag of potatoes around about the time I had lost about that much weight. Bless his cotton socks as he has to eat all those potatoes on his own! but I keep looking at the bag and picking it up thinking that is how much lighter I am - I figure thats where mine went into that bag of potatoes - lol, Ill need a second bag soon!

I read somewhere that the human growth hormone turns our fat cells into water.. & then we weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee it out..

Makes sense to me.. hence why we need to drink so much water too.. helps flush all the crap out.

Edit: ANOTHER, perhaps main reason.. we should remain 100% focused & stick with the program.. if we produce insulin then human growth hormon goes packing.. carbs produce insulin... bye bye HGH..

Stay 100% hey .. weeee lots.. lose lots!!!!

I would probably have to agree with that one faithy as my weight is always less in the morning than the night and usually the fluids is the only tangible thing I have lost

Yeah, just tell him 'as long as it's not hanging on my bones, who cares. Just enjoy it!"

A friend of mine said that "women are not to be understood, they are to be loved" perhaps we could apply a similar strategy to the missing kgs. We dont need to understand where they have gone, just love the fact they have!

In a recent Dr Who programme the fat jumped out of our bodies overnight, slipped out the cat door and went up into space.

sure hope mine has gone that far away.

Hi Louise,

Trying to understand women is fraught with danger, intrigue, mystery, and frustration even... but you gotta love 'em (speaking as a bloke),

Thank you everyone for your replies. I have read them to my Hubby, yes all of them, and he had a laugh with me as well as feeling better informed.

I'm going with the weee. I remember I was told when I first started

"The more you drink the more you shrink"

So I guess that fat is getting dissolved by the HGH and we're flushing it down the toilet, those lucky fish!
