If it not written on YOUR program- you can not have it.

Ahhh........ pickled onions are not on the list, but neither is cohen's spagetti or thai chiken patties. If you add up what is on the list.......onions and vineger (white wine or red wine - sorry i don't have my program on me), you get pickled onions. I am pretty sure the onion allowance for a day is half a tablespoon. I had one small to med pickled onion a day throughout the program and it didn't hurt me.

Rocks ,

Unless you pickle your own onions and can vouch for all ingredients you cannot state that vinegar and onion = pickled onions ... most have sugar or salt as a stabilising agent or other preservatives to improve shelf life, add colour etc.

If you pickle your own then sure .. eat them as much as you like.

If you chose to eat foods not on the program you may think they did not do you any harm ... but how would you know .... its a tree falling in the forest scenario........... only if you could go back to the day you started and do it again could you be sure, and then only if all other elements remained the same and only one changed.

IMHO

pickling onions in a jar of vinegar for a month will do the job, its pretty easy. Oh, and i can't believe someone has turned this thread into a slew on words for a bash at deviation. SUPPORT PEOPLE

I don't know where you got the impression that "someone has turned this thread into a slew on words for a bash at deviation"

kylz asked a question and got an honest answer.

Rocks ,

If that was a go at me then let's have it .... I was pointing out that you cannot assume that anything is a combination of your ingredients unless you make it yourself, and that if you don't do that then you cannot be sure you have not varied from your program.

A lot of people come here looking for support... but a lot of people also come here hoping that someone will give them permission to do whatever it is that they want to do ... 'ohhh I read on the forum that I could do it so I thought it was OK'. It is for that reason I always try to give advice strictly down the line .... I did not drag deviating into the thread - the thread started as a question on whether a product could be eaten .....I assumed it was in reference to a commercial product at first.... when you pointed out it could be a combination of ingredients I answered - only if you make it yourself .... otherwise you cannot be sure it is what you think it is. Dr Cohen himself states in the program - Any deviation from these ingredients or quantities and you just might be wasting your time.

Where exactly did I make it a slew on deviating?

Thanks Connie and Shell for your reply - and as Shell and Connie have pointed out - pickled onions are not part of your daily allowance and I reckon even if you made them yourself they would not be part of your program - a lot is to do with the right food combination as well as the amounts and ingredients - If Its not on your list you cant have it - and pickled onions have undergone a transformation and become a processed food as such. Any way why complicate it - stick to the plan and loose the weight.

You only have to stick around and see who the successful people are and who don't make it in the end.

Hi Kylz

Why don't you run it past your consulant - worth asking - you never know. Maybe there is a way that is acceptable.

I have on special occasions...such as christmas and birthdays, made veg in vinegar. I slice up my allowance of veg using onion, cucumber and tomato and liberally douse with apple cider vinegar, and leave to stand for 30 mins or so. Takes the raw edge off the onions and is delicious. I only add a little Celtic salt and some pepper before serving. Totally on plan and a little bit special. Might satisfy your pickled onion penchant maybe?

We can have Cohen approved vinegar, water & Cohen approved sweetners, so just add them together & some onion then let it sit for awhile. I dont see that as being a problem.. Just dont go over the onion allowance..

Hi Kylz,

Going back to your original question - Are pickled onions allowed on the program?

Answer - yes they are allowed BUT they MUST have no sugar or oil in the pickling solution and not be heavily salted.

There is absolutely no reason why you cannot make your own as then you will know exactly what is in them. You could try getting little onions, stabbing them with a fork all over (so the vinegar penetrates quicker), drop them into a jar of vinegar and let them sit for a week - or even a few days and see how they go.

Oh and your allowance would be the same as if it was fresh onion - no more than 2 tablespoons per day.
