BREAD - which one is best?
I plan to go for the preservative free variety when on refeed and beyond Is there a type of bread that is considered better post Cohen's?

Re: BREAD - which one is best?
From my experience - no bread is good post program.
I have been trying to have home made bread, made with spelt flour, or bought spelt bread from the organic baker.

Re: BREAD - which one is best?
Burgen - Wholemeal & seeds - for body balance in 5 ways
1.low G.I. 2. Lower carbs 3. Protein + fibre 4. Nutrient dense with zinc, iron, magnesium and phosphorous 5. high in wholegrains Not bad for a slice of bread ehh??? The carbs PER slice are 8.6 grams carbs. Compare that with premium crackers (15g serve) at 9.4 grams carbs. Or say 3 slices burgen per day (later in refeed) = 25.8 carbs total against 6 serves premium crackers (my allow) = 28.2 carbs! In fact, AFTER refeed, i can have either 3 breads OR 9 crackers so carbs go even higher on the cracker side etc! All the OTHER burgens are almost double the carbs per slice but equally as healthy! Just did my "research" this morning in the supermarket with my trusty calculator so thought this info might save you (and others!!) time! I compared the labels of dozens fo bread and they were ALL in the teens of carbs per slice EXCEPT for this one!! Cool! Found that from the re feed section, Pandora did the research. That is the bread I will be eating after re feed. Also the "Mountain Bread" brand is preservative free also, many different varieties available. Shell

Re: BREAD - which one is best?
Hi Everyone.
I have read a few threads regarding bread but I am still a little confused as to what we are allowed. I bought a Vogel's sandwich slice soy & linseed (lower in carbs) bread. My program says thin slices (which they were) about 30g. I weighed a piece and it was near 50g! To be on the safe side I hacked the bread until it weighed 30g and ended up with this little square hahaha. I thought it better to be safe then sorry until I heard your opinions or until I can ring my clinic next week. I think it weighed heavy due to the seeds. I have read some posts on here saying we are not allowed seeded breads and others that say that we are??! My bread was low GI etc but maybe I should opt for one without seeds so that it is the right weight? I'm hoping to have a piece tomorrow so would love to hear any opinions. Thanks. |

Re: BREAD - which one is best?
Hey Hayley,
My clinic told me to stick with white or wholemeal bread through refeed so that I didn't have to worry it was the seeds etc I reacted to. I thought that was pretty sensible so I had white bread on refeed and grain bread on maintenance. Connie

Re: BREAD - which one is best?
Me too. My refeed program states no bread other than white. No health or seeded breads.
I thought Bakers Delight Hi Fibre Low GI, sliced thinly, would be the best option??? But I havent started refeed, or looked into it in detail, yet. |

Re: BREAD - which one is best?
That's right Connie.. we need to keep the bread as simple as possible during refeed.. health breads, seeded breads, grain breads etc etc are OKduring maintenance but during refeed these 'special' or 'health' breads have different protein levels etc..
I just went for boring old white bread with no preservatives.. Refeed is a very fine art.. dont complicate things too much.. simple & plain is best. |

Re: BREAD - which one is best?
Thanks everyone for your replies!
I ended up buying a Molenburg Balance. Its thin 30g sandwich slices and resembles a wholemeal bread - not very grainy at all hence it's light weight. So I think it will be a good option. |

Re: BREAD - which one is best?
Oh! Is high fibre low GI a health bread? My consultant shrugged her sholders and said should be okay. hmph!
Another question...because we can only have 2 crackers at a time, I know that bread equals 3 crackers but are we allowed to have a 2 bread sandwich on refeed? Im doubting it but read somewhere that someone had a sandwich (on refeed) which I just assumed was no within the regulations. Thanks again...started refeed today! |

Re: BREAD - which one is best?
No it's fine ....sandwich is OK .. by that stage you don't need to have 2.5hrs
