Default Mountain Bread

Hi All,

I have been thinking and i was just wondering - is\was anyone allowed Mountain Bread as part of their "Crispbread" allowance? I love mountain bread and think it would be really good to make wraps with and stuff but i haven't had a chance to talk to my local clinic about it...
I did some investigating and attached is a list of the nutritional information about Light Saladas, Original Vita Weets and Wheatbread Mountain bread. Mountain bread wins hands down on pretty much all accounts - lower fat, sodium, carbs.
I may just be totally ignorant and be missing something obvious... but it seems like mountain bread could be a good option...

let me know what everyone thinks about it and whether anyone knows if it has been allowed...

thanks guys and girls

If it's not on your plan, it's not on the plan.

Lots of carbs in mountain bread.

thanks for your post meagin, i understand the if it's not on your plan stuff, and thats fair enough. I understand carrots aren't there because they are high in sugar and all that stuff but when looking at the comparison between Vita weets, saladas and mountain bread - perr 100g mountain bread has 11g less carbs then vita weets and 23g less then saladas... i don't see how that makes it have more carbs... it also has the lowest amount of sugar in it as well...

Check with clinic, and insist they actually check with Cohens rather than just giving you the "if it's not on the plan, don't eat it" default answer.

Hi Nelle,

Please check, it would be nice if it was allowed.

thanks guys, i have a meeting with the clinic tomorrow so I will ask them then. And I really hope they don't do the "if it's not on the plan thing" because I think it would be really slack of them not to check it out.
my sister did sure slim and i know it's not the same as cohens but it is quite similar and even she was allowed it (she hated it though) so she can't see why it wouldn't be allowed

but I will keep you all posted

How did you go at the clinic? Did you get to ask them and if you did, what was the response?

so, I talked to the clinic and she said no mountain bread. However, I suspect she had no idea what it was because she kept referring to how 1 piece of bread is equivalent to 3 crispbreads and "you know you can't have more then 2 at a time" (said in a sing song sort of voice). However when I asker her why not (she looked rather taken back when i questioned her answer) she sprouted some crap about we can't have certain things because they trigger certain responses in us and that dr cohen doesn't think we should have it... it was really a pretty poor and flimsy excuse and I really wasn't satisfied.
My partner came in with me and when we got outside he said it was the lamest excuse he had heard.

so, I'm going to see how I go and have mountain bread this week instead of my normal saladas and if I have a negative reaction then I will stop, but if I keep losing weight then I'm going to keep eating it... so I guess I will keep you all updated

Hi Keels,

Thats really good that you have someone to lose the weight with, it's good to have the support of someone who knows your pain at missing out on the skinny flat whites! It also gives you the chance to be a little bit competitive with them which is always a good motiviation
To date, I have lost 10kg exactly, but that is since I started in May last year. So far this year since starting again on the 2nd i have lost 1.6kg.

Green tea isn't so bad, but I love the nestle green tea range with mango... unfortunately none of that for awhile...

good luck!

Hi Nelle, of course it is your decision whether you do cohen's 100% by the book OR not.

On that note, a tip from the Sureslim program (i did it almost 4 years ago). I was allowed one pice of mountain bread OR 4 vitawheats OR 4 other crackers (on their list). Somehow i found the one piece of mountain bread quite "skimpy" and always opted for the 4 vitawheats or 4 cruskits instead as they seemed more filling. However, you can do more with mountain bread, i.e. bake it in oven and make into "corn chips" and top with cheesy veg salsa etc. Wraps, "pizza" base etc. I even have a recipe for cheese and veg lasagne from then.

It will be interesting to see how you go with your experiment! Pandora

Howdy all,

I forwarded your attachment to the girls at the Brisbane clinic about Mountain Bread, & this is what I got back :

The Mountain Bread question has been asked before, and Dr Cohen said no. He doesn’t enlighten us as to why, just that it’s a NO. Sorry.

So it's a secret as to why, but definitely no.......... Huge bummer

thanks for your responses

yeah see to me I can't see that that is a good enough reason not to have it. I like to know EXACTLY why I can or can't (in particular) do something. So, yeah I'm going to keep trying with the mountain bread and see how I go with it... I'm loving being able to have it... I had a tandoori chicken salad wrap for lunch yesterday and it was fantastic!
And I've lost another 500g! I'm almost at my first major goal weight... and I'm pretty sure I can lose the 600g before then so I will hopefully be under the weight!

so I will keep you all posted and see how it goes...

well, 8 days later, having had at least 1 piece of mountain bread a day, sometimes 2 and I am still losing weight. I have lost about 2kg since i started eating the mountain bread so I can't really see that it is having a negative reaction.
but that's just me. other people may have a negative reaction to it.

the best thing is, it is definitely making me feel fuller at lunch. that and i guess my stomach is shrinking lol

but if people want to give the mountain bread a go, I suggest testing the waters like I did. I have also tried to start drinking just a little more water, just in case.

let me know if anyone has and problems or questions or anything else.

Nelle
