Throat Lozenges - help!!!
And so i'm putting it out there and asking the wider NYF community about throat lozenges. I've had 2 doses of the worst strep throats in recent weeks......one still active and I'm on antibiotics......but, what I'd like to know is, for the relief of the pain in my throat, are there any lozenges that are relatively Cohen's friendly. I've been having bucket loads of butter menthol.....yes i know the worst kind, but they help, dramatically, but for the next couple of days I'll still need to use them. Does anyone have any ideas about what alternatives I could use. They need ot be the soothing kind, I tried a strepsil.......and they burned.....badly. Would love any ideas....... |

Re: Throat Lozenges - help!!!
So sorry to hear your throat isn't improving yet
The only one I was told was approved by my consultant was the sugar-free strepsil. Dunno if you tried that or another one but if it burns, FORGET IT!!! Hope you have some help with the kids while you feel so bad. |

Re: Throat Lozenges - help!!!
Hi Collie,
Try betadine throat gargle - it is really good for sore throats. Also salt gargles. I found some natural lozenges called Throat Clear - it was not 100% cohens but as you say, health first. I also like cepacol - they have a sort of numbing affect on the throat. Once again not 100% cohen's friendly but helpful when you are suffering. I think that the main thing is if you do need to have something that is not 100% cohens that you then don't tell yourself that it is ok to have other things off program and have it as a licence to eat things that you shouldn't. If you have the odd lozenger or similar and isolate it to that, your damage will be minimal - a couple of days longer on the program. You could use your lemon as your fruit allowance and have lots of nice lemon drinks (use the flesh too). Use fresh ginger from some of your vege allowance to grate and make hot drinks. Otherwise, lots of warm water drinks made a huge difference. Easier to drink warm water than cold water when your throat is sore. I hope this helps Butterfly xx |

Re: Throat Lozenges - help!!!
Thanks guys, very helpful.....
Butterfly, yes I agree, it's so easy to think that Oh well, if i'm doing something off the plan than to do other things outside the plan too....... Lucky I'm sticking to my guns in other ways......yoghurt 2/3 times a day, depending on how much I can stomach, and I did actually get through my cracker allowance just to have something that will help me to keep those antibiotics down.......they tend to be those nauseating ones.....anyway, so far, so good for that...... Keeping up the water too.....it does help. Hurts a bit less than the air going past with every breath!! |

Re: Throat Lozenges - help!!!
Hi Collie, I have strep throat also and know that razor blade feeling in the throat as you try to eat or drink or breathe ...... I am also on a course of antibiotics and have been using Cepacaine Solution which is a gargle and it provides some temporary relief from the pain .... has a numbing effect. Hope that helps. Sending you feel better vibes !
