Default Re: Giddyupgirl's Diary

Wow, the support is amazing on this forum, thank you all so much. I have sat down and gone through my menu plans for the last 3 weeks I can find nothing that isn't meant to be there.

I rarely use any herbs because I can't get fresh ones here and I am too scared to use dried ones just in case. For breakfast I ordinarily have 175g of Pauls 97% fat free natural set yoghurt (the only one I can get here) with a teaspoon of psyllium husks, no sweetner. Morning tea at 10.30 is generally an apple and a cup of green tea. Lunch is at 1pm which is generally some form of protein, chicken or beef and a simple salada of tomato, lettuce and green capsicum. I rarely use mayo or balsamic vinegar. I will more often than not have 2 crispbreads with lunch, salada plain 97% fat free (4 little squares). Afternoon tea is 4pm which is another piece of fruit, generally an orange, and perhaps 1 crispbread (2 little squares) and a caffiene free diet coke. Dinner is at 7pm, and it is generally very similiar to lunch but a different meal quantity ie meal 3, and lunch meal 2. I only have a cheese meal twice a week.

Vitamins - I take 1 blackmores 8hours multiviamin, 1 chromium, 1 zinc and 2 magnesium/calcium. I have another chromium at lunchtime and another 2 magnesium/calcium at night. I do take the maximum dose of magnesium/calcium but that is to help ease the cramps, if I didn't take those then there is no way I could continue on with the diet, so maybe that could be a contributing factor, I don't know.

Chewing gum, I may have 2 pieces of sugar free extra peppermint a week. And as for anti caking agents, I don't even use table salt, I use celtic sea salt, so that isn't a problem.

Obviously I am drinking too much water, but surely that could not be the entire reason why I am losing so slowly. I also perhaps don't sleep enough, but that is due to the cramps, I lose between 15-20 minutes sleep with each cramp, but if I go to bed any earlier then I have more cramps so that mitigates the going to be earlier.

The last 7 weeks of my own weight loss plan I averaged a weight loss of 2.300kg a week.

I will try emailling my clinic tomorrow, I haven't had any contact with them since I rang them to give them my start weight.

Thanks again everyone for your amazing support, you are all such incredible people I feel privilleged to have you all on my weight loss team.

That's AWESOME !! What was it that had you losing resolve??

Sorry Koh I didn't answer all of your questions. I did tell the clinic the amount of exercise I do each week when I filled out my application. Yes I would say that I am in the "zone", I have enough to eat, and never hungry, have plenty of energy etc.

When I said I was losing resolve on my own weight loss plan, I had no support and a lot of negativity, and not being a doctor I was getting concerned that perhaps I was doing myself harm by eating such a small amount of food. I was not in the "zone" and never was for the entire 3 months, it was a hard 3 months and really I was very tired and couldn't do it anymore.

Perhaps your old fat theory of yours could be something, maybe it was just the timing of my starting Cohen's, and I may have slowed down regardless of what weight loss program I was following, who knows, maybe I am just clutching at straws.

Hi GUG,

Hmm, so which would you prefer then?

Quote:

But you lost a lot of weight? Not enough? So, question to the member from doubtsville "Would you rather lose a little slower, and easier, or lose quicker but harder?"

Seriously, Gug, as always, it is YOUR CALL !! I dunno why you are only losing 1 Kg a week. I also don't know if you will CONTINUE to lose just 1Kg a week.

But, if you are feeling better, and life is good, why not just live it, and accept the weightloss that happens as you CRUISE !!! When you are cruising, time (and hardship) seems to settle into the background, yeah?

Good luck, giddyupgirl,

Koh

Thanks Koh,

to be honest the hard part was a sacrific I was prepared to make, just wasn't willing to go on not knowing what the long term effects on my body would be. So yeah I would rather lose quicker and harder than slow and easy. Motivation is at an all time low right now.

Hmm, OK - at this time, then, I'll wish you a good night and suggest (again) that you be in touch with your clinic - 'cos I don't think I can be of any more help to you, Gug. I wish you the best,

Hey Gug, Cant believe you are so down on yourself. Look at what you have accomplished. That is awesome - I know I am new but hey, 28kg is absolutely nothing to sneeze at / actually twould take an almighty cough ! Thats huge. I would think not to get caught in the analyising, just accept that the program works and as Koh said 'if you are feeling better, and life is good, why not just live it, and accept the weightloss that happens as you CRUISE !!! When you are cruising, time (and hardship) seems to settle into the background!
Keep your chin up Gug - you can do it.

Hi Gug,

Hope you had a good night's sleep !! I just wanted to suggest that you re-read my thoughts and really give each one some time and consideration. Sometimes (a bit like the program) we can miss things as we read, or maybe just not "see" the message within the words.

Maybe read just one at morning tea, another at afternoon tea, etc. I really think there will be some "clues" in there for you,

Koh

And thanks for your kind words

But your previous post said you were tired and just couldn't go on...

I know that if I was feeling tired and no energy I wouldn't be able to keep it up long term and would probably get sick (which sounds like the reason you stopped it) which would probably lead to a weight rebound. You and I both know that Cohens will work and 1kg per week is still a lot more than most other programs can do - and we also know that if we follow the guidelines for maintenance, we will keep this weight off for life. So I urge you to hang in there, try to weigh yourself less often (perhaps you are someon who just needs to do it monthly), take your measurements to see that you are shrinking and keep cruising. We are all impatient to get to the finish line but it is a life change so getting there is only the first step. Know that you are doing the right thing for your body and your mind and as someone else said - 1 kg per week is 52 kg in a year!!!

Something occurred to me this morning as I was weighing my breakfast yoghurt - have you checked the batteries in your scales? If they are low they can weigh wrong. A small but significant thing.

I also read something about 'when are you eating your crackers' as that can make a difference. But blowed if I can remember if it was on here or in a newsletter

Hang in there - you are right, we are you weight loss team. Think of the Nicorette Ad - No Garry No - well we are all signing "Go Giddy Go!" Because you WILL get there!

Thanks guys for your help and support, I didn't sleep well last night but that was because I have been wracking my brain trying to work out what the problem is, and I have come to a couple of conclusions.

1. I am following the program as it is written 100% but
2. I am drinking too much water
3. Not getting enough sleep
4. Stressing too much over it and other things in my life
5. Concerned I am over dosing on magnesium/calcium tablets
6. Perhaps the psyllium husks are also causing a problem
7. Suck it up princess and get over yourself!!!
8. This program, although proving to be a little slower for me is a much healthier and safer way to lose weight
9. Stop whinging, and accept that this is the way it is and make the best of it.
10. Appreciate and accept the value of the brilliant advice and support given by the wonderfully amazing people on this forum as the expert opinions that they are.
11. Be proud of the 28kg I have already lost, focus on that rather than the 20kg still left to go.
12. Take one day at a time and not look too far ahead - baby steps.
13. Take a teaspoon of cement and harden the F up!

Sorry to everyone for inflicting my inate whinging on you all and thank you for your amazing support. You will see nothing but positive attitude from me in the future I hope.

I just had to share this one. The beef pattie alone is 1.2kg, no wonder we are rapidly becoming a nation of obese people when you can go into a pub and buy this. All I can say is OMG.

Well well well GUG - I leave this forum for a couple of hours and come back and you are a different person

I wondered about the psyllium husks but haven't checked if they are allowed on the program but am sure you will.

Most of the rest makes 150% sense though (you and Koh can work out that maths ! But don't be too hard on yourself ok?

Now have you got hold of your clinic?

I tried to ring the clinic again but got voice mail, so emailed them asking to give me a call. No response yet, so I am just shutting up and putting up from now on. I will lose the weight eventually.

Hi Gug,

As I know just how bl**dy awful cramps can be, I wanted to comment on this :-
Quote:
I do take the maximum dose of magnesium/calcium but that is to help ease the cramps, if I didn't take those then there is no way I could continue on with the diet, so maybe that could be a contributing factor, I don't know.

One question - are you using salt? You see, I'd thought I'd heard that magnesium helps cramps - but a Search of "cramps" leads to comments that "not enough salt" leads to cramps. Maybe it is a bit of both?

But, with you sounding like you are depending on magnesium, it might be worth using a bit of salt, and gauge the result. Maybe we need BOTH - but I dunno - I'm not a doctor, or nutritionist, either ....

I'll pop back in with a link when I find it,

And, hey, as jlou said "You sound like a different person" - good on you !!

Hi GUG

All you can do is follow the program 100% - that is ALL you can do...nothing more, nothing less. Each of us will release as much possible fat as is possible for our own unique bodies...live for the moment and small goals along the way...

Trust in the program and give your brain a rest from over analysing things - that being said in a nice way...otherwise you will do your head in!

Hi Gug,

Found it - and, do note that this thread I am linking also has links within it.
Aching muscles and cramps - can someone help ?

Also, it is good that you use Celtic sea salt - maybe the question is how much? As I said before, though - "I dunno - I just read a lot, and try to help when I think I can"

Koh thanks for the link I have had a good read and done some further research. I have cut my water intake to 2.75 litres and adding a half a teaspoon on celtic sea salt to a little water and drinking it. Not something I would advise, it tastes revolting, and trying to add a little bit more salt to my food as well. When I finally get to speak to my clinic then I am going to ask them about taking actual salt tablets that you can get from the chemist and also ask if I can increase the amount of magnesium.

And yes Koh after a lot of soul searching last night I decided that I needed an attitude adjustment So all positive now, no more whinging and whinning, I will keep that to myself from now on.
