Hypothyroidism - anyone else have it?
My levels sank way way way low and so Dr told me to stop Cohens and eat more and more regularly to help with my metabolism, energy and depression. Levels are almost right again, and I'm keen to get back on Cohens. Anybody else with the same disease? Got any tips?

Hypothyroidism - anyone else have it?
For those interested in what this is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypothyroidism In short: Hypothyroidism is the disease state in humans and animals caused by insufficient production of thyroid hormone by the thyroid gland. Causes There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism in human beings. Historically, iodine deficiency was the most common cause of hypothyroidism world-wide. The disease may also be caused by a lack of thyroid gland or a deficiency of hormones from either the hypothalamus or the pituitary. Hypothyroidism can also result from sporadic inheritance, sometimes autosomal recessive. It is a relatively common disease in purebred domestic dogs as well, and can have a hereditary basis in dogs.[citation needed] It is claimed by some in the water fluoridation controversy that hypothyroidism is related to fluoride.[citation needed] Temporary hypothyroidism can be due to the Wolff-Chaikoff effect. It is often classified by the organ of origin:[1][2] Type Origin Description Primary hypothyroidism thyroid gland The most common forms include Hashimoto's thyroiditis (an autoimmune disease) and radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Secondary hypothyroidism pituitary gland Occurs if the pituitary gland does not create enough thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) to induce the thyroid gland to create a sufficient quantity of thyroxine. Although not every case of secondary hypothyroidism has a clear-cut cause, it is usually caused when the pituitary is damaged by a tumor, radiation, or surgery so that it is no longer able to instruct the thyroid to make enough hormone[3] Tertiary hypothyroidism, also called hypothalamic-pituitary-axis hypothyroidism hypothalamus Results when the hypothalamus fails to produce sufficient TRH. And Having seen the signs which are huge, I dont have it. Which one do you have? and What is the problem with it? Peter |

Hypothyroidism - anyone else have it?
I have hypothyroidism, wondering if any other Coheners do too?
Our metabolism doesn't work very well, even under medication, which I'm on. So although it's not impossible to lose weight it is much harder, and has it's own set of 'issues'. Anyone else out there?

Re: Hypothyroidism - anyone else have it?
Hi everyone,
I have hypothyriodism (hashimoto's disease). I am currently on the cohen's program and it does work. i always thought i could blame my disease on my weight and thought i would be fat forever. i did the program in 2002 when it first came available here in adelaide. after losing 26kg on my own (through weight watchers, jenny craig, and any other program under the sun) i couldn't get the last 20kg off. i joined cohen and lost 12kg in 5 weeks. it had been really hard work to lose the other weight. this 12kg literally dripped off of me. don't get me wrong it was hard in the sense it was restriciting. but easy in respects to not having to exercise like a mad woman!!. i funnily enough actually enjoyed it. my circumstances changed, i moved house, was in an unhappy relationship and like was hard and i gave up....i never did refeed. i then spent 4 years battling the last 10kg tried everything all over again (weight watchers twice, sure slim, and exercising like crazy) eventually i met a beautiful man who i funnily enough a gym junkie and enjoys a healthy, active lifestyle and i then gained 10kg LOL (alcohol, happiness, eating out..a life) anyway.....i rejoined cohen after realising it was definately the best program and have lost 11kg in 5 weeks. my life is great. i have a beautiful supportive partner, who helps me believe in myself and loves me no matter what. my hypothyriodism makes me tired, i have a tendency for depression, lethargy and hair loss. i often feel nauseated and some days going to the toilet seems too much like hard work LOL. i have 3 teenage children. one of which suffers from health issues, and one who really is very very hard work. i took the bull by the horns. stopped using how i felt as an excuse, i am now healthy, happier, more confident, my nails grow my hair shines, my skin is the best ever. and i am of course 11kg lighter. i still have 9 kilo to lose but i will i have complete faith. to anyone thinking of joining that hasn't....please do it does work. do yourself the biggest favour you can. you wont regret it. have a great day Tanya |

Re: Hypothyroidism - anyone else have it?
Thanks ThisTime... I'm on the program.. just looking for others who are on it and have hypothyroidism too, as you do.
This is one of the points I'm having issues with at best of time let alone on cohens " and some days going to the toilet seems too much like hard work LOL. " What do you do to combat that.. I can't get any more fibre in to my Cohens program, I drink 3 - 3.5L of water a day. What do you do? Any hints? Yep, Cohens is the only way I've lost decent amounts of weight.
