Milk and "Minus Protein"
1. Do I have to have the milk during the meal that I subtract the old protein from? Or can I subtract the 40g from my Meal 2 protein portion and have milk with Meal 3? 2. Towards the later days of Refeed, it says to subtract a certain amount of "old protein". If I want milk, do I subtract 40g on top of that? i.e. Old (Original) Protein Portion = 500g meat If I want to have milk, less 40g = 460g meat Plan calls for less 80g old protein = does it now become 380g meat or 420g meat?

Re: Milk and "Minus Protein"
In the later days you will notice that you get some new protein right? So you take away the old protein and add in the new protein. I interpreted as that Milk can be taken at a different meal than what you subtract your protein from. for instance if you want to have egg and coffee for breakfast you would take 40g off your meal 2 or meal 3. or 20g off of both.I did the milk like one or two times, found out it wasn't something that I missed so just went back to black.

Re: Milk and "Minus Protein"
Hi glt
Refeed is complex. From posts I have read, lots of people just use milk in tea or coffee ie small amounts over the day, not necessarily eg a bowl of cereal and milk, or a glass of milk as a drink. Refeed #1 I tried to adjust meals across the day. Way too complicated Refeed #2 I simply did all the adjustments for Meal #2, and had a simple Meal #1 and Meal #3 each day. As I work from home, putting the focus on Meal #2 worked best for me. I will probably do the Meal #2 routine this time, too, just to be able to keep track of it all. Using your example, I would say that if you add a substitute protein, don't exceed the daily amount of protein no matter how the sums add up So if milk reduces other proteins, then if you have included milk you have reduced other proteins. If you are adding in milk plus another 'new' protein then you would continue to reduce the 'old' protein by the overall amount Good questions and another reason why taking a bit of time and care with refeed is really worth the effort Cheers Kristine |

Re: Milk and "Minus Protein"
Thanks CC and Kristine! Really need to plan refeed out. I am sufficiently confused!

Re: Milk and "Minus Protein"
GLT, I think you don't have to abide by the 5 hour rule for proteins by the time you are adding milk, so you can have it anytime, and I believe you subtract it off you old protein - you need to get used to the new proteins.
hope this helps! |

Re: Milk and "Minus Protein"
Hi GLT, I picked up my refeed plan today, and it all seems to revolve around totals for the day rather than the meals. So, for example, if on your old plan you had 200g chicken for lunch and 200g steak for dinner (400g total protein a day), and refeed said take 50g old protein out and 50g new protein in, you just have to stick to the total of 400g a day but use different meats. As to the milk, you would end up with only 360g total meat protein in a day to account for adding in the milk (which you could have any time of day)
