Default Day 17 of refeed - should I still

be loosing weight? I've dropped 400g overnight and was under the impression that weight loss stabilised in refeed??!! I forgot to ask my consultant yesterday and today - and they are closed over the weekend. Does anyone else think it is a problem or something that just happens?

Hi Volte,

In times past, there were many posts made saying "You won't lose any more weight after Day 10 of refeed". I'm not sure just which sources were "out there", but, through observation, I have to say that old information is maybe "common", but shouldn't be taken as a certainty.

I've noted MANY who continue to shed weight right through refeed, and even into early Maintenance. One that sticks in my mind is Rowemob (should you want to check her Refeed and Maintenance Diaries). But she is far from alone in this field.

I toyed with "starting a list", but never did.... I'd guess that the number that lose right thru refeed might be lowish though (5% to 10%? - certainly not all).

I'm with Shell on this one. Your body will chart its path according to its needs.

I have a theory- no evidence
bmi is such a non science when calculated simply by weight v height
I suspect there are many variations in bone and organ and limb structure which could affect the goal weight
hence some people are ready before and some continue to lose after

Just enjoy! Everyone is different - I lost up until half way through refeed - I was below my goal weight. I got to the stage that I couldn't eat all the food, so the new foods were the priority, and if I couldn't fit the old stuff, I didn't (esp the fruit)

Looking forward to refeed and maintenance and I hope to be better equiped to handle it much better this time round...

all the best, Lesley

Hi mcpsych,

You sound right to me too - to me, BMI is simply a "guide", and NEVER an absolute. There are too many variables.

Add to those variations, shoe size, sex, nationality, body types, and that makes simply going by BMI quite doubtful. Fortunately, Doc Cohen uses a "goal range" as he knows there is no ABSOLUTE end weight for you. Again, I believe "goal weight" is a guide, not an absolute.

However, I believe BMI remains a guide, and the general public quotes it - as such, it has a de facto credence. But cred that is called into question now and then.

On here, it is used as a "milestone measure" and is to be applauded as the walk continues toward "normal range". Even if that is all it is worth, perhaps it's worth it?

Yes FYM It's hard to believe when we start but yes I felt I had lost enough! I'm now down in the range suggested by Dr C so feel that probably my body wasn't quite ready to stop loosing yet.

I'd read (either here or in the Cohnes blurbs??) that you loose during refeed as the new foods give your metabolism a kick start.
Could be wrong but someone else may be able to find a link?
