Re: Just wondering - backache as a refeed symptom..
Hi RC,
Good question!! I well recall Asy's words (not sure if it is a post, or was on a phone call) where she said that "Backache is not one of the refeed signs!" However, there do seem to be a number of people that experience some backpain as they near refeed. I would "think" it is more a "posture change" thing (different muscles being used than were previously?) I'm not SURE of that, as I'm not any kind of medical person...... I'd be interested, too, if anyone else can come up with a more experienced answer. Koh

Re: Just wondering - backache as a refeed symptom..
Thanks Koh - yes I have heard the same re the backache not being related to refeed time.
Even so, I guess it would still be good to know why so many complain of backache - even if it is completely unrelated. So postural does make sense - that is a great theory And, I AM a medical person - but until I work out where the pain is in the back, it is hard to determine what it relates to. i know that I have had upper back ache from time to time - seemingly over nothing..but I would imagine that it would be in my case a situation where my body is getting smaller, but my bazzookas have stayed the same... However, very excited to report...things are starting to move there also...but that is another post all of its own!! Anyone else have futher to report on back pain?? |

Re: Just wondering - backache as a refeed symptom..
Hey RT,
During my first time around, I didn't experience back ache as a refeed symptom, BUT I did have an achy back at times. I actually had it quite recently, where my shoulders were really sore and I ended up with headaches... This was also around the same time when I noticed I still had a little hump on my back, otherwise known as "back fat" (but upper back)... Anyway, I put up with the pain, as I was just thinking it's cos I'm a chubby checker and I must have slept wrong etc etc... Fast forward to a few days ago, after a little while of no pain (but not really noticing, just getting on with life) and it wasn't until I saw myself side-on in the mirror that I realised my hump was gone!! Hooray! Then it dawned on me, "oh yeh, and that niggling back pain is gone as well. Mmm weird, wonder if it's related." And I think it is... In my little thinking-mind I thought maybe, just maybe, the pain was due to my back "changing" and maybe muscles shifting to cope with the differences, etc... I dunno, if it is true or anything, but the back pain, back fat, loss of back fat and 'oh yeh, no pain anymore' all happened at "right" time for the theory to fit. hehe, anyhoo, that's my 2 cents, for what's it's worth... which, by the way, is roughly 2 cents. haha! Cheerio!

Re: Just wondering - backache as a refeed symptom..
Sorry to let this old post resurface, but I experienced excrutiating back ache as I was nearing my goal weight (before refeed). I couldn't figure out if it was my kidneys or a spasm, like a pinched muscle. I also started wearing really high heels at the time (I felt so fabulous in my new body), so I thought it could be a combination of all of the above.
This carried on for about 3 weeks, but I never got around to visiting a doctor. Luckily for me, as at around the same time I went with a friend for her initial presentation at the Cohen's clinic, and the consultant mentioned that when nearing your goal weight you may be experiencing kidney-like pain. She did explain that your organs would be shifting back in to their proper position as the fat deposits in your abdomen disappears which could cause discomfort. That makes perfect sense to me.
