No energy
this is the first time I have Posted anything, i have been reading every day and have gained alot of support and advice from you all. However there is one thing that has been bothering me that I cant seam to find the answer for. I have completed my re feed today !! yeah Me!!! I have not deviated once have been very strong even going out to resturants 4 or 5 times a week, with my dinner pre packed. But I have suffered all the way through with zero energy and dizziness!! I have put this down to lack of food, however now I have completed Re feed I was expecting my energy levels to increase as the food did. It did not !!! i was a extremely active person before cohens and it has been the hardest sacrifice of all to stop my Tennis , walks Runs swims surfing everything. I cant even get up the stairs some days. When if ever do I get some energy back! If the last day of refeed is a guide as to what you eat on maintenance for the rest of your life, this is not for me!! Some one please help !!! |

Hi Mac,
What a shame you didn't speak up earlier !! Your journey might have been much more pleasant.... My thoughts immediately turned to "low blood pressure" - have you checked? Are you taking vitamins, etc? What does your clinic say? I'd guess you would have raised this with them? Re "the last day of refeed" food amounts not being enough, I can't help (see my sig). With you now on Maintenance, maybe it's going to be "learning what food amounts ARE right for you". Another thing that can cause "low energy" is hypo-glycaemia (low blood sugar). One to check out with the Doc maybe? Because we don't "know" you, it's a little hard to guess... Hopefully some of my thoughts may be useful. Let's see what others have to say, Koh

Thanks for the input
I live overseas , away from my clinic, so have difficulty in this area, They do always try to answer my emails. This is new question as I thought the energy would increase by end of re feed, waiting for a reply to my email sent to them |

Hi Mac
What you are describing warrants, I think, a trip to the Doctor. If it is true that "I cant even get up the stairs some days" then that level of lassitude is not normal, in fact far from it. Most people on Cohen’s become positively dangerous! If you have been feeling fatigued for a while, I would urge you to have a medical check-up. You could be anaemic, have glandular fever, have picked up a parasite, a vitus or whatever. You have lost weight, that is all, not vigour and strength, so please see a doctor at your earliest opportunity. That means, tomorrow. Regards Kristine |

Hey Mac,
Why not share a little more about your Cohen journey - like how long you've been on it, how much you've lost, your age (if you don't mind sharing), male or female ("Mac" could be either), etc. As I said earlier "We don't know you" - so it leads to a bunch of guessing - but, with more info, some of our more experienced Cohenites could well come up with very useful info for you. You say you are "overseas" - where, and where is your clinic (they are all a bit different - we might have someone here using the same clinic who can help?) Share as much (or as little) as you feel comfortable with, Koh PS Just noticed Kristine's post - and with some good advice

I would also suggest a physical might be in order. It sounds like low BP to me as well (I suffered with HBP before the program and now my BP is normal again unmedicated). Shortly into the program (about 1 month) I found I had huge energy but I didn't have any stamina which caused me to lose a tooth running after a silly bus one evening as I left work. Had the energy to make a run for it but the legs didn't have any 'legs' and I ended up face down in the dirt.
How many Crispbreads were you allotted on the program? Did you eat all of them? I occasionally got dizzy if I tried to go without them. I found that I needed the little carb boost that them allowed. Now that you are finished refeed, you may want to try upping the carbs intake (but ONLY if the doc rules out LBP) You may need to stay on vitamin supplements. Normally if you exercise you will need some carbs to fuel the exercise engine. Check the Doc for something out of whack first though......

Hi Mac
I used to have a similar problem with lack of energy, long story short, it turned out that i had a slight hypo functioning liver, which is nothing serious, just an extreme decrease in energy levels and constant zombie-like feeling. With the help of the right doctors, was prescribed medication for a only a month to cleanse the liver and now i take only vitamins. I no longer struggle lifting my arm and a flight of stairs seems like a walk in the park. My point being: you should definitely go see a doctor, and get a full blood test and see if maybe your body isn't lacking in something. Chikita |

Thanks all for the input
I am going to go to doctor this morning after dropping kids at school! I now feel really stupid that I let this go on for so long. I live in Bali so going to the doctor is not something I do regularly as they are a bit incompetent here with diagnosis but i dont think they can stuff up a blood pressure read! Will keep you posted!! Mac |

I hear that loud and clear! I was hospitalized in Medan in N. Sumatra back in the mid '80's after an accident involving a shower stall at the Danatoba Hotel (don't ask). I would have been better off going to a bomoh! And the doctor was the local version of the Caltex company doc!

MAC,
If you have a read through my blog you'll see that I've struggled with energy issues (loads of energy but zero stamina, dizziness etc) - it takes a while to push through it, but I found the timing of when I ate my meals, vs fruit allowances vs coffees, vs water vs vitamins etc all play a vital role. Had once where i woke up early buzzing off the walls with energy, went a hit a medium sized bucket of golf balls at the driving range at 6am and pretty much slept the rest of my weekend away because it absolutely screwed me! I know I had a thread on here somewhere about energy levels and there was some good responses etc on there.

I would go and see the Dr. I suffer from lack of energy if I overdo it, but mostly Im ok as long as I dont do too much. My expectation is that once I finish the program I will be able to do more and have my old energy levels back- I hope you get to the bottom of the problem
