Default A couple of questions regarding resetting and detoxing

Hello to everyone,

As I posted earlier today in the new members section, I am currently on day 8 of my refeed and have only just found the forum! Wish I knew about it earlier but better late than never I guess.

As I head into maintenance, I have 2 questions about resetting or losing weight in the future and also using the diet as a detox.

If for example you wanted to lose 2-3 kg you may put on after refeed and you did a week on the old plan, does the weight stay off? I had 2 deviations (big mistake!) during the 5 mths in phase 1 and would quickly lose the 2 kgs I put on after each deviation but obviously you would put that down to going back to the plan.

When resetting for a week, if you go back to the old plan and then afterwards go back to eating normally (following maintenance rules) does the loss you have made tend to stay off or will it only work if you do the 2 weeks + refeed?

Another question (sort of related to the above) is that I feel so great right now I am thinking that doing a week (on the old plan or refeed) every quarter is probably a great detox as most detoxes also cut out alcohol, dairy, sugar, refined carbs, processed foods and also caffeine. Is it ok to use the old plan or refeed as a sort of detox or should it only be used specifically with weight loss in mind.

Just wondering if anyone has an knowledge or personal experience they can share on either of the 2 questions above.

Lindy

There is no need to detox ever. If you are conscious of what you put into you mouth. There wont be a need to do it. Yeah, we can go back on the progamme for a week but I find, like most, if I just eat cohen friendly the majority of the time (I never weigh my foods but I do eat unprocessed foods anytime I can control what goes onto my plate and across my lips. When I can't I find that a return to cohen friendly (without the weighing) usually in a couple of days (3 or 4) will put me back to a range that I'm happy with. I fluctuate normally from 69 to 72 kg with 69 to 71 being where I generally stay (I finished the programme at 69kg which was the bottom of my range. I stay in that range for the most part with only the occasional going over (one of those times where I'm not in a position to control what I eat short of not eating). I don't worry about it too much as I know it's only temporary and my return to type will see me back to normal inside of a week. There are things I no longer eat as I know that they are not good for me and I'm fine with that as I like my 31" Jeans a lot more than I liked those foods!

SMS, you are absolutely right about not having to detox if you're eating Cohen's friendly food. In the past I have tried to do a detox programme for a week every quarter because it made me feel great...actually, much like I have felt ever since doing Cohen's! Hadn't really looked at it that way so thanks for pointing that out.

Also great to know that any increases can be corrected just by going strictly back to original or refeed food without having to weigh everything again. Hopefully I won't have to resort to that too often.

Thanks for your reply.

If you pardon my opinion while being about 2kg out from ordering my refeed, (and very excited about this next stage) there is room to move within Cohens prescription ingredients, and healthier choices can be made with the variety offered to us.

Artificial sweeteners and caffeine are always good to have a break from.

Eating raw food has it's benefits as well. There's plenty of information and websites available about this style of eating that would work well with Cohens.

Once you hit maintenance you can do anything you want. There are specific reasons that the choices available to us while on the programme or or refeed are limited. A number of foods that are good for us (in the broader sense of the word) are not good for what Dr. C is ultimately attempting to accomplish.

We must always remember that there are 27 years of study that have gone into the creation and fine tuning of this programme. A good example of what I'm talking about is capsicum for instance. Green is okay. Orange/Yellow or Red is not. Why? they have ripened longer or there are some other chemicals/sugars in them that are detrimental to one of several things that he is trying to accomplish. It could be something that could cause hunger/craving in some or slow weight losses down in others. There are so many variables and the lists of foods are those that the good doctor has found "safe" for the programme in the broader sense. If we try to second guess the professional, we may screw up something that is controlling something in the HGH, or triggering adverse insulin responses or serotonin levels. It's easier just to put 100% faith in the programme and let Dr C weave his magic. You will lose and the optimum rate for your body while gaining optimum benefits along the way. Sounds good to me! Worked great for me.
