Thanks Lovely for your concern, I really am getting quite desperate, I am losing control and have to do something to get this happening. If I don't I am scared I am going to totally lose it. I am walking a knife edge, one slip is disaster.

I have emailed my clinic about my slow weight loss, I got a standard form type reply, have you done this, this and this type of thing. All of which I have done. I can't see that I have any other option.

GUG I am really concerned for you, do you think you have given your plan long enough to work its magic on you. Are you sure you are following the plan completely and not unintentionally deviating? Is there a friend or family member you can talk to about this, perhaps to get a different perspective on it?

I am really fine, nothing to worry about. I have been on the plan for 2 months now and have only lost 5kg. I have PM you my food diary that I fill out every day, there is nothing on their that I am not supposed to have so I don't know how I could be unintentionally deviating. And that is also another valid reason for me to go ahead with this plan, there is no opportunity for an unintentional deviation.

My SIL is a cohen's graduate 3 years ago I think it was, she is a great support but I wouldn't tell her about this, she would be against it and try and talk me out of it.

I know the problem is with me, not the program because it works so brilliantly for everyone except me. If I knew what the problem was I would solve it, but as I don't I have to try different things to at least try to kick start my weight loss.

Hey GUG

I dont believe that calorie counting will make any difference...our bodies are not working on the calorie in/out model...Cohens is based on a different science all together...and its hormone based where are bodies have switched into fat burning mode...if it was calorie based then exercising would make a difference...but it doesnt all it does is slow the weightloss!

Look at yr ticker? You have lost over 30kg and your body can only release the fat as quickly as it can...why bore yourself with lettuce? I think the only thing becoming more restrictive will do and that is feed into obsession and anxiety which are the precursors to a binge. Believe me i have been there...

Relax follow your program and most of us experience a plateau at some time - i am sure you have just experienced yours...so enjoy the rest of your time on Cohens varying your foods...there is no need to punish yourself.

Keep happy

Thank you Hexi I appreciate your post and I understand what you are saying, I think I had better change my ticker to indicate the amount of weight I have lost while being on Cohens, rather than the total amount of weight I have lost in the past 5 months, it is deceptive to those who don't know what I lost before I started Cohens.

The taste of food doesn't really bother me, it is just fuel and for me personally frustration and dissapointment is more likely to lead to a binge than would either boredom or hunger, I can deal with both of those, I can't deal with losing control and that is what is happening right now. I know my indicators, and although I can verbalise them and acknowledge them I can't stop them. And I can't afford to lose control, it is all I have.

But I am happy this morning as I have had the biggest overnight loss to date of 500g, I don't envisage that what I am currently eating will be long term, just enough to kick start my body into losing weight and then I will start to introduce other plan protiens and vegies slowly and see what the affect on me is. Gee for all I know it could be something totally innocent that is stopping me losing weight, but I have to find out what it is and the only way to do that is to go back to basics and work it out from there.

Ok now that I have 2 tickers it is easier to understand the difference in my weight loss, precohens and now on cohens, I lost 24.7kg in the 3 months before starting cohens and 6.7kg in the 2 months since I have been on cohens. I think that gives a clearer picture of my reason for frustration, also remembering that 500g of that 6.7kg was last night alone after I changed the way I am eating. I started my own diet on the 19th of October, and then started cohens on the 19th of January. In my mind it has to be something that I am eating now, that I wasn't eating before that has caused this incredible slow down and when I have discovered what it is I will cut that food out and go back to eating a greater variety of food.

Hi GUG

I gotta agree with the others 300cals a day is way off for any diet. Maybe because of the diet (I dont know which diet) you were on before Cohens your body hasnt adjusted back to normal yet or maybe you are just plateuing because you already have lost an enormous amount of weight.
I have been the slowest loser on Cohens as well. 15kg in 14 weeks. Most people are way past me. However, I feel great and look ok as well. I have finally hit the 70's which is great. On the 1st March I weighed 80.6kg and today I am 79.7kg. Loss in 13 days of 900gms.
Try to stop beating yourself up about it and enjoy all the foods not just limp lettuce and you will see the weight and cms come off.

Cheers Bronnie

Awww GUG, I'm sorry this has been so frustrating! Maybe the diet you were on before did a bit of a number on your metabolism??

Also, be careful eating too much lettuce...I've heard it has a fair amount of sodium in it so too much may end up bloating you a bit.

Are you having yogurt or egg for breakky?? And have you tried having meal 3 for breakky and meal 1 at dinner time?? I do this for a week every so often to shake things up and it seems to do the trick.

Best of luck, and I know it's tough but try not too stress about it or you may end up stalling longer

Thanks Bronnie, I have read and reread my plan and it doesn't say anywhere that I can't do this, I am sticking to the plan 100% so it must be ok. My previous diet was of my own making and maybe it did mess me up, but the 500g loss overnight is affirmation that this is what I need to do right now. Gremlin thanks for the advice of changing my meals around, I did that often so I could have a cohens version of an egg and lettuce 'sandwich' for lunch or an egg salad for dinner. This morning I had a small egg and lettuce for breakfast, for lunch I will have low fat cottage cheese and lettuce and for dinner tonight I will have fish and lettuce, no fruit, tea, softdrink or crispbreads, just water.

GuG hon,

You are walking a knife edge here ... have you not heard about not eating enough to lose weight .... If you eat only 300cals every day ... your body will shut down and you will store EVERY calorie you eat ... you will throw yourself into organ failure.

The idea is to keep it different ... stick to the plan but have one 300 cal day every two or three would be OK ... I did VLCD's for a very long time and was told then under no circumstances to go any lower than 600cals for any length of time or I risked doing damage to my metabolism and my internal organs ....Yes you will lose to start with ... but you will shut down to the point where you will make your body disfunctional ....

You are in a dangerous place hon ... control is one thing but this is leaning toward a dangerous way of thinking .....

Maybe chatting to your SIL is not a bad idea.... the stagnant weight may be your bodies reaction to last weeks deviations ... the program works if you follow it ... but trying to cheat it is never a good idea - it's designed to work by using all options available ....

Please GuG .... reconsider your plan, talk to your clinic about ways to help if you think you are plateauing ... but bear in mind Irene, penny and myself spent sometimes two weeks or more at the same weight .... The human body is a complex beast and trying this may have the exact opposite result in the longer term.

Connie

Hey Gug...

I understand your feelings of frustration. I too become a little obsessed with my weight every morning. I also know that no matter what anone says to you, you are going to do what you want to do! (as I am exactly the same)

Even though I am only in week 2, I fear that Cohens wont work for me either and that my weight loss would be extremely slow.

You might want to have a chat to determined28... she had 2 very slow months. I think she only lost 2kg's in total or something! She might know some stuff or have some handy hints!

Be safe and stay strong!

Gug, I don't think you'll listen to me as you do seem set on your choices, but I do know from experience that if you do not feed your body enough and don't give it the right nutrients (which lettuce certainly isn't if it's the only vege you eat), your body goes into what's called starvation mode. When this happens, no matter what you do you will not lose weight. The body thinks it's starving so it hangs onto all the fat it can for dear life. You may have had a good 500 gram loss overnight, but long term you are harming your health. As others have said, you've lost over 30 kilos all together and at some point your body will slow down the loss. Please have healthy vege choices. Dr Cohen would be really upset if he knew you were only eating lettuce. Mushrooms are great, and good for you, zucchini is another one. In fact all the vege choices on our list are great and won't make you gain weight.

Please don't think me rude. I am really quite concerned for you. You're possibly damaging yourself emotionally as well as physically. Read my diary and you'll see I have stuggled emotionally with slow losses lately and everyone here has been just amazing in their support. I do know it'll happen, just not as quickly as I first hoped.

Please take care of yourself

Thank you Michelle for your concern, I am considering all options to discover what is right for me. You started Cohens the day before I did, and look at your amazing weight losses, wow that is unreal, well done, you will be in double figures before too long, well done.

Gug, I may have lost more than you since starting Cohens, but you've lost almost 32 kilos, which is almost double my loss. You can't compare. I am struggling to lose much over the last 3 weeks. I think you're being rather unfair to your body. You've lost an awful lot. Give your body a chance to catch up with itself. As my clinic tells me, it's not just the scales, it's also the measurements. Every so often your body goes through a realignment and is adjusting itself to it's new weight.

I am very concerned that your eating habits are rather unhealthy and ultimately harming you. Why not accept a slower loss and enjoy the good food on offer in the program. I wish Dr Cohen could see what you're eating. I'm pretty sure he'd be rather unhappy & worried. You need nutrition!!!

I'll get off my soapbox now and I hope I haven't offended you, but we all need to be responsible about the food we're eating and eat healthily first & foremost!

GuG Ive been on cohens 6 weeks longer than emjay and I emjay has lost 2kgs more than me. Ive only lost 15kg since 6th December which would put me around about your losses but Im not beating myself up about it and cutting out foods. Do yourself a favour and eat more than boring tasteless lettuce. The weight will come off. As they say youve already lost over 30kgs, your now 76 what is wrong with that weight? You must be looking good.
Though one question I am wondering is when you done so well dieting on your own why did you choose to do Cohen's?

Default Re: Giddyupgirl's Diary

Woo hoo, another 500g loss overnight, that is a 1kg in 2 days, I guess my body just need a little shock to start letting go of the fat. I will continue to eat like this today and tomorrow and then on tuesday (official 8 week weigh in) I will start introducing other vegies/protiens and see what happens, until I find out what my problem food is. See I am not going to kill myself, just working out what is causing the problem.

Bronnie the main reason I chose Cohens was because of this forum and the structure of the diet. I was starting to flounder and lose control mentally and emotionally on my own, and I knew what I was doing wasn't sustainable and more importantly I needed support, no one physically around me was prepared to do that for me, so after lurking around this forum for a little while I thought I would give it a go. And I wasn't wrong the support is amazing.

Up until the last 2 days I have average 650g a week loses, at that rate it would take me 33 weeks to lose the 22kg I had to lose when I started cohens, that is beyond the contract period and to be honest with you I would have given up by then and I don't want to do that. I had to regain control and I feel I am clawing that back a little bit at a time at the moment. If I lose control then it is all over for me, plain and simple.

Thanks Michelle, you can stay on your soapbox that is fine with me, and no I am not offended by what you said, I appreciate your support and concern. But I have said that this isn't a long term plan, just a reboot of my system and a discovery process to work out what is slowing me down, back to basics and then to rebuild bit by bit. Four days of eating like this isn't going to kill me, but it may give me the answers I am looking for not just for now but for the long term. We are all different and our bodies react in different ways to different foods, and stressors there is obviously something that I have been eating/doing that is causing me a problem. When I find out what it is I will stop eating/doing it, problem solved for me. Others may not agree with what I am doing but I have to control what I believe is right for me or I have nothing to hold on to, it is all I have left of me.

I love you all and sincerely thank you for your concern and support, but please don't worry about me I really am just fine and pleased I have done this and woo hoo I have reached a mini goal of hitting the 75kg mark so I am happy with that.

Bronnie, to me I don't look any different at 75kg than I did at 105kg, but other people say I do. I am still very fat and very ugly.
