Vegemite anyone ?
You see I have my crackers as a snack inbetween meals and I was wondering what could you put on them to give them a little kick ? Vegemite sprung to mind and I was going to ask at the clinic but thought I would check in here and see if anyone has asked before me. So vegemite anyone ?

Feel free to ask your clinic but they will more than likely have the same answer. |

Thanks Faithy...
Just got a reply to my email from the clinic and they say NO too. No happy little vegemites... Unless I eat the crackers with my meals they say that there is nothing that you can put on them... other than fruit from your allowance I would assume I will just keep eating them plain I think....but worth the question. Thanks again,

I normally have the crackers with my meals...
But if you are having them in between, the cracked pepper crackers (I think they are vita thingies from Arnotts - they are listed on the program) taste nicer than the others. The other thing you might want to do is use the low fat mayo option as a spread (on my program its a REALLY tiny amount that I can use daily so it would be just a very thin spread) might make them more tasty. But you may want to check with your program/clinic if this is allowed. |

The word on Vegemite - rosy cheeks or chemical disaster ???
Quoted from Judy Davie's book, "Read the Label"...
" Vegemite is made from yeast extract and hydrolysed vegetable protein (containing free glutamates, which act like MSG), and loads of salt. Vegemite also contains the preservative sulfur Dioxide and colouring 150d - known to contain ammonia. 150d is a caramel colouring which can cause gastro-intestinal symptoms and a reduction in white blood cells, where low levels of Vit B6 exist. " so although we may like to have a 'simple' little spread of something, to jazz up an otherwise boring cracker - look at what you potentially are putting into your body. Personally I love the brown sludge, but am opting to avoid it forevermore, based on the list of nasties it contains.

I was going to say too JJ .. that the low fat mayo might be a nice option if you HAVE to have something on them... the cracked black pepper vita weats are pretty good on their own too..
I usually have mine with meals but maybe you could try slicing your fruit & having it on those? Kiwi fruit is actually not too bad on a salada & sliced apple is yummy too.. well to me it is |

Tomatos and melted cheese and zucchini is always nice!
Or eat them with some beef and lettuce like a sandwich

I occasionally have them for breakfast with cottage cheese and sliced tomato. The tomato tends to slide off, but they are very filling.

I like the cracked pepper vita weats. I save them for between meal snacks to get me through the morning or afternoon and as it is my only snack, I have really come to look forward to them and enjoy them

Thanks everyone...I do miss the occasional times that I did have some
But all is cool as I didn't even think about the mayo and I don't normally have that either so this morning I will try that and also slicing my apple really thin to have on the cracker as well. Only thought of it as the kids were having it on toast and I wanted it even more then. Have a great day everyone.

Just thought that I would report in that thinly sliced apple ontop of the crackers is actually nice.....nice change to just plain old crackers. Not the same as vegemite but still quite nice.
I will try the mayo option in the morning now because I also bought some of the cracked pepper vita wheets today. Have also bought some of the new vita wheet snack ones for the kids as they keep eating mine....now if only Arnotts made these in the original or cracked pepper flavour we could almost make some nachos.... Have a great day everyone.

Try a ricecake with sliced mango, or any other soft fruit, Lindy. Peaches and nectarines are lovely when they are in season. Kiwi and pawpaw are okay.
Vegemite actually doesn't have as much salt as you would expect. There's something about the yeast that makes it taste saltier than it actually is. However, wait until you finish to try it again. All those ingredients that Ruby listed are the reason it's not allowed on the diet. AJ

Back again to do it all over again, starting from exactly the same weight as last time. My health is not good and my doctor is predicting all sorts of nasty things if I don't lose weight. Could you sprinkle some vinegar on your salada & then re-bake it? It might taste like a Salt n' Vinegar chip?
