Default New member heya!!

Hi everyone newbie here..decided to start on Cohens as ive just had enough of being obese..i guess what triggered me to take action was when i did my fasting glucose and it was 8.3mmol/l. Diabetes runs in my family and ive seen or im still seeing what it does to my mom even though shes not overweight, shes opposite really. I also have PCOS as you do LOL and have been trying for a baby for 7 years and i think it may all related to my fluctuating hormones. started on Monday at 137.9 and now have gone down to 134.1. Is that a normal expected drop? Also are we allowed to have sugarfree chocolates or biscuits? I know we cant take anything thats not in the plan but just thought id ask Have a good day Y'all

Oh btw on Monday i deviated towards the end of my day and chomped down a packet of M&Ms like a total pig so im kinda shocked that i still lost weight. Also anyone from Melbourne here?

Hi COC,

When did you start? You may want to add a ticker on to your signature... Instructions are on the tope part of the new members forum, I believe.

No, sugar free ANYTHING such as sweets and bicuits are not allowed. It's not su much the sugar, but the carbs you would be ingesting... Try your best not to deviate! It'll really help you in the long run. You wouldn't go and down a whole bottle of meds right? Though for the plan: Food is your medication!

Hi I started on Monday the 20th ..its really hard with the chocolate cravings ive been having...the chromium is helping but the hardest time is when hubby gets home from 6-8pm. I will try and figure this ticker thing out.

Your deviation is early enough so that hopefully, if you stay deviation free, it may not skew your results too much. You can do it... Busy yourself with outher things, stay on the forum... You will get through it, and as all of us know, first week is the worst with cravings and hunger pangs... Once your body gets used to it, it WILL get easier... Once you start with the willpower to say NO, it gets easier to say NO to other "bad" foods.

Hey COC!

I am also scared of Diabetes and have PCOS too!

As Michie said try your hardest not to deviate... The longer you stay Deviation Free the easier it becomes. You need to strengthen your resistance muscle and it gets easier and easier to say no!!

You might want to consider reading the "Becks Diet" book... It's a bit of a bible

Really helps you understand that hunger is not an emergency. When you feel yourself craving food (no matter what it is, just more food or choc) remind yourself that you will survive if you don't give in! It's not an "end of the world" scenario. When you get the craving, make yourself a cup of tea (something minty, like peppermint or green tea w/ mint). It helps take your mind off the craving.

Honestly, once you start seeing results you will be SO impressed! If you managed a nice drop even with deviation, imagine what it could have been without deviating!!! First week is always big, so it's no surprised you still lost regardless of the deviation, but after the first weeks a deviation can cost you "no loss" or even a gain. It's SO NOT worth it!!

You can do it!!!!

I am from Melbourne, by the way!!

Hi Michie and Doll
thank you so much for the support it really makes a difference. I think the hardest part is hubby is trying to put on weight and i am trying to lose weight but he said to me yesterday that he would not eat any chocolate products in front of me (hes a chocoholic too but with high metabolism)..so thats helps too... I have not deviated since..starting cohens made me realise i could still eat my favourite foods in moderation. My usual staples are rice and noodles and ive discovered from this forum cauliflower 'rice' and enoki mushroom 'noodles' and guess what I actually get full from them. I dont need these carbs to satisfy my hunger pangs. I had to buy hubby's dinner tonight and drove past KFC and bought him a sundae from Mcdonalds and I did not even feel the urge of deviating (as it is Junk Friday, something we always do). That should be a good sign shouldnt it? Reading this forum every single night really motivates me and keeps me focused. I am also enjoying watching what i put into my meals which i never used to care about. Just hope it stays this way. I have chosen also not to measure myself but to just go by how my clothes feel. So let us see how this goes. My DREAM: to have kids, stop having people look at me in disgust when im out and basically to live a long and healthy life.

Just a question too ladies:
With tomatoes is that part of our vege allowance as mine states we can have up to 1 tomato a day
Also with the sweeteners mine states up to 5 satchets of splenda. What about other sweeteners do they also have the 5 satchet limit?
Finally, i seem to have loose bowels since i started Cohens is that normal? Im thinking maybe my body is not used to all the veges and water ive been taking. LOL

Have a great day guys and I know i can do this but just a matter of working on my

Hey there CHC!

Congratulations on your decision to go with Cohens. Like the others have said, try hard not to deviate its true that the longer you don't the easier it is.
Tomato is in the vegetable category.
Read through your plan carefully re your sweetener some types are not allowed.

You will do really well and you will be amazed at your first weigh in.

Welcome! im not sure im going to call you COC! but maybe Chocy ... oh wait thats worse for me

Congrats on taking the plunge and doing this. I too am a chocoholic. and an even bigger cake-o-holic. But you know what... cake and chocolate isnt going anywhere. They are going to still be there at the end of your time in the slammer. Thats how i view this to make it easier on myself - im locked away for 3-5 months and there simply is no sneaking food in. Lil-dols explanation of a resistance muscle is quite appropriate - i never even thought about it but its so true. Im in week 4 now and i just dont want to ruin my deviation free streak, not even by 1 gram. This is such a giant task we have all undertaken, i cannot and do not want to handle guilt on top of it ,so why cheat. You'll start to see that very soon.

What is not going to be there in 4-5 months ?- 4-5 extra months of trying for a baby and being healthy. We have baby plans too for end of the year but i wouldnt dare put a baby in this dirty body. I need to spring clean inside here first !

Re your questions
First week i had plentiful BM's, 2nd week i sorta got constipated lol. It sorts itself out after about 3 weeks i think.
Tomato is 1 per day but only half a tomato per meal (thats what my book says )
My book specifies Sucaryl only ( maybe that is a NZ thing. In any case i avoided Equals just in case)

Look forward to seeing your ticker and diary !!

Hey cho (I am the same as nutmeg... I don't want to even mention 'choc' haha)

Nutmeg is right about the tomoato issue, and yep they are heavy!!

Your body is probably having a little clean out- hence the 'loose' BMs. It should all sort itself out!!

I use hermesetas sugar tablets. http://www.hermesetas.com/

I do limit them, but I am not 'super strict'... I don't really count them!
