Smile Giddyupgirl's Diary

My Cohen's journey on the 19th of January at 85kg which is the lowest weight I have been in over 15 years. I actually started my own self imposed very strict weightloss plan during the first week of October at the heaviest I have ever been 107.5kg. I was going pretty well on my own, 22.5kgs lost, even did really well over christmas, kept myself strong and was not tempted, but then I started to faulter. Not really sure what the cause was, maybe hit the 3 month mark and it got too hard, I really can't put my finger on the exact cause. I know I was ready to throw the towel in and just accept that I was always going to be a fat person. I did a lot of soul searching and then internet searching and stumbled across this forum. That was a life changing moment for me, this is what I needed. I desired the structure and strictness that Cohen's offers, you can either eat something or you can't, black and white, no shades of grey. And perhaps more than my desire for structure is my desire for the support of others who are battling the same demons as I am day in and day out. I hope this forum can meet that need for me. I live in an isolated part of outback Qld and find it hard to admit my weakness to others, a horrific fear of being judged, and yet I have allowed myself to get so big that I stand out to be judged. The psychology of obesity is very complex indeed.

Thanks for the welcome Laura, looking forward to the journey with other like minded people.

Today is the last official day of my two weeks leave, I was hoping that this morning I would be in the magic 70kg zone, but unfortunately was 80.1kg. A bit disappointed as my weight loss has slowed down again

I cheered myself up by going through my wardrobe and getting rid of all my fat clothes - very liberating experience. Husband suggested that I keep them just in case. He really regretted saying that as there is no just in case, this is it. I will never be a size 20 again, even saying it, size 20 that is ridiculous, I feel so ashamed for ever letting myself get to that stage. It is very bizzare because I have gone from a size 20 to a size 14 in 4 months but in the mirror I am still not seeing it. The only way that I am actually believing that I am losing the weight is because others are telling me I am. Maybe I will never recognise my weight loss, I don't know, like I said the psychology of obesity is very complex.

Just had a thought as I am chewing on a dry crispbread for afternoon tea. Is it allowed to save some of the vegetable allowance from lunch to have with crispbreads. Was thinking these would be nice with a little tomato on them.

cheers

WOW! a size 20 to a size 14 in 4 months!!! thats sooo good!! just stick at it it will keep dropping... some weeks will be slower than others, but it will happen I cant imagine how good it would feel to drop into the 70's! Im still hoping by the end of this week to drop into the 90's! hehe

Im sure eventually ur mind will catch up with ur body, but maybe its just going to take some time...
Definetly a fantastic move to throw all your "fat clothes" away! I cant wait to do that!!!

Ok, another ponderance that perhaps the wise ones can answer for me Can anyone tell me if the following theory on cooking meat in bulk and then applying a formula to it to work out how much cooked meat I can have has any flaws?

If I take say a 1kg piece of 100% lean beef and weigh it raw, then divide that weight by my allowance - say 120g for arguments sake which would give me 8.3333. Now when the peice of meat is cooked, I then weigh it again, and just say it then weighs 750g. To get the amount that is allowed of cooked meat per 120g of raw weight, take the cooked weight and then divide it by 8.3333 which would mean that I could have 90 grams of cooked meat for each 120g of allowance.

I am figuring this would work for any bulk cooking, whether it is chicken, or mince or just a chunk of roasting meat. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I hope that all makes sense, of course the amounts are just as an example. Anything to make lunch easier and quicker to prepare, I really can't come at eating tuna.

cheers

Reached a personal milestone today, I am now a 70's girl, very exciting I know we are not supposed to weigh ourselves every day, but it is life long conditioning and a huge motivator to see the numbers going down. It is naughty, but just a little bit

hey GUG congratulations on reaching 70s!

Re: bulk cooking - I hope someone wise in Cohen would answer your question soon. Myself, I am sticking to the rules (weigh raw protein, etc.) as strictly as I can because my first month was pot-holed with unintentional dumb deviations (I weighed cooked protein to the exact gram la la la). However I do have the luxury of time to prepare my meals the night before so it's not so bad.

Stupid question but do you use a horse to get around? I like horses too.

Hi littlemiss,

hehe no I don't use a horse to get around, I use a car like most regular folk, my horses are my passion, they keep me sane.

And the bulk cooking thing I haven't actually done, it is just a thought to make working lunches easier, and I am sure the theory and formula are sound.

Feeling a bit out of sorts today, not really sure why though. Had a magnificent mango smoothie for breakfast but was a bit late having it. Early morning visitors on a sunday morning put me behind, maybe that is why I am not feeling so good, out of routine. I couldn't have lunch until 2pm so by the time my usual lunch time came around I was starving, and watching my husband chow down on my home made pizza just made it all worse. I ended up grabbing a cracker and taking the dogs for a walk, which was great, but the exercise made me even more hungrier grrrr!

Anyway had lunch at 2, and was so hungry that I ate it too fast and now I have indigestion and didn't enjoy it one little bit, sigh. Now I have to wait until at least 7.30 before I can have dinner, dammit.

Sorry about the whinning but today is the first day I have really felt like deviating and finding it hard to say focused and motivated. Stick insect husband has lovely sweet treats all over the place and is of the opinion that there is no way he is going to miss out because I am struggling with my self control demons. Oh well, I guess I just have to suck it up and get over it if I really want this to work for me. Or as my boss would say 'Take a teaspoon of cement princess and harden the *&%# up!'
cheers

So I'm sitting here laughing cos I also have a stick insect husband. haha - and missed my mid morning snack (cos I wasn't at home) and wandered around the shops - past all the food courts and today was really really tempted to deviate on so many things.
In fact probably everything that I looked at I thought - I wonder how much damage that would do. I raced in & bought my groceries - along with 1 apple which I then sat in the car till I'd finished eating. Phew - crisis averted.

I think its the 1st time that I have really had a struggle, as I have been so focussed.

Hi Mum Chum,

Well done for staying so strong, I have no idea where my devation thoughts came from, but I am figuring that it all stems from my routine being messed with Because I had lunch so late I have only just had my mid afternoon snack, a very sweet and crunchy pink lady apple, very yummy. I am going to make my little cohenburgers for dinner tonight, so that is something to really look forward to, they are just so devine, something I will definately keep eating once I am on maintenance.

Have a great day and stay strong

cheers

Hi GuG,

Aww, the ol' mirror problem.... quite common !!

Hey, first off, congrats on achieving what you already have !!

Short answer to your comment above is, take photos !! Bit hard if you don't have earlier photos - but, do it from now on. There is something about our brains that has them "locking in" info that is not quite right.

In other posts, I've commented that you are likely to get a truer indication of yourself by seeing a reflection in a shop window, than by "squaring up to a mirror". I believe it comes from the difference between a "planned look in the mirror" versus an "impromptu glance".

See, if you are planning a look in the mirror, your "inner fat girl" gets ready to give you a serve !! But, if you see yourself "accidentally", you'll likely get a TRUER reflection.... Do you know what I mean?

Hi GUG,
I find when I am 100% d free, that I'm in a really good place mentally and physically, and focus on wanting to stay there, if I get tempted. Hide your hubby's sweet treats in containers that are not see through and if possible out of your sight (back of cupboard etc).
You asked earlier about cooked v raw weights and early in my programme I weighed individual portions then cooked them and took an average of my"sample range"!!
If this is wrong no doubt someone will tell me but it works for me and makes life easier.
My programme portion sizes may vary from yours but if it helps:
Chicken raw (105gr) = 69 gr cooked, raw (120gr) = 79 gr cooked.
Steak raw (100gr) = 60gr cooked, raw (110gr) = 80 gr cooked.

Thanks for your reply Ladybird, I have been 100% deviation free, but the nagging voices are still there, I am just getting better at ignoring them. I am glad that your averaging is working for you, thank you for sharing that with me. I believe my formula would actually give an accurate outcome of raw meat to cook meat ratio, rather than an approximate that averaging will do.

I would really like to know if we are allowed to save some vegetable allowance from lunch to have on crispbread for afternoon tea. ie a couple of very thin slices of tomato, from the lunch allowance, not extra.

Happy shrinking
