Hi Jem,

Thanks for the encouraging words and example. You've done so well this year.

I know all about holding myself back for all kinds of imagined limitations. As many of us cone to realize, this program really is not just about the food. On a physical level, sure it is. But when the food crutch is taken away, many of us find we need to address our emotional/psychological issues to live better lives.

Look forawrd to sharing more of your journey.

Thumbs up Re: Jem_HA's Diary - For the Second and Final Time

Attended some training today. One of the sessions was on Habits of Mind and principles really resonated with me as a means to overcome the mental challenge of weight loss.

1. Persistence: Stick at it! Persevering with a task through to completion; remaining focused. Looking for ways to reach your goal when stuck. Not giving up.

2. Managing Impulsivity: Take your time! Thinking before acting; remaining calm, thoughtful and deliberative.

3. Thinking Flexibly: Look at it another way! Being able to change perspectives, generate alternatives, consider options.

4. Thinking about your Thinking: Know your knowing! Being aware of your own thoughts, strategies, feelings and actions.

5. Thinking Interdependently: Work together! Being able to work and learn from others in reciprocal situations. Team work.

I find these to be very grounding...just need to remind myself of these from time to time.

Started a photo album - it's private at the moment. Maybe when I have some slim photos to provide balance I'll make it public...

Trust you're doing well. Jem. Thanks for sharing the Habits of Mind principles. Very useful. I will come back to this page next time I am in doubt or lacking determination.

Take good care.

So big BIG day for me yesterday! I turned 30 yesterday AND I got engaged! Such an exciting step for my partner and I (we've been together for almost 6 years).

If I was searching for motivation, it's currently sitting on my left ring finger. Not only as a reminder that I'm doing this for myself AND my family but my ring is the tiniest bit tight - need to loosen that baby up with some weight loss!!

It's been a while since I logged details. Some hormonal weight gain, measurements all down from previous. Plenty of room for improvement!

CONGRATULATIONS Jem & partner!!!

That is such exciting news!!

There is not much better motivation than a wedding!! You will probably find you need to have your precious ring sized down as the weight starts falling off!! I couldn't wear mine (engagement&wedding rings) for about 5 months, couldn't afford to get them sized more than once so had to wait til the very end... I had to go down about 3 sizes!!

Keep on Cohening and smiling!!

Allie

So it's been another off week for me...I can always keep to timings and always keep to the food groups but I am overeating and sneaking in the sweets!

We had the last of birthday celebrations over the weekend with a BBQ and I'm ready to re-focus. I'll be completing a 5-day sugar detox (by Sarah Wilson - IQS) and then get back on Cohen's in earnest.

The detox is low carb, no sugar (not even fruit), moderate protein, full fat. I hope to transition to Cohen's quiet easily from this.

I've been reading through some diaries today (I'm procrastinating at work) and came across a great way to make those weight loss goals more meaningful by linking them to period of times that I felt good being at those weights...so here goes:

104 kg - the weight I was when I met my now fiancé.

99kg - because it's been years since I was in double digits!!

87kg - the starting weight of my very first attempt at Cohen's in May 2004.

72kg - the finishing weight of my very first attempt at Cohen's (prior to re-feed which I did not complete) in July 2004.

68kg - would give me a BMI the middle of the healthy range.

65kg - middle of the weight range determined by Cohen's.

These seem achievable and I hope motivational. Must copy them down on to my phone or something.

I'm also rewarding myself with Pandora stackable rings for every 10kgs lost this year. Some extra incentive to get the weight off!

Detox has been very successful - deviation free and no inclination for sugar or refined carbs. No change on the scales but I look and feel less bloated which is fantastic (and tells me my system is less inflamed).

Time to transition to Cohens! I'm going to miss the added fat (I loooooove avocado!! and cooking with butter has been very flavoursome).

Day 2 of REP (Recommenced Eating Plan) and feeling great - deviation free and feeling satisfied. A little tired but a cuppa will fix that.

Check-in again on weigh-in day (Sunday)

2.1 kg down! Woo-hoo!!

Had an amazing dinner last night of pizza (proper pizza) made on a cauliflower base! Very inclusive as my partner was also having homemade pizza (but on a flour base)

Got some yummy dinner plans this week too - going to make risotto (with grated cauliflower and zucchini). Yum!
