Default Nutri ninja for Salad?

Hello everyone,

I feel like I need to double check that there is nothing deviant here;

I just got myself a nutri ninja (one of those extraction things that blends up all sorts into a smoothie)...

I have been putting my allowance of spinach, including fresh ginger into it, with an apple... effectively drinking my salad allowance as a smoothie.
Then I have been having my protein at the same time, but just on its own.

There is nothing wrong with this right? It feels a bit wrong

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

Hi Riss,

I have read that liquefied foods are absorbed in the digestive tract easier (and quicker) than whole foods as the digestive process is reduced with the food already extensively broken down.
This wouldn't impact nutrient absorption but it may cause a spike in blood sugars as carbohydrates could be converted to glucose more efficiently.

I have insulin resistance so monitor my carb count closely. I don't have much, if any, fruits in smoothies - they spike my blood sugar too immediately.

I was making all veggie smoothies and had solid weight loss at the beginning of this year although not at the amount/speed compared to previous Cohen's attempts or other members.

I've given up the smoothies in Feb for whole veggies and do notice a difference in the way I eat. With a smoothie breakfast, I looked forward to that mid-morning snack. With a whole food breakfast, I have to remind myself to snack.

I firmly believe that as Cohen's is a lifestyle program, you will need to make adjustments so you can live this way forever. If you love a smoothie and it makes you feel good, lose weight and keep you DF - then go for it!

Best of luck - sorry for the ramble.
