Default How twisted can you get? (No, it's nothing real bad... just me venting...)

Hehe,

I'd heard the comment in the past that the internet can be a rubbish bin. With sites like this one (NewYou) "out there", that can be hard to agree with. But, step out a little, where Joe Bloggs and his dog all have websites, and the usefulness of the Internet can quickly be lost.

Over the past wee while, I've been assisting with finding "songs" (e.g. 60's song for somone heading for 60-69 Kg's, etc) - and it has taken me into some of the "lyrics" sites out there. In the past, I ignored the obvious lyrical errors - but now and then, one will reach out and bite (or tickle your funny bone). THIS one was the latter...

One of our members (who, I think is to end up in the 60's) came to my mind - so I checked up on a very well-known song by John Rowles - and WHOA !! How twisted can you get?

The song is "Cheryl Moana Marie" and the people reporting the lyrics (the 8 - 10 that I checked) had "a lovely litle Maui miss I used to know". Hmm, not so bad, as a non-Kiwi could be forgiven for putting Maui instead of Maori - especially when they are listening and transcribing... Not so bad......

...but then came THIS:-

"Some day I'll wade in this land" Huh?? Ever tried "wading in land?" Your feet don't get very wet - could get muddy, perhaps depending on the rainfall

What they SHOULD have written was "Some day our waiting will end". But 9 of the 10 I checked had this absurd "wade in this land" thing. Don't they even READ what they are writing, and think "That CAN'T be right"? Unfortunately, it seems MANY simply COPY OTHERS' ERRORS and perpetuate them - ah well.....

Anyway, I've loved the song for decades - for "a lovely little Maori miss" who is planning to finish in the 60's, THIS would be my pick of 60's songs. Any takers? (yours if you want it, Sonia, you "lovely little Maori miss, you")

Koh

KOH YOOHOOO KOH

Here I am and thankyou so very much. I know the song very well as we did used to sing this song with my mother. She is still a very big John Rowles fan and funny enough he has just toured here on the Gold Coast over the Christmas break. By memory was the song about his daughter?

But you know what Koh just knowing that you guys care enough about me and my journey has bought tears to my eyes

So I will be knocking on your door for an encore performance when I hit the 60's ok.

And Hexi, thank you for the heads up. I really don't look past the diaries and now I will. Cheers

Yay Sonia,

Good to see you "here" too (it's not ALL about kids and knitting )

Quote:

He wrote it for his sister (and he did another song "Tania" for another sister too - both of them younger than him).

But, I've LOVED this song for decades - I always wondered why he didn't become BETTER known world-wide (when in America, I'd ask "Do you know John Rowles?" and they'd say "Do you mean Lou Rawls?" - mind you, Lou Rawls also had a beautiful voice too - so it wasn't a put-down - they just never KNEW John Rowles - such a shame).

Anyway, Sonia, I'm "nostambling" (new word I just invented - a mixture of nostalgia, and rambling ) so I'll stop now and say, I'd love it if you decided to choose this one as YOUR final song (you WILL be in the 60's when you finish, yes?).

Over to you girl - and, can I say, you are so surging with this journey - you'll be finished even before you start at the rate you're going,

Koh

Koh

My dad use to sing this song to me all the time when I was younger because Moana rhymes with my real name and my middle name is Marie. It brings back memories when I listen to it of my childhood in New Zealand.

Happy song hunting

Hi Asy,

Not sure if this is the same one that Damble found, but it's the best I could find.

http://www.nme.com/video/id/lCxWdVJT...rch/humperdink

Hehe - don't worry about the "Humperdink" bit in the title - he has been variously compared to Engelbert, Elvis, Tom Jones, Uncle Tom Cobbley and all - but it is JOHN ROWLES - enjoy...

PS and if you did enjoy him, try this one (also a "biggie" in Aotearoa) - this sounds like the original recording of "Tania" (a song for his youngest sis) which also did pretty well... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akWSS...eature=related
