I don't know about nz but my clinic says I can use the heart tick stuff I think it's called smart heart mince. It has to be very lean mince. Alternatively get the butcher to mince your meat for you. I don't eat it very regularly at all:

Re: Beef mince
I do get it regularly from the butcher. I choose non fatty round steak and have him mince it for me. I know exactly what it was like beforehand.

Re: Beef mince
Ha ha. My clinic advised to rather select your meat and then request the butcher to mince it for you. We have Xtra lean mince here in SA but you still don't know what is in it. So I am with you on that one Ciors!

Re: Beef mince
I've thought about getting the butcher to mince it but I've been worried about cross contamination with other meat. What if he has just minced some chicken, pork or lamb and some of it ends upon your mince? Do you think this could happen or am I being paranoid.

Re: Beef mince
I've just bought the good looking more pricey stuff at the supermarket - can't remember if it was prime or premium... only had mince probably 10 or so times in total - so not that often as only have meat in my M2 and normally do either cheese, seafood, or fish before turning to meat

Re: Beef mince
I use the extra lean beef and on occasion have used lean beef and I've still lost weight. If it changes I'll advise.

Re: Beef mince
My coach told me I could use prime/premium mince - and I have it at least twice a week (love mince) and so far it's been ok for me...... I had been starting to panic about trying to get to a butcher (none local) that was open at the weekends to get meat minced etc... so now I buy about a 500gms pack of premium mince from Supermarket and freeze it in my portion sizes

I am in love with my homemade patties so have beef mince for tea quite regularly! (approx 4 times a week)Probably shouldn't but have had no adverse effects as yet and continue to lose every week

Re: Beef mince
Hi, my partner works in Woolworths as a butcher. The meat they use for the Heart Smart mince has the least amount of fat and uses the better cuts of meat (as required by the Heart Foundation). Premium is okay but has slightly more fat than the Heart Smart. Heart Smart is like getting steak yourself and mincing it. Hope this clears it up for you. After working in the Meat Department myself and seeing the meat they use, I always buy Heart Smart mince now.
