Default Feeling tempted to deviate?

I am having a really stressful week and was very tempted to treat myself to ice-cream tonight. So taking a tip from the famous weight-loss show on tv at the moment, I filled up a backpack with 11.7kgs of books and left it in the kitchen.

Every time I went into the kitchen I struggled to lift the bag a few times, instead of opening the fridge. It was extremely heavy and I am disgusted with myself that this was the amount of extra weight I was carrying around for years.

It has been a real eye opener and has made me more determined than ever to get to goal. No more thoughts of treats for me now.

This is a great idea! I had thought of doing something similar when I get to maintenance- wanna drink that beer? Then do 30 squats holding your old 30kgs first.....

Definitely give it a try. Every time I see the backpack on the kitchen floor I get a shiver up my spine. It's really helped hit home how far I have come and how far I still have to go.

Plus my hubby came home and could hardly lift it

LOL on the hubby. I don't think I can find a back pack big enough - even a suit case hahaha - but what a great idea. Maybe I'll get a suitcase out & just leave it near the kitchen as a visual reminder, in fact I'm getting to the stage where I'll need 2 - 1 for each hand. Really love that idea as a deterent for deviation.

My hubby was talking about how the weight i am losing is equal to 2 of my son and he couldn't function with one of my son strapped around him. Mind you I had a strange thought - wow I must be quite strong then to carry all that around - Bizarre angle!!!!

Thats true, we must have been really strong before. But think of how much energy we have now without carrying the extra weight around all day and up and down stairs. I would honestly struggle to carry the backpack around for any length of time. No wonder I was so tired all the time.

I like the idea of having to use the suitcase. I'm hoping i'll get to that stage in the next few weeks. That would be a fantastic feeling. I'll need to stock up on more books beforehand

I picked up a 25kg bag of pool salt over christmas, which was how much I'd lost at that point, and I could not lift even half it off the ground. Took two of us to chuck it in the pool...and that used to be ON me!!!

No wonder I had dicky knees...

Hey Grem, that's exactly what I lifted up too! Pool salt, heavy as!!!!!!!!!!

One my trip away every time I had to struggle with my suitcase I was just thinking I cant believe I used to lug around more than this everywhere I went!!! What a horrible strain we put on our bodies!!

Also when I was away, I did a lot of walking and even my handbag was a struggle and it was only a few kilos!!! hahahah.

Wow, i am so loving this idea! After this i am off to fill up a backpack. I have gained 4kg since goal but now want to lose 6 - 8kg as i am a bit muffiny around the middle! So i will add 8kg to a pack and see if i can lift that.

Another good idea i found this morning as this is my day one again, is to write down all the reasons i want to lose this extra weight - the ones that annoy me like -

lose the muffin top
i dont enjoy the 12DD breasts, prefer the 12c at goal
i hate tight waistbands
nice undies are not so nice with extra tummy

So, maybe thats another incentive to stay away from non compliant foods and drinks. What motivates you? Is it the muffin top, the nana nicks etc? Pandora

I dream of being able to buy normal bras - but I have always been D or above even in my slim days so I am not holding out too much hope!

Hey TF, no intentions of deviating whatsoever! Just think its a great idea as a reminder of how far I've come!

What a great visual tool! Isn't it amazing what you can find on this site. My eyeopener was lifting a 20 kg. bag of calf feed and thinking gee.............thats heavy and I've lost even more than that!"" The brakes are on, as I never want to go back to where I was. The before and after photo on the fridge is also a constant reminder of where I was and where I am now when I am tempted to have something I shouldn't be having. It is so easy to slip back into those bad habits isn't it!? New habits take a long time to form to the norm. We have to change or we will be right back where we started. No illusions. They tell us that from the very beginning............ that this is a lifestyle change. With the support and experiences that are here on the forum you will all get the inspiration you need to keep plodding along until you reach your goal.

I love this idea!!
I am going to go and fill a bag up to the weight of 35kg and see if I can lift it!! Oops, maybe not as it is not six weeks yet since my surgery, I'm not supposed to lift anything heavy!!
I lost 58kg on Cohens 2010/2011 but have put 23kg back on.
I do not want to put any more back on...
Today I have been 100% Cohens Original plan. Just one day on plan and I feel so good, why do I let myself deviate??
It is the evenings when I am home alone I find it hard, my husband is out Monday, Thursday & Sundays nights, it is at these times I have done the most damage, this is when I have found myself comfort eating.
I now realize with Summer almost here I'm feeling very sad, even depressed at times, full of panic, finding myself avoiding social occasions with people who have not seen me since I have regained my weight.
Tonight I am trying to find ways to help, so found this post "Feeling Tempted to Deviate" just awesome.
Cheers Marg (MaggieLyn)
