Re: Tips for avoiding the Deviation Demon
Butterfly what a wonderful list (and very timely ... thank you). You have made things very clear and I salute your mindset. Secretly I think you are really some kind of sage or guru who nods wisely enlightening people whilst sitting cross legged on some mountain.
Just brilliant stuff! |

Re: Tips for avoiding the Deviation Demon
My coach and I are working on a dream board. It has my before and progress photos on it, a photo of me when I was at goal last time, a photo of my old very large bras next to one of a small sexy bra, my chart with my weights and measurements, pictures of clothes I would like to wear etc. it is right next to my ensuite door so I see it every time I go to the loo. It inspires me to make the right choices and helps me when I am feeling tired and over the strictness. I see how far I have come and I see things I need to get where I need to be.
My hubbie also sees it and knows how I'm progressing. I'm sure it reinforces to him too that I'm serious about my health and prevents him bringing out the snacks things at night - always a danger period for us both! |

Re: Tips for avoiding the Deviation Demon
my biggest tip - get straight onto the keyboard and tap away the deviation desire...open up your diary and keep typing until it is gone.. belive me, it works..it is exactly how I got through my issues
say to yourself "hunger is not an emergency - it will pass" |

Re: Tips for avoiding the Deviation Demon
I know it seems counter intuitive but I tend to prep future meals to pop in the freezer and snacks that take time like apple slice or gingerbread so they are ready for next time.
I find that just doing something with food is enough to keep me satisfied plus keeps the fridge and freezer stocked with cohens friendly meals and snacks. I also have post-it notes with my weight in 500g increments down to my goal weight (64, 63.5, 63, 62.5 etc..) on my bathroom mirror. Every time I weigh in, ripping off those post-its makes the weightloss even more real and is a great feeling.

Re: Tips for avoiding the Deviation Demon
Gemsta, like you I keep plenty on meals frozen, at least a weeks worth! I'm hungry when I get home, and I can be a bit like Homer Simpson at the microwave saying why does it take so long! lol. Knowing that's my danger time, and knowing the food is there ready means I don't shove just anything in my mouth. And this has been beneficial when I've suddenly had to go out, the meals are there.
I love your idea of post it notes. I keep my current weight, how much I've lost, and how far I have to go on my phone, and look at it FREQUENTLY. I remind myself how much I paid for this program. I remind myself how concerned I was for my health before I started. I enjoy Dr Cohen holding the reins for the moment, there's something 'safe' about that, and I always wanted someone to just tell me what I could and couldn't eat and how much. All the guess work has been taken out of the equation and now there's just success. blind faith - it works, and I want it to continue to work 1 deviation = 1 week...too expensive trying on clothes looking at myself in the mirror and liking what I see |

Re: Tips for avoiding the Deviation Demon
Hi everyone! I'm only on my second week, and I wanted to ask though how you guys deal with deviation temptation? I'm always so tempted to deviate, but not to eat the things I can't now. I'm tempted to not eat all. I've really lost my appetite to the point that the temptation is to skip meals or to eat less than what is allotted for the meal. Any advice? o.0

Re: Tips for avoiding the Deviation Demon
Not eating your meals will not make you loose faster, it will send your body into starvation mode and you will loose more slowly...the plan is structured to balance your hormones, not eating will not allow you to reach that balance, you won't be able to do refeed and and you will regain the weight VERY quickly, and probably more.
Has that scared you enough? LOL If it's simply a matter of not being hungry, then just set your meal times and eat regardless. It worth it to do it right, set you mind to getting it right...and do it, you paid for the plan, your worth it...xxx |

Re: Tips for avoiding the Deviation Demon
Peppermint tea has been my rock from deviating. I am an all or nothing person, but keeping momentum has always been a problem for me in anything I do. the lastfew days i have just felt like pigging out for no reason. it is great reading re feed diaries, because it all happens then.

Re: Tips for avoiding the Deviation Demon
Saypuen... I like to think of the food as my medicine... Would you skip taking your medicine prescribed to you?
This program works as a whole and you need to follow all the rules! I am sure your program has the golden rules (mine does) and I am sure one of them is to eat every meal prescribed! As for actually how to do it... Make your meals as appetising as you can. Don't scrimp on the good stuff! I use the best cuts of meat I can find... And once I know what I like- I stick to it!

"I harnessed that sense of control and the mental peace and well being it brought to me was priceless. It stopped me feeling deprived and grateful that there was one thing I was in charge of and that was treating myself with respect and kindness"
I love this! It's going to help me keep going. Thank you!! |

Re: Tips for avoiding the Deviation Demon
When you eating with family / friends and some one offers you "just a small desert because you have been so good", take it, thank them and say I am going to freeze this and enjoy it when i hit my goal. That way you are not denying it just delaying it. Worked for me.
