Default NEWBIE

Hi,

Started my eating plan today and didn't find it too bad. Day one though, how tough is it really to get through the 1st week?

My food list doesn't include much food that I actually like. Did anyone else have this problem ? Out of 16 vegetables listed
I only eat 8 of them - it narrows my choices down.

But I guess when i see results everything will be good

This forum looks like a great place for support - I will be coming here regularly.

Oh and the thing about exercise (not supposed to do excessive amounts) I swim 3k most mornings will this help or inhibit me ?

Thanks
ck

Hi!
I started my eating plan today too!!

That sucks with you not liking the veggies -- I love all except bokchoy which I dont' mind a little bit. Fruit is my hard one.

The thing I've been told with exercise is it is likely to make you hungry on the program...have you been doing this awhile? Could you cut back a bit?

I found today ok as well - i did feel a bit hungry and have mild headache - I was really surprised and glad! that I liked the Vaalia natural yogurt by itself (had to double check it was natural it tasted so good!)

Well keep in touch be good to see how we progress!

Hi ck
Regarding the vege thing - I like them all but in practice only eat about 5 diff veges we're allowed. Don't stress about what you don't like - work out what you can do to make the program work for you. If that means only eating the 8 veges for the next few months then so be it. You will need to get creative with your herbs and spices and ways of cooking so you don't get bored.

Regarding the exercise thing - talk to your clinic about how much and what type is acceptable for you. Good luck with the journey and don't forget to post and we'll support you all the way.

Cheers
Amanda

Hi to you both and welcome to the your personal fan club,

The support here is amazing and when you need a little help all you have to do is call out and someone will hear you.

I'm so glad to hear that you have both started together. It's good to have someone experiencing exactly what you are in the early stages. You can chat about whats happening and develope a good weight loss relationship egging each other on.

It is not mandatory to like or eat all of the veges and you will find those that you favour over all the others. It also makes it easier to shop and you will also find winter different to summer. Fruit is a bit the same although a variety makes for something special occasionally. A lot of people here like stewed apple as an addition to their yoghurt or as a supper treat. I must admit I am a bit of a fan of steak and mushrooms or curry type soups as its the flavours I enjoy more than the food content. I have recently made a cauliflour, mushroom puree/soup with marjoram and chilli over poached chicken it was the best and really good for cold nights. Anyway you will discover your own ways of cooking the things that you enjoy.

Headaches mild or a little more strong are one of the side effects of the first week without sugar etc that is a part of your normal daily diet and once you get over the cleansing process just settle in and let the program do the work for you. All you have to do is follow it. I must admit it is nice not to have a huge list of allowable foods along with this is the amount you can have. The worst part of cooking dinner was what are we going to have and here that is all taken care of.

Good luck and keep us posted on whats happening. It will be good to hear how you are doing and if there is anything we can do to help just let us know.

Regards

Melissa

Welcome to the program!
With the veges, you may also find that your taste buds change. So, every so often consider buying something that you don't normally eat, and maybe cook it a different way to what you normally do. You may find you like it! I don't eat cauliflower as a side dish, but I do like it in soup.
With the exercise, I think it probably will be a very individual thing. I didnt do any exercise before the program, and was very obese, so I haven't done any on the program. Take it easy and watch out for whether you get hungry or tired after exercising. You may just need to cut down for a while.
How much weight do you need to lose?

Thanks everyone - all the comments are really nice and helpful.

I will stick at it. And as for my exercise I am training to compete in the World Masters Swimming Championships next year
in Perth, so cutting back really isn't an option.

I figure I am going about the same speed as I did ten years ago - so if I lose my extra 30.8kg I should go even faster!!!!

glassangel its cool that someone else started on the same day I will be keeping in touch.

My first hurdle is Sunday I am going out to lunch - so I guess if I ask for a grilled steak and a garden salad and just eat
the amount I think I should be OK - any suggestions?

ck

With the hunger thing. Try to eat something often. So if breaky is at 8 say have maybe half a fruit or a couple of crackers mid moring around 10:30/11 then lunch at 1:30/2 and so on.

This will a/ keep the hunger pangs away and b/ the blood sugar constant and then if your still figity after your snack maybe try some gum. You will find your feet soon but remember the rations are not just ment for meal times. Spreading them out will help and it will also alivate the urge for extra non cohen friendly snacking.

As for lunch, go definately you can't stop your life because of your program, but just watch yourself there are ways to adapt a bought out meal - if you know where you are going you can discuss with them what your needs are and see if they can accomodate you or if not ask if it would be OK to bring your own just order coffee. People are accepting if they know in advance.

Stick with it. Melissa

WELCOME

i agree with melissa, space ur food out; i usually have an apple between my breaky and lunch, and a cooked apple between my lunch and dinner. <- this has really made things appear easier.

Veggies: dont stress about it, eat what u enjoy from the list, we all do; i have about 5/6 fav veg which i stick to, but it's good to know: if u get bored with the current veg, u have the option to try the others.

definately go out to lunch, speak to the host/hostess and ask if u can make ur own meat and veggies because of the diet, take ur own drinks too. i, however do not find people supportive, i find that people(with the exception of my closest friends) are permanently trying to get me to "cheat" when we're out, someone people dont understand the whole concept, so instead of getting angry; just accept that people who havent been through weight issues (and the whole shabang) are not likely to understand; and that's ok! Afterall: we are doing this for ourselves and not anybody else. it doesnt sound like anyone else really has this prob except me, but im just going to say it just incase im not alone: my solution: i tell people that i got put on a diet to fix my hormones, (which is true) and if i dont fix them now, then my bones will break by the time im 30 (which is also true).. this always makes them understand, because EVERYONE knows the importance of hormones within the body. and this is exactly what the diet does: helps normalize ur hormones.

one last thing: the headaches that ur experiencing is a good sign, its an indication that ur detoxing which in turn means that ur body is switching over to the fat burning side.. so congrats

i wish u all the best, U CAN DO IT
and we're all here for each other

I was OK today - have headache though - but I have also had a flu like bug this week so could be that - I haven't been hungry at all which I thought I would be.
I am just finding not a lot of choice and that is something I am used to. As for the fruit I only eat oranges & mandarins so that isn't too bad. Think I will try the stewed apple though sounds Ok.

I think lunch will be Ok - I can just drink water which I am very used too - not a problem for me as I always have drunk around 3litres a day.

Well done on the cake !!! I made my husbands tea he had stir fry with noodles and it took every ounce of strength not too sample !!

Day two - yay!!!

I feel good tonight too, not hungry since dinner - I actually didn't end up eating one fruit and two crackers I wonder if that is 'bad' but I wasn't hungry in the evening (was before lunch that took forever to come round!)

I actually even served the cake out and didn't mind...it did smell good tho'

Oh oranges! I forgot they were on the list...I am so not into apples at them moment, love the mandarins and kiwi fruit.

Are you being creative with your food? I tried a couple of the recipes in the back of the eating plan and I am finding hte food really nice, but again I like all the veges!!

Two days down how many to go????
