Default Reasons for overeating

I thought this would be interesting to see what people attribute their overeating to.....

Is it really "Not about the food".....??

Or for some people is it ONLY about the food....

I know for most people it's probably a combination but this is and anonymous poll to try to pinpoint the MAIN reason...

Thanks

Debs

mmmm - overeating....I've forgotten how gratifying it can be!

I always seem to have eaten healthy - one of my favourite snacks is (was) Tahini on Vitaweats!. My main downfall is alcohol and probably oversized meals? I never really binged on tim tams etc only alcohol and all the nibbles that come with it usually!

Can you add "boredom"?! Seriously, if I'm not busy and just sittin' around doin' nuthin'... the world of food just beckons ever so sweetly! That was my past, that and the never ending supply of children's leftovers!

I still don't think I am an emotional eater - I just think that eating the wrong foods is too easy! It is everywhere we go, it is crap food and really hard to get anything decent (hey I wouldn't have said that a few months ago) but our lifestyles and what has become 'acceptable' to eat everyday - isn't it is full of sugar and refined crap that our bodies were not designed to eat. In the nomadic days we lived on protein and veg none of this packaged rubbish that isn't food at all. And thats why I got fat...constant food, too large in portion size, snack here, dim sim there...it's not rocket science to figure out why most of the population is overweight.

Can I second what Hexi said - bad foods are just so easy! Packet of chips in the pantry for the kids, KFC on the way home from tennis training, etc. Its just too easy and convenient for our busy lives. But perhaps I use that as my excuse for being overweight. I mean how hard is it to grab an apple or make a nice tuna salad??? Reality check...

I too agree with Hexi, but for me it is also the blasted TV.. I found that I needed a cup of coffee and biscuits or a cake/chocolate/ whatever was handy so that I could enjoy my break, I gave up the coffee a long time ago because unless it is a cupachino I can't enjoy it without the extras.. Now I will sip on a pepsi or if I really have to I will have a piece of fruit..

Another bad habit was that I love to try new things, and I found I had to do it because I might not get that chance again so I would indulge.. Now I dont fall for it.. unless I know it is a healthy option that is.. Like Daisies salt.. that is good, real good...

I have to say that it is so good and quicker now to do my shopping because I just whiz by those aisles that would suck me in with "New Line" stickers on the products (not to mention the $$$ I save)..

Well where do I begin I am so experienced. Mainly for me it is when, what and how much. I always feed the kids well, always healthy meals that are prepared and served at the correct time. Then after making the beds, doing dishes and doing the school run, I would eat at around 10:00am-11:00am. Too late because I normally wake up at around 5:30am-6:30am. Then I would eat too much of whatever because I was starving. That would get me through till the afternoon, I would pick whilst preapring dinner and Having a couple of glasses of wine. When the kids were in bed, between 7:00pm - 8:00pm, I would reward myself for all the hard work with a nice homemade comfort meal. But since being on Cohens I have a strict routine to stick to also. So the regularity of eating every 5 hours with my fruit and crackers in between meals works well. Until the weekends arrive and I have this physcological issue of having to relax and have a glass of wine But baby steps, on line support and a will to succeed will see me through. I will make it eventually and reach my goal
Regards Kelly

I would need an "all of the above option"

I am an emotional eater, if I feel an emotion I like to crush it with copious amounts of food, and they better be bad foods, and a lot of them.
Or I would just happen to have enough money in my purse to afford a chiko roll, that's worth celebrating, with a chiko roll!!!

after only having been on the program for 3 weeks, I'm already trying to program my mind to think like a thin person, and make sure I chose healthy foods after all my weight has gone.

cheers
babytime

I wish I knew why I over ate.. I think it's a mixture of boredom, emotional eating & that feeling (goodness knows where I got it from) that if I don't eat that particular thing, whatever it was, that I was missing out.. put all that together & you had one monster of an over eating machine.. I'm amazed I wasn't fatter than I was.. still.. I guess I never really knew how fat I really did get to till I had lost about half the weight I needed to lose.. than I just went in to shock

HI gang!
My main overeating reason is emotion - and it can be any emotion, sad, stressed, happy, angry...................it's a hard battle to fight, but at least i recognize now what is going on, rather than just shovel more food in the gob!!
I now am trying to eat to live............rather than live to eat!!!
Good luck to all on their own personal journeys of discovery...............scary, isn't???? LOL

Ditto to all of the above - boredom, emotional eating, convenice, rewarding myself with food, etc. I also grew up in one of those homes where you had to clean your plate at every meal... "there are 1000's of children starving in <insert country name here>". After leaving home I still ate everything I dished up and the portions were just completely, totally out of whack. The alcohol thing also played a big role for me I'm sure. Wine and spirits everyday - the calories all add up!

Yep, I'm all of the above, with boredome thrown in as well.
Include in there "habit" as well, which is what I'm slowly changing whilst on this program.

It is more socially acceptable to over eat then to take drugs or get drunk all the time. Food never judged me and was always there.

I'm with Katrina on what she said.
AND food just tastes good. It's the actual taste of food that makes me want to eat more, the need/addiction to have more, not so much the feel of the stomach being full.

I love to cook - my husband calls me Nigella. It's the variety of foods that seduces me, so much on offer, so much choice and I chose it all! I need to look for new experiences that aren't food...and be more content with a more limited diet.
