If you can find digestive bran, ( by SNOWFLAKE in South Africa) we are allowed 2 tablespoons a day. ( without replacing anything) It works like a dream. I sometimes mix it with my yogurt, else I use it in the curry/stews to thicken the liquid instead of using a crushed cracker.( In curry it tastes like you have added shredded coconut)

Daily BM's since I have beed doing this.

Thanks Bibabs.. I was tempted to try some green tea again but the last time I tried this (many many yrs ago) I got awful cramps and just had to run all the time to the loo.. I so dont want to go through that again.. but I have reached the stage where I need to do something..

Interesting that we are only allowed 1 Omega 3 tablet when the bottle says take 3 a day.. so therefore is it worth taking one if it isnt going to really be of much benefit?

When I was sooo badly constipated, I had to drink that tea...

but now, when I had sore throat, I had more Ester C and for the firs time in 5 weeks I went to the bathroom without tea...

then I remembered someone told me if you have too much vit.C, it makes you go....

i have found a senna green tea - no additives - just leaf tea - just 100 % Senna Leaf - no caffeine and it works wonders and I mean wonders - make a tea bag and then let it sit for 20 minutes and then drink then next morning no problems and same every day since - very good and no problem. But also as I near goal weight i wonder if my body is just getting "Normal" as it should. It found it at Woolworths and it is mad in Perth.

Yes yes Senna leafs - thats the tea I drink!
Well, sometimes it doesnt work for me... sometimes it does, but the package says not more than 2 times a week and only for 2 weeks...so I wonder why such warning...They say your bowel gets lazy if you drink it too much or too often...

Maya, they say that because it's not good to flush out your bowel regularly, but something gentle won't do too much damage. You don't eat much roughage now and your bowel needs a bit of help.

Kate, there's another thread somewhere and someone posted a list of allowed laxatives. I'm too tired to go looking for it now but you may be able to find it. Your consultant should be able to provide a list of permitted laxatives. However, I'm using Coloxyl with senna which Pandora recommended in the other thread. It's much gentler than senokot.

Thanks Anna Bella, I thought that might be it...
On some other forum someone just told about the mango peel - that yes, it sounds strange, but she heard its full of fiber and cut it in small and had it...she said it helped EACH time...and that its not so bad to eat it either...

I will try when I come to States...Mangoes in Europe are ....pfui .

I also believe somebody here, maybe Andy, mentioned eating the skins from Kiwifruits as well.

It was Faithy's post in Andy's thread of bowel movements.

http://newyouforum.com/smf/index.php...cseen#msg33287

More information on the amazing Kiwifruit and it's many properties. While I don't eat the skins per se, I love Kiwifruit.

So, if Metamucil is allowed and has inulin in it... And I asked my consultant if I can have Miracle fiber that is 100% Inulin, the answer was NO....?????

What about 100% Natural psyllium fiber, it says:
each rounded teaspoonful contains 6 grams of 100% Natural Psyllium Hydrophilic Mucilloid, equal to 3 grams of Soluble Fiber.

Is that allowed???

My clinic said I can have Metamucil and psyllium. I assume that came from Dr Cohen. I wasn't told of any specific quantities. I just accept what I'm told

I've been trying Andy's trick of eating kiwi fruit skin and all and so for it's worked its promise!! I cut the kiwi fruit up finely and mix with my morning yoghurt. There's no taste or awful mouth feel. I guess also I lose less of the fruit itself too when it's not peeled.

All through the program, including refeed ,I had problems with constipation and was beginning to think I was stuck with it. But this is doing the trick at the moment.

I also have found that this tea is magic - a cup a night before bed and sometimes first thing in the morning - and by morning or afternoon - bingo - the jobs right - no problems and its readily available at Woolworth's.

Have a read about it here.

http://www.limtech.com.au/senna-tea.php

All god now !!!!!!!!1 I also eat the Mango fruit skin and the pa pa skin - all good for you anyway as well as the apples.

Thanks, Andy. That tea does sound great.

I'm eating kiwi skin, also I remove the stem (if any) from an apple, cut into pieces and eat everything, skin, core, pips and flesh. It really isn't noticeable with either that I'm eating things that previously I would have discarded.

Unhappy Constipation & Weight standstill

Hi everyone,
I've had a severe problem with constipation since I lost 25 kilos on Cohen's and now my weight is at a stand still after losing 5 more kilos. It just seems that my body doesn't want to let go of anymore weight for some reason and I have stayed tried and true to my Cohen's program and for some reason with this problem of constipation I am having now the dear ole' body is hanging onto every gram of fat it can.

My GP has advised me to keep taking coloxyl with senna daily to keep the bowels going and even with that I don't go every day so I have been on the search for something that is Cohens approved to keep regular.

I also have the kiwi with the skin for the bulk, eat apples as one of my fruits daily, so still on the search for something to keep regular. I drink over the required amount of water every couple of days but keep the water up definitely and still at a standstill for some reason. It is very frustrating if you know that you are doing every thing right to the T and then nothing...

Has anyone else experienced the standstill in weight for 2-3 weeks before moving on with your weight loss?

Any replies on this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jooz

Hi Jooz,
You will not get a bowel movement every day on this program, twice a week is cosidered good!

The weight will drop eventually, it has to
Have you checked your eating plan again to see if you might be doing something not quite right- vitamins, spices etc.

Hang in there you have done a great job so far

Wink Thanks, Shell!

Gosh that was a fast reply, Thank you for the support here, I didn't post that I have some surgical hernias that I'm going to have repaired after I lose another 10 kilos, my surgeon will not do the surgery until I get the weight off so this is an added inconvenience for me right now because of flatulence also with the constipation.

Is Ducolax 5mg. pills allowed as an alternative instead of the coloxyl that I am taking daily?

I am going to check out Woolies for the senna tea to give that a go and try that as an alternative.

I'm so close but yet so far.......

so you can see my frustrations here.

My GP is a sweetheart as she is a Cohen's believer too and she has given me alot of support too along with some good strong medical advice to help me get thru this frustrating time with weight loss & some of the complaints I go to her with.

Thanks again in advance for all the help and support here with this group!

Cheers,
Jooz

Not sure about that laxative but do know that Coloxyl with Senna is the recommended one...check with the clinic if unsure.

Also remember that you are not eating anywhere near as much food so a bowel movement every few days is very normal....

Something Faithy put me onto was eating the apple and core...works fine
