Default HopetoSkrink New Diary

Hi All.

I followed Dr C in September 2008, starting weigh 83.5 and reached my goal of 68Kg, but stupidly did not follow my re-feed! I kept the weight off until 2011 when the weight started to creep back and then I fell pregnant with my first little person, weighing in at 115kg. I was 97kg after my little man was born. This was followed by immigration, new job, new house, new country and in 2015 falling pregnant with my second little person. I was 97kg when I fell pregnant, and with the nutritionist help, only gained 10kg, of which most fell off after baby was born, but weighing in at 98kg again I had to do something. So September 2012 I began Cohen's again, but tried to not weigh my food as much so that I didn't get stressed out with the new baby ect. I would have a tiny bite of a chocolate, or a glass of wine here and there, and the weight did drop and by Christmas 2012 I was 87kg. Following that by July 2017 I was a 82kg, and have not really budged since. On Sunday I decided to go deviation free like my very 1st try at Cohens. I want to weigh 68kg by the 12th of January 2019. That will be my 37th birthday. I am hoping to be around 70kg on the 1st of January so I can start re-feed then. Ironically my start weight is 83.5kg which was my weight during my first successful attempt. I love the programme, and although I have tried 1000's of plans, etc this is the only one which works for me. I just need to stick to it. I read an article a few nights ago which says you have to have a big enough 'why' to see weight loss through, and mine cam two weeks ago when one of my sons friends told him he though I was fat....and my son said No, its just my moms jumper. I don't want him to have to ever deal with a comment like that again. I also want to be a great role model for my little girl and her association with food. I know my goal maybe a bit of a high ask, but I will give it my all. I don't want to waste another year of my life like this.
So wish me luck. I have got my measurements and my start weight, and I will try not weigh for as long as possible.
Food Diary today:
Breakfast: Yogurt & Mango Smoothie with Truvia
Snack:2 Rice cakes
Lunch: Tuna, Cabbage and Mayo salad
Snack: 1 apple and 2 Rice cakes
Dinner:Turkey meatballs and Cauliflower rice

Hi Hope,
Good for you for going again. And yes, having a good "Why?" is paramount.

As you say, that is a tall ask (to be able to start Refeed on 1st Jan). Nothing wrong in having a goal, but it must be one you can control.

Now, you can control some things, inasmuch as you are dictating what you eat, but you really have little control over how quickly this might all happen. So, I do hope you aren't one who "must" meet that goal - those who think that way try to "push things along" (to their detriment) by eating even less when they see they won't meet their "goal".

May I suggest you instead stay as happy as you can, stick to your Plan rules, get good sleep, drink the water, and just LIVE for the next two months. It might be you CAN meet that goal - as those who are younger and those whose fat is "new" will shed it quicker - so, maybe !!

Good luck with it, Hope - and I hope to hear more from you,

Koh

Hi HopetoShrink,

I also did Cohens in 2008! This is my first time back since then and I also have about 15kg left to lose and would love to lose it by January but I am 56 and think a more reasonable timeline would be Feb/March for me.

Good luck and I hope you achieve your goal

Hi Hopetoshrink

Congratulations for taking the step in coming back here and setting goals. I only wish I had found Cohens so much earlier ie when my children were little as I am sure my life would have been more fun by joining in with my children rather than trying to hide and my photo albums would be so much bigger as for me, my self confidence was at my lowest point when I was the biggest.

And as for children, Cohens is easy adapable for families and a great way to teach children on clean eating, and less processed foods without them really knowing - which they will thank you for in the future.

Anyway, you will need to change shortly to "Iamshrining".

Have a good weekend

Thanks so much everyone. I know my goal maybe slightly ambitious, and thanks you for making sure I am on the right path. I think I will, as you say, live the next two months as best I can see how far I can get and reassess my goal in January. I am in it for the long run now and will see this through for the final time. Today I will meal plan for the week. Aiming for chicken stir fry for dinners and tuna/cheese salads for lunch. Today so far I have had mozzarella and baby marrow. Rice cakes for breakfast, subway chicken salad with only good stuff and for dinner I will be having tuna cakes with veggies. Really looking forward to being in the 70’s. Really hope I can before the end of November. With you all well as we head into another week of healthier us!

... I reckon you can/will do that - and with luck, be well into the 70's by the end of November.

Are you one who stays off the scales, or do you check regularly? Dr Cohen says "Weigh monthly" and we respect his advice - but for some people, there might be a way that is better for them - see this link:-

You do what works best for you. Keep smiling, and feel the buzz as this path takes you to where you want to be.

Thank you so much for that Kohinoor, I needed to hear that. When I first did Chen’s I only weighed every month but I had a consultant then. Now I am on my own, making me my worst enemy. So I feel I need to weigh myself just to keep me going. I know the program works and is the only programme which works for me so I just need to stick to it. Yesterday I read my new customer guide just to refresh my memory and already picked up a few oversights on my part. So have rectified these and I immediately saw a lose this morning, so am grateful for the scale as it confirms that no deviation is too small to make a difference. I really need to see this and process through for a final time👧👌. I have a few speed bumps coming up. I got through fireworks at my children’s school deviation free last night. We have bonfire night at our house on Saturday with a BBQ going, and I am baking brownies, but my plan it to simply eat my food and have a coffee or Sprite Zero while everyone enjoys a glass of wine. Next week I am traveling for work for 2 days. I am planning to get some fat free yogurts for the two mornings and simply eat green salad and protein at both other meals. I miss have tongues s based on portion size and stay away from the win or G&T. I travelled a lot when I did this in 2008 so I know I can do this. I am hoping to see a bit more movement on the scales this week. I think I will try and wait to weigh until Sunday as this will make sure I stay good on Saturday. But if I need the affirmation I may need to step on on Friday. I hope you are all doing very well and feeling very motivated. Thank you again for the support.

Really struggling with the lack of movement on the scale! So this morning I measured myself for a bit of motivation. As I expected I have lost 17 cm all round. I am ver pleased with that and my muffin too seems to have disappeared. But it is so weird how me rely on the number on the scale! I hope it does get moving soon as I would like the finish as soon as I can and get as close to my goal as possible before Christmas. I have a day at a conference next Wednsday, a dinner with a friend that Saturday and our office Christmas party the Friday after that. Big temptations coming my way, but I will take each one, one at a time.

Today I am having yogurt and cinnamon, tuna salad and baked fish with asparagus. Getting a bit tired of the fish, so next weeks meal prep maybe steak.

Have a great day everyone

Hi Hope,
In case you hadn't found it already, here's a look at one of our members who weighed daily for the purpose of recording her path. Her chart shows why Doc Cohen says "Only weigh monthly!"

As you can see, there is no certainty of daily weightloss (click on the thumbnail in the post below and see each day's weight - note how AJ could be the same weight, or heavier, over some weeks):-
http://newyouforum.com/forum/showthr...165#post168165

Now, if one were to depend on "seeing daily losses" to remain OK, how soon would they drop off the Plan?

Now we know, the way you used (the tape measure) is a far better way to see your progress. And well done you !!

Rock on, Hope

Koh

Hey, Hope yes weighing to regularly causes a lot of problems I found it is better to measure your waist and other parts of your body than getting on this scale to regularly I find once every two weeks works best for me

Well done Hope! You are in your 70’s and it’s still November
Great thinking! Take one day at a time during those celebrations.
If you see them all together you might get the feeling of deprivation but it’s empowering to say:’ I choose to stay the path and cohens for this meal...’
But your why is strong 💪 so great you do it for yourself and uour kids!!!

Hope you must feel so much better losing the muffin top (and 17cms). I have a little bit to go but it am looking a lot better than before.

Koh I am guilty of daily weighing, mainly because I found it helped me stay on track after doing Cohens last time but I will drag that out to weekly now.

I remember Annabelles struggle with the scales. She had two sets and weighed morning and night. She did so well and her diary was very entertaining.

Good luck Hope with all your celebrations!

Thanks so much everyone!

I have now decided to also try and weigh every week, for my sanity. People are starting to comment on the change, so something is definitely working. I also had a look around the forum and found a thread that said no whole egg mayo....and of course mine is, not knowing, so no Mayo for me for two days and the scale has moved.
Feeling really positive and hoping I can be just under 75 by Christmas!

Hope everyone is doing very well this week.
Will keep you all updated.

Great job that you found that little culprit...
I remember when I was on plan I took vitamin C because I got so many colds while on the program and would not lose any weight until I finally found out that there was some fruit extract in the Vit C, after I stopped it the weight fell off again.

Hoping with you that you get under 75 ....
how are you feeling?

Are you planning to go right through christmas on plan?

Hi Greeni.

Thank you for your post. My plan is to get to Christmas, and perhaps have a plan on how to get through Christmas day. It will be hard, as I am at my brother for Christmas, which means he will pull out all the stops. I have also been asked to bake all our tradition goodies....nightmare! So I am trying to prepare myself for the day. I aim to go about it like every other day, but will see what he is planning to cook. Hopefully its Turkey, which makes its all so much easier. At this stage I feel I can control all the other engagements leading up to that day. Wednesday I have a conference, but plan to take my precooked meals, incase there is no salad and chicken option. Saturday dinner with my friend, I am pushing for a steak house. Work Christmas party, I have preorded the fish, so hoping that will help, and aim to smply not touch the alcohol. I feel like when I prepare myself mentally for the days I can get through them just fine. So far I am 6 weeks deviation free, so just need to carry on with the momentum. I have to see this through for the final time!

Hi Hope,
Welcome back again. I just re-read the earlier posts in your diary, and was concerned to find that a link I'd referred you to is now missing the all-important graph of AJ. The link is there, but it doesn't work for me today - i.e. the graph doesn't show.

Suffice to say that (my recollection of her graph) her weight would sometimes not drop for a whole week, and at times she would even gain some weight in a week. But overall the trend line was down, down and, looking from afar, it appeared almost a "straight line" from start to finish. What would happen is that, at times, the weightloss would go on hold while the body "reshaped things" then the weightloss would recommence, often with a huge drop to "make up for lost time".

So if you do weigh daily, use it only as "data" - you will find that, if you stick to the Plan, you will likely experience what AJ did too. Be happy, stick to the Plan, and eat your way to good health by staying within the rules and all will be good.

Koh

Thank you so much Kohinoor.
That is exactly what I needed to hear today, especially 'Be happy, stick to the Plan, and eat your way to good health by staying within the rules and all will be good'.

It going ok so far. Had a a decent month, but with a lot of travel! Have a couple more months of consistency now, which hopefully will get me moving on the plan a bit more.

Is there somewhere I can look to find any new additions to permitted foods? e.g. is broccoli now allowed?
