Default New Proteins?

Hi All

I was wondering what you include as new proteins - I know the refeed book says

MEAT: any meat with no fat (not processed meats such as ham) BUT isn't bacon ok? I asked my clinic and they said no - I didn't think bacon was considered processed? Maybe I am wrong....

FISH: Any fish or seafood (not processed fish fingers, fishcakes etc)

POULTRY: Any part of chicken or turkey (no skin)

MILK: Low fat milk in place of old protein...and Soya Milk can be used.

Does the Soya Milk have to be low fat? It makes no mention of this...

For meat, I used chicken drumsticks, chicken wings and chicken thighs. Also, lamb and non lean red meat, and corn beef cooked at home.

I think bacon is smoked, therefore it's processed.

I didn't use soy milk, so can't help you there.

Hey Hexi...I am still a bit confused about the refeed new proteins as well. I am thinking I'll be eating a lot of Salmon, Lamb and Pork Loin. That's what I've been craving...dark meat chicken sounds good too. But can you get it already boneless? Not sure about that...it might be too hard to figure out how much to cook.

I don't really know Shell...I will have to check. I have mostly been a white meat girl. Also, maybe they have that in dark turkey meat too...I will keep an eye out for that as well...good thinking.

I'm so looking forward to a new variety of proteins.

Yes I am definately going for the chicken thigh fillets - they are JUST THE BEST! Especially in a curry - they are fattier than the breast but much more tender - yum, yum...I find the breast is pretty 'dry' GO THE THIGHS! (New protein)

Towards the end I ended up having mainly chicken thighs & chicken breats.. it got to difficult for me having lamb & then either chicken or whatever.. & whilst lamb has ALWAYS been my favourite meat now it just hurts my tummy .. So I'm a sad panda.. but with the chicken I could just mixx it up with both & it seemed to go down a little easier.

Am bumping this up - would like to know what Cohen-nites do for new proteins, particularly if you don't have access to a kitchen (i.e. travelling)

The above poster mentioned corn beef (I LOVE) and am wondering whether if others have tried this before for refeeding? I've just shot an e-mail to my consultant on this, but would like to hear any thoughts on this if possible.

Anxiously waiting to start refeed but holding off till I am absolutely sure I can do refeed without deviating (i.e. adding new proteins while travelling),

Hi LM,
I think corned beef would have too many additives and salt for refeed.

i have made my own corned beef when i had a farm. it is high in salt but this could be cooked out. i would not trust shop bought..so if you can make your own....or talk to your butcher about their process ( stay away from prepackaged sliced)

RachyF

As you do the refeed program, you get to a point where you can once again mix proteins. having said that there are some of us who's bodies don't cope well with mixing proteins ( me for example) .... so I rarely eat more than one type in a meal.

Are new cheeses added? I'm loving my weekly pizza but mozzarella is so expensive!
Are we allowed 'normal' cheese eg. colby, edam etc?

Hey there Thumbelina.

Cheese doesn't change during refeed. So you'll have a bit longer with the mozz. I am loving mixing proteins. I haven't had a bad mix yet. My worst new protein was a little bit of milk in a cup of tea last night. My body didn't like it. I don't think I will do it again on refeed.
