Is this true?
Hi,
Ive heard that there is a massive slow down when you get to 10kgs to go. I have lost 29 kgs so far and only have 9 to go but have been stuck on 9 for 2 weeks. Is this normal? I have consistently lost 2-3 kgs a week so am wondering why the complete stop when I have followed the program 100%. A friend that I work with said that she experienced the same thing when she did Cohens and was told that the weight she was on is her right body weight and she will never get down to her goal weight. Im considering coming of the program and losing the last 9 kgs though normal means as I will eventually have to live a different lifestyle then before so why not start now? Due to me not finishing my program in the original time (this is my 2nd time on the program) I've heard I will not receive reefed which is another reason I'm considering coming of and trying to finish it of though good eating and exercise. I look forward to your comments. |

Re: Is this true?
Hi!!
First of all congrats on loosing 29 kilos - great achievement. It is quite normal that the lower you get the more you could slow down a bit. But hey, I read constantly from people who celebrated because they lost 12 kilos or less over a period of a year with strenuous exercise and food restrictions... So even if it slows down a little bit you still will be loosing. The reason for slow down most of the time is that the body works now on the more stubborn fat depots. I experienced a light slow down too but all of a sudden little fat bulges here and there disappeared. Quote:
The life style should be similar to what you are doing now and refeed really stabilises your weight. Maintenance is a real learning curve but why not making the most of the program??? You have experienced first hand that it works! I lost 41 kilos in 7 months. Come on - you deserve it. Your body deserves it - just hang in there. Measure yourself and you will see thta you are still loosing even though your scales might have a little rest |

Re: Is this true?
I guess a big part of the reason I am considering coming of is due to the fact I can't get refeed. So in 6kgs time when I would have started refeed I'll have to make a switch to a maintenance program anyway.
I completely get the lifestyle will be similar and at the moment because I cat see results it makes the day to day grind and routine a lot harder. |

Re: Is this true?
Why can't you get Refeed?
I've had to start my Refeed a couple of kg early because I was experiencing such painful hunger pains (oh and also I was a grumpy horrible biarch!) and am gutted. Would really recommend seeing it through to the end, you are so close!!! I averaged around a kilo a week, which is far slower then most but still twice as fast as I could lose it any other way. Try to stick to it if you can, you will be so glad you did. |

Re: Is this true?
29 kilos is great so congratulations, you must be happy about that.
I'm just interested to know what you mean by normal eating if you don't consider cohens to be that???? I know the quantities are small but what you eat I think is pretty normal....... We get very accustomed to the rate of loss we have on this program but I'd be very surprised if you changed to a diet and exercise program to lose the rest, that you'd be able to achieve that like you've achieved on this program. Your lifestyle will have to stay pretty much this way when you're finished anyway, I know that if mine changes back to my old normal, then I'll end up right where I've started........for a third time. I have to make permanent changes to stay slim, I'm just genetically blessed in that way. I don't meant to be negative, but I really believe there are some very serious questions you need to look within yourself to find the real answer. I have a husband who also did Cohen's with me the first time, and he stopped 4 kg's from goal....got the refeed, but didn't do it.........he now 2 years on, has gained about 10kg of what he lost and finds it a constant struggle to keep his weight stable. Everyone would hate to see that you've lost all those kg's and then not be able to keep them off....... Maybe you could get an extension to the contract and continue so you could get your refeed if you didn't finish within your first contract time frame????? Dr Cohen does seem to have a pretty good idea of what our goal weights should be and I haven't heard that he gets it significantly wrong.........if you're not feeling the symptoms that your body is ready for a refeed, then it would send out red flags to me if I was thinking of stopping the program. Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide. Last edited by Collie; 10-06-2012 at 08:46. Reason: typo |

Re: Is this true?
Hi there
I go for my week 12 weigh in tomorrow, and hope to have hit the 18kg loss mark by then. I certainly lost weight quickly in the first week (had max of 25kg to lose, and lost almost 5kg in the first week), and since then have managed to average just over a kilo a week. I weigh in fortnightly, but I think I will weigh in weekly from this week so I can get my refeed as soon as I am ready for it. So I am under 10kg from goal (was just under 10kg to my lowest goal weight at my last weigh in), but maybe due to being a girl and having PCOS my average loss hasn't been that huge, but it has been consistent. I had a look at my WW passport from when I lost 13.8kg in 2004. Took me more than 6 months, this time with Cohens, took me 8 weeks! Anyway, I am not sure if this is helpful at all, but coming from someone who hasn't averaged big weightlosses weekly or fortnightly, I have not yet experienced a big(ger) slow down at getting to the less than 10kg to goal hurdle. |

Hey DrRixo
Fantastic effort so far - congratulations! Just curious though, what are your measurements showing during this plateau? |

Re: Is this true?
Hi DrRixo,
I know from a previous question that you are out of contract and won't get refeed. But I would finish what you started. My weight was actually pretty fast in the end. I plateaued for a little while but ended up losing my last 6 kilos in 2-3 weeks (that was after I had already lost 70 kilos). I agree with what Collie has said, the way that you eat on program is pretty close to how you eat in maintenance - it is just that the portions are bigger. Is there anyway that you could sign back up and then get your blood tests and refeed done. It really does maximise your chances of successfully keeping the weight off. But no, my last 10 kilos where not my slowest - not by a long way. Cheers Butterfly |
