Default New and kinda dissapointed

Hi there,

I started awhile back, and got really sick (tonsilitis and chest infection) I stuck to cohens for a few days while sick and had to go off as it was just too hard while soooo sick.

I have not been able to stick to it since then! I need serious help and get NONE from my clinic.

When I signed up they promised emails, calls etc but I have not heard from them since they received my money. I have tried to call several times esp when I was sick and they DO NOT return my calls. I feel so disspointed that I paid $800 for no support . To me $800 is a hell of a lot of money.

I know this program works as I lost 6 kilos in the 2 weeks before I got sick! I was stoked!

What can I do to get back into this agin...helllppp! And what can I do about my slack clinic?

Your thoughts ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jazz...

Mmm, I am not too sure what to do about your clinic *sigh

Have you been keeping up with your blood tests? If you were supposed to?

I mainly use the forum for support... perhaps you can too!

So, you are having trouble getting back into it? What kind of trouble? Being too hungry??

Best wishes,

Missy

Hey Jazz,

So sorry to hear that - your Cohen beginnings is similar to mine. I started the programme (although not officially - clinic-approved), but got malaria two weeks in. Had to abandon it because I was too sick to prepare food on my own, and people were making sure I had porridge, etc. all kinds of carbs.

Have you also e-mailed them? Because phone calls are not enough, you need to have some record that you have tried to get in contact. My consultant has been good in getting back to me promptly - I e-mail her with all kinds of questions.

As for support - I find this forum a huge help because people here are going through the same programme as me. I see my consultant more of 'technical help' rather than emotional help.

Best of luck! Don't give up. Keep writing in, start a diary, etc. As you would read through the forums, most of us don't really rely on our consultants for support - we have each other.

HI Jazz,

Just as with any service you have a right to receive what you paid for. In the specific case of Cohens you have a consumer right to service. Perhaps you need to be very assertive yet also respectful. If I were in your position this is what I would do. Of course it is up to you how you handle it and I am replying without knowing all the facts or the clinics version of the story.

I would immediately write them an email spelling out very clearly, matter of factly ( leave out the emotion) how you see the situation.

Dates and times are good. eg On such and such a day I paid this much and had my blood tests done on this day. Give your history including those times when you contacted them and did not have your calls returned. Acknowledge where they have done the right thing and have been supportive. Then clearly state your illness. Then set out what you would like them to do now. eg: I would appreciate you contacting me weekly by phone, email etc or whatever it is you want. State clearly your initial success and the fact that you are now struggling and feel that you need their support.

Depending on their response there are a number of ways to proceed however at least you have the clarity of knowing what they are willing to provide and they know what you expect.

My experience of Cohens is that unless you ask for help they assume you are alright. I think it is about being in control of our own journey. I have also experienced that many of us, who have been overweight, are not good at asking for help or at stating our needs. Cohens can provide you with an opportunity to practise both. It is important to deal with your own emotional response to this. Is it a common theme in your life that you feel unsupported? If so, then this is an opportunity to change that pattern.

Don't forget also. You did not give the time period this happened in but over Christmas when clinics are closed and very busy before and after sometimes things and people just get lost in the system. Now is the time to address it with your clinic. I am very hopeful that an explicit email to them with your expectations will bring a positive response.

In the meantime - you may like to read this thread which may explain very simply what is happening in your body. I know it helps me.

Enjoy the journey.

Hi Jazz.. I am exactly like you with the once i started to deviate, i didnt stop.. Now, I have a calender drawn up (made it on the computer, with the dates, not days) and i have an agreement with my fiance that for every 7 days i am deviation free i get $10 to go into a piggy bank type thing for me for when i am at maitance.. I even have different coloured textas to cross off the dates. if i deviate then i lose $10... (i had 40 for non deviation, then deviated 2 days in a row, so i lose $20 [$10 for each day])

Maybe even set urself little goals, and when u reach it then u get a little reward.

Not sure about the clinic, though if u need support, we here on the forum are always here for ya. Have a diary, and u can write anything in there. I personally have a rant about EVERYTHING at least once a month..
