Sadly, I am out of this round of the comp. Boo hoo.

Last night I went to dinner, and called to pre-arrange my meal. Gave all the instructions. Chef "Yes, yes, no problems". It arrived looking beautiful, and after a few bites noticed that the beautiful tower of prawns and vegies had avocado!

No reason for me not to continue on and beat my own score this week though...84 is the elusive number for me!

I hope no one is disappointed in me...I am going to be just like LucyLou soon, and get 10 Dancing Mangoes under my name

Ya know, I am not entirely sure I'd call that a deviation as such, I think it's an accident.
  • You didn't do it on purpose.
  • You tried your best to make sure you were catered for.
  • You stopped eating the avo when you found out it was wrong. (I'm assuming here)
I don't think you should lose your 'deviation free' status over this.

Maybe I'm on my own here, but, I think that you really did your absolute best to follow the programme, and through no fault of your own, with no premeditation, you faltered.

It's up to everyone, I guess, and I'd really HATE people to start "making excuses" for their deviations as that's the first step on a slippery slope, and I don't believe for a minute that's what you're doing, just commenting.

Perhaps a couple of other people could give their thoughts, maybe I'm on my own here...

I firmly believe "Deviation free" is as much a state of mind as a comment on what you've eaten. Perhaps more so. During my time on the programme I had one memorable 'error', where I drank some lemonade, believing it was my 'diet' stuff, but the kids had an identical bottle of lemonade in the fridge (unbeknownst to me), which was full sugar. I didn't find out until the next morning when my daughter threw a fit that 'someone drank her lemonade'. The bottles looked alike (other than the little 'diet' logo, but it was midnight when I drank it, and I had company, so I wasn't concentrating). I still say that I did my programme with no pre-meditated deviations. And I think your 'fault' was less your fault than this one was.

Anyway, if you, and the other participants, decide to not count your error, I'd support it.

asy.

Hi Chailee,

I'm with Asy. To me, the word "deviate" means "to stray from the path" (i.e. a deliberate step away from the journey).

As such, Chailee, I also agree, that you didn't deviate....

You had tried your level best to do it right - and someone else let you down. To me, it's an "oops" and not a Devi.... Let's see what others think,

Koh

PS I think we have a bunch of people now eligible for a banana
Let me know if anyone needs assistance with their sigs....

And me? I'm a tall skinny-ish bloke (BMI ~25.5) and have been this way forever, so I haven't faced (weight-wise) what you all have !!

Thanks Koh and Asy for your lovely support. I have to say though, I did eat the Avocado...there was no way to scrap it off, it was all mixed in together and then put into one of those moulds (so it's a perfect circle kind of situation).

Not happy to have deviated, but I am happy to step out of the Mango race...I am still having my own race with myself to get as close to "perfect" as possible, so all is not lost.

Thanks for your support, it did pick me up for sure!

Hi Asy and Koh

Thanks for your two posts. I have been thinking about this deviation thing too and I really agree with what you have said.

Sometimes through no fault or intention of our own something goes wrong yet there was no deliberate intent to stray. Like in your example Asy. I have my own one too - very early in the programme I used some thigh meat of chicken not realising that I was not supposed too. No deliberate intent - just me not being familiar enough with the program in the early days. Had been using thigh meat for years and didn't pick up the breast bit. Someone commented on only breast meat in this forum and I haven't used thigh since. Still think of myself as deviation free - just a mistake.

Thanks for all that you both do to enable this forum to be so motivating.

Shanara

Chailee, I'm sorry, I still wouldn't count it. I'd still say you're mangoriffic.

Shanara, thank you for your kind words, they're very appreciated.

We really ARE all human. Mistakes are made and we have to live with them, it's not repeating them that's the key.

I get really cranky not so much at deviations, but at EXCUSES for deviations, and at deliberate strays from the programme which are then said to be "OK, because I had to for whatever reason'.

Things like what happened to both of you are not an issue.

asy

Hi everyone, today's the last day of this challenge. Congratulations to those who have earned their Banana, and then their Mango!! There is a new thread for the next challenge which starts tomorrow.

I think I need to chase Mette's and LucyLou's records for sure.

If you have trouble adding your Mango then please let Asy and myself know.

See you in the next thread!!!

Thanks Chailee

I felt very proud as I attached my first mango - funny really - but that little guy symbolises a lot.

Thanks for keeping this running.

Woo hoo. Weird, I made the two weeks without realising it was up... I thought I had another week to go.

Yay, that's another mango (#3) for me and Chailee, please add me to the new challenge that would have started on 14th.

Have a good fortnight everyone,
NBS x

I'm going to close this thread now, as there's a new thread for the new challenge and I'm concerned people are getting confused between the two.

Congrats to everyone with dancing Mangoes you really should be proud!
