My NYF Diary
Default How quickly am I likely to lose weight?

A perennial question for sure - specially on here.

Some posts can give some clues - I'll post a few links further down.

Suffice to say, MANY things can dictate how well YOU will go !! Things like - your age, your sex, your health, your commitment, how well you used to eat, etc. Here's a link that gives an idea. See how you fit with this :-

As well as that, Andy started 3 polls that ask for people to vote as they pass the 4, 8, and 12 week marks.

With some time now passed, these give some interesting statistics. e.g.

the Average weight lost in 4 weeks is 8 - 9 Kgs
the Average weight lost in 8 weeks is 14 - 15 Kgs
the Average weight lost in 12 weeks is 20 - 21 Kgs

That is what these polls show TODAY !! Will it change? Hmm, possible, but maybe unlikely to shift too much more.

Certainly, a few more voters in the 8 and 12 week polls is desirable so, if you haven't already voted on any of these, please DO !! They won't let you vote twice - so, if you see a "Vote now" button, then you haven't already voted.

Also, in case you are thinking "I didn't lose as much as others, so I won't vote!" all I want to say is "Please vote anyway!" The idea of these polls is to be as accurate as possible (not as awesome as possible ).

For those that seem to "be slower than most others of similar sex, age, health", other variables include your previous diet. If you were generally healthy, and ate well, your path might be slower than one who "ballooned up" quickly due to a poor diet. And no, you are not being penalised for having eaten healthily - if you hadn't done that, you may well have an extra 30Kgs to shift !!

In short, MANY things impact - as I stumble over each one, I'll attempt to add them. Main thing is "You will shed weight according to how Doc Cohen believes you should for your situation."

Edited later:- I found out tonight (April 2010) that the following sentence in Red may be WRONG !!
Like, if you say you "exercise regularly" when applying, the good Doc will likely allow EXTRA food to allow for this - then YOU might choose to NOT exercise once on Plan. Hmm, what do you think that will do?

I thought it was correct, based on what I have read, off and on, over the last 3 years on here. Tonight, I got it straight from Asy - Doc Cohen DOES NOT KNOW if you do/don't exercise. I'm leaving the sentence above as a warning (and so that you don't think you are going mad - "Koh said I get more food because I exercise" kind of thing) Yes I have/had said that - incorrectly ...... or is it? See this next bit....
Caveat : (added Jun 2012) I stumbled over some of "Asy's words in print" today that indicate that Dr Cohen has SOME clue that might have him allowing extra food after all - read her words, and see what you think.

In there, Asy says ....
Quote:
If you were doing a 5k run a day prior to starting, that would have shown up in your blood tests prior, and will have been taken into account...
Will that "taking into account" lead to more food for you? Hmm, pass !! But, though Dr Cohen is NOT told of any exercise regime per se, it appears the bloods might show something that could alter your Plan somewhat... which was my original intent in commenting on "what you might change once on Plan" which could lead to a poorer result.

Moving on, here's the links to those polls :-

Weight lost in 8 weeks

Weight lost in 12 weeks

Hope it helps - either in convincing you to "join up", or to help you understand some of the "variables" that affect how you are going.

Koh

PS If you want to feel GOOD about your "slow" weight loss, perhaps consider others (on other plans) that come nowhere near what is possible on Cohens - e.g. Pandora posted (sorry, no link) about a lady that was "over the moon" for losing 36Kgs in TWO years - approx 350g a week!!

I haven't "done" Cohens - Asy knows me from way back - she invited me to "take a look" here - I did, loved it, and stayed...
And me? I'm a tall skinny-ish bloke (BMI ~25.5) and have been this way forever, so I haven't faced (weight-wise) what you all have !!
