Default Help with meals while away from home

Hi,

I'm travelling away from home for a busy week with my sport.
Has anyone got any tips for meals that are quick and also good
for the freezer?
It is likely that I will only have access to a microwave in the mornings and at night. So will have to have a salad or such for lunch which is fine.

Any tips anyone?

Thanks

Hi Tish,

Boring but true, a beaten egg in the microwave may do the trick to resemble (somewhat) a scrambled egg.. If you have half a tomatoe with it, this should do the trick for brekky!

Id prefer to use the bar fridge (which you hopefully have) and take your yoghurt and fruit with you, for brekky.

As for lunch, Ive heard a few times McDonalds salads are ok when youre out and about. The other day, I ordered a garden salad (took the carrot out) and a seared chicken wrap (no mayo or lettuce and threw away the 'wrap'). Im not an expert, so I may have a few responses to this, but the quantities seemed pretty much similar to what cohens asks..

I know theres a recipe thread on here, where you may be able to do some soup varieties and if you have access to a bar freezer, you could even take some frozen brekky muffins to heat up in the morning!

Either way-good luck with it all!

Hi Tish

It's not difficult to stay deviation free whilst you are away if you plan a little bit. If you have a fridge yoghurt and cheese can be kept in fridge. Remember a can of tuna is easy and can be transported anywhere. I make sure I have a can handy if I even think there is a remote possability of not being where I can get food. I travelled around Tasmania for a month with no deviations and have done many other trips as well of a shorter duration.

Have spent 5 days out in the bush with no refrigeration and am doing it again soon. I did get very tired of cans of tuna but was do able. Also have had some funny meals. For instance ricotta cheese and a stick of celery weighed is a meal. Can of tuna and lebanese cucumber weighed is a meal. The supermarkets have bags of green stuff - lettuce, rocket, baby spinach etc - and one bag is a little over what you need.

I always have a small set of scales which I take with me when I am out and about on a trip. Freezer wise - AJ's chicken nuggets freeze well and are finger food that are easy to eat ..... and delicious!

Louise also did a lot of travelling and managed very well. So you may also wish to read her diary.

Good luck and all I can say is ...where there is a will there is a way.

Shanara

Red face

When I go away, I always take fruit & yogurt(pre wieghed in small ziplocks), lettuce, tomatoes, pre-wieghed canned mushrooms, block of mozzerrella, cooked amounts of chicken, canned tuna fish, and crackers in a small fabric cooler (one of the grocery store cooler bags would work as well). I put a large ziplock bag into another ziplock and fill it with water to make a ice block for the cooler. I use the bar fridge in the hotel and make another ice block nightly, with the extra ziplock as the bar fridge is never big enough to hold all of it. I never seem to take enough fruit so I cut down to one fruit a day. This works for me but does take alot of preperation.
