Protein Cookies / Bars
I'll be going interstate soon and staying in a hotel. There may be times when I have no control over food provided and I won't be in a position to bring food "from home". In the past I've done diets where meals were replaced with protein cookies / bars - consisting of mainly protein and very minimal carbs. I still have some of these left over and am wondering if I should bring these with me - just in case I'm stranded. I figure it would be better to eat one of these than cereal or bread or whatever. I have not deviated once since starting and the mere thought of not being able to control my food while away is starting to play on my mind. Any thoughts would be most appreciated. Thanks, Miss O. |

Re: Protein Cookies / Bars
Have you thought of contacting the Hotel in advance and checking what will be available on their menu for you. They may be able to help you resolve the issue without resorting to bars etc. It is likely that the Hotel would have some fresh options that would suit better than processed protein bars.

Anyway, about my interstate travel coming up - I was worried of turning up to breakfast facing only cereals & toast - hence my panic and thinking of having a back up plan. I was told this booking's breakfast was a "cold breakfast", so I'm guessing no eggs, and as for their yoghurt - it's probably loaded in sugars. Anyway, I'm sure I'll work it out - even if I have to eat tuna on crackers for breakfast |

No. 1
If there is a hot water jug in the room, suggest you take along a couple of eggs for your stay. Crack an egg open in a zip lock bag. Take a small grater with you with a couple of zuchini, onion powder, salt etc. Add the grated vege's (what ever you have) and squish it up a bit. Put the whole lot sealed in the ziplock in the sink and pour the boiling water in and let sit a bit. It will turn out a bit like scrambled egg! You may have to do this a couple of times to get it completely cooked. Its worth the effort and at least you know you are not deviating at all! I've done this several times and this method got me through! Good luck! No. 2. The other thing you could do is to take your yoghurt and fruit with you and put it in the fridge once you get there. Take what you want in a little insulated bag with one of those frozen plastic block things to keep it cool until you get to where you need to go. If the insulated bag thing doesn't work for you you could still use the frozen block thing, wrap up everything in a good layer of newspaper, slip it all into a large ziplock bag and put it in the suitcase. It is amazing how long it will last. Most flights around Aussie land are only 3-4 hours anyway so everything should still be cool when you arrive. No. 3 Cook, store in ziplock bags and freeze complete meals to take with you. Boil the jug and put the whole of the ziplock bag into the sink in the boiling hot water. Keep doing this until it is heated through. No. 4 Don't forget, you can always slice mozzarella cheese, onion, tomato and have on your crispbread allowance! No. 5 Go shopping as soon as you get there and put the required amounts in the refridgerator. Think outside the box! You can do this with hardly any trouble at all........it just sounds hard to do at first! Good luck.!
