Keeping the Forum Tidy and Clean of Spam

Hello Happy Forumites

When you are reading a post, if you think the post may be spam, or if there is advertising in the signature, please click the red warning triangle in the top right hand side of the post window

The red triangle is next to the computer icon

Clicking the red triangle alerts the Forum Moderators that a post may be spam or that there may be advertising in the signature. Please do not reply to the post yourself as otherwise this just complicates the thread. If there is one post in the thread then the Moderators can simply disable and remove the whole thread

The New Your Forum is a clean and tidy forum, well run by the volunteer Moderators and a place for us all to enjoy

Keeping the Forum tidy, and free from spam and unauthorised signature advertising, contributes to our collective enjoyment of the space

You can also make sure that you don't have a direct and active email included in your visible User CP / Personal Profile information

The Forum Administrators need to have your email registration on file, but a click through 'email to' is sufficient if you are comfortable allowing other forum users to email directly to you via the forum Please do not allow your email to be visible as this may attract or encourage spammers to email you directly

The Administrators and Moderators can't read every single post, and need your help to manage the forum in a proper way

We need your help to alert us to improper posts, so click that red triangle if there is anything bothering you and we will take it from there

Since putting up this thread, we have had an increase in the number of posts reported as spam

This makes the Mods job lot easier as we can swoop and delete the posts quickly. Spam is a bit like graffiti, it should be removed as soon as possible

Since Kristine put up this post, I've been awakened from my slumber and have had a ball trying to beat Kristine to the knockout round! When I get a flurry of notifications, I usually start from the old first so often I get half and Kristine gets half! You, the reader, makes our job a lot easier to keep a clean & readable board. I've been doing this for 8 years here in Singapore at the #1 expat board here. (I've got threads on that board that have 28573 replies and over 5.7 million page views in a single thread alone. Moderators need all the help we can get as we are all volunteers and often are working full time jobs as well. Thanks readers for the help.

Please read my #1 Post in this Thread (started in 2013 when I was a new Moderator), and help the Admin & Moderators to keep the spam and rubbish under control

It's as simple as clicking the red triangle at the top right hand side of the post you want to report This does not remove the post but it alerts the Moderators that all is not well!

Please don't reply to the spam posts. Just report them. Moderators may not log in every day but I noticed today that nine posts I reported yesterday have been deleted, so it does happen but as all Moderators are volunteers, not immediately!

Keeping spam and rubbish posts out of the Forum takes vigilance and a little bit of effort, but a clean Forum is a good Forum

The Old Stallion rides again! hehehe! We're Back! We might be fighting this alone for a while but I think between you and me and some help from our friend/readers we'll get 'er licked. As you noted and as I said to you yesterday, I'm still working a full time job and what I didn't say is I'm also the Senior Moderator of the No.1 Expat Forum in Singapore. (have been for a dozen years now). So I'm fairly busy but as long as I get the notifications via email, I'll get 'er done. (The site is slow tonight so I'm working on the ones you send in the past couple of hours but it's slow going. Might not get 'em all off until tomorrow morning (it already 11 pm here).

This post was made to remove an annoyance - a spammer had posted a message about Bitcoin. It had been deleted, but this didn't delete the "last Post" message from the Home Page Index, thus the last post made on the Forum Announcements board was showing as "Convert B coin for paypal"

So, my reply today (quite apt, methinks) was made in the "Keep our Forum free from Spam" topic - and this should replace the "Last Post" about Bitcoin.

Yes, a timely reminder that even though the Forum is much quieter, spammers still find it and the Mods still rely on genuine Forum participants to report spam as soon as it appears, so that we can delete it as soon as possible

Red triangle , at the top right of the post next to the #number eg [#14] , will report the post to the Moderators
