Default Private Health Rebates

Hi All,
Just getting myself organised to start and wanted to know if anyone was with Medibank Private and managed to get a rebate through them ? They appear to offer a rebate for other programs but the "lovely" chappy that I spoke to this afternoon on the phone was not very helpful at all. Any help would be great...Thanks Lindy.

Medibank Private will give you a rebate if you have their "REWARDS PACKAGE" programme.

Ask your clinic, they should have a copy of a letter from Medibank explaining how to claim, which, I believe you can take into your Medibank office and it will help you claim.

hey i know this was posted a while ago but, i just called my clinic asked them if they have that form, they said they dont know anything about it, they dont have anything to do with giving us any information, Dr cohen is not aknowledged in australia as a doctor also so you cant put him as a doctor on the forms.

just wondering who has actually been sucessful getting any money back from medibank. i have the top of the range service, i know that i have $250 worth of rewards per annum...

I'm with GMHBA and I couldn't get any rebate and I have top cover. I even wrote to the review board. They told me I have to be seeing a dietician.
Goodluck.

I posted this info ages ago as I was able to get a $50 rebate from MBF.
You need to get a letter from your GP that he/she recommends that you start a weight loss program for whatever medical reason.
MBF told me at the time you only need this letter once for any subsequent refunds.
You can only get this rebate once a year, but better than nothing huh?
Can be used for gym memberships too!
I used to get money back from visits to WW too years ago!
Hope this helps?
Cya from me xo

Hi all,

I just wanted to update my info since others have been asking. I have the top cover with Medibank Private and the answer for the rebate with them is no. In order to obtain the rebate with them you must be a registered Dr or dietician here in Australia. Stupid really when you consider that they will rebate for things like the gym membership and similar.

Rebate or no rebate Cohens has been the best program anyway.

I didnt get a rebate with HBA but Im not too fussed. I think that after 6 weeks on the plan I have paid the cost off by not going out 5 out of 7 nights for dinner and drinks.

I agree with Ronky, my family was spending at least $100 per week on eating out and takeaways. Since Cohens, I have saved so much and this has easily paid for the program for my daughter and myself -$1500 total.

I only just rang my health fund AHM yesterday and they only cover WW & Jenny Craig..........interesting. I agree with HBS and Ronky though I have already paid my program over a few times by going without takeaways etc!!!!!!

Hi All

I know this post is old - but I just wanted to share that I just got $100 back with MBF.

No questions asked - was pretty stoked with that!

But I agree with Ronky above, the program has given me more than what I have paid for already.

Default medibank private

Medibank Private say they need a 'provider number' in order to provide any benefit and wont even give any package bonus $$$ toward it either.

Pretty silly really, I'm sure weight watchers doesn't have a provider number and I bet Cohens has a higher success rate than WW (i think i've joined 5 times).

From what I know about my health fund (Australian Unity), they only rebate WW, JC & Sureslim.
They offer $100 at start up, and $100 once you reach goal weight - and the clinic needs to sign a health fund form.
Absolutely NO refund for the Cohen program...

I am with NIB and they won't offer any rebate for Cohen's either...but they do offer $200.00 off Sureslim with the level of cover that I currently have.

I checked into this when I was deciding to go ahead with either SureSlim or Cohens, and after reading this forum and doing a bit of google research about Cohens, decided that it is worth every cent from all the positive accounts about Cohens.

.....if I lose all 50kg through Cohens and manage to maintain my goal weight then this program is worth so much more to me than just $750. It is my general health, emotional well-being, overall healthier lifestyle & the ability to buy cheaper clothes [and stylish with a MUCH wider range ]

Default Medibank Private

It seems only MBF pays. I also contacted Medibank Private & as some of you have stated - only JC and WW rebated. Bonus Package no go either.

Basically to have a provider number you have to register with the Health Insurance Commision in Australia to enable access to 'item numbers'. Dr. Cohen has to be registered with HIC to have a provider number. I would think not worth it! I am from a dental background and you can have top cover, but the health fund sets what you get paid. i.e. I charge you $80 for a say a clean, your health fund pays back $30 to you - it is at their discretion.

I have written a letter to Medibank Private to raise the issue; even tho Dr.Cohen isn't a registered provider, there are huge issues in Australia with obesity and they are a 'health' fund! No reward for loosing weight and taking the burden off the health system by looking after our health and identifying we have to loose weight! See how that goes but I ain't holding my breath! Medibank is the largest insurer; you would think they would spread the love and not just list JC and WW.

I reckon for $750.00 and having a program that is researched, supported with proven results - whats a few hundred dollars?! AND it is food, no pasty, powdery shakes, real fresh food! We are saving so much in the long term by loosing weight hey!!

As I said in an earlier post, Medibank Private WILL rebate you something if you have the Package Bonus stuff. If you ring them and they say no, contact the Brisbane Cohen's Clinic and ask them to email you a copy of the medibank letter, then you can show it to MP and they should pay up...
