Re: Why no 5 hour wait
hi
from what i understood, you had to wait 5 hours while on the program because your body had to access the stored fat, however after you have reached your goal weight, you no longer have that extra fat therefore your body no longer needs to find it and the food is burnt off as it is eaten rather than stored Evave

Re: Why no 5 hour wait
I also think refeed is a way to reintroduce your body to the ways of eating during a normal lifestyle. You can't always wait 5 hours between meals so it introduces that element into your body in a controlled way.
As a general rule, I will be trying to keep the 5 hour limit where ever possible once I am on my own. It's a simple guideline that makes sense. |

Re: Why no 5 hour wait
Hi
While we are on the program we must not mix proteins and we must wait five hours between meals. This is because it takes five hours to empty the stomach. If we eat earlier than that, there may be some of the previous protein still in the stomach and therefore the next meal would mix the proteins. Each protein is unique. Obviously, we are not eating pure protein, but by keeping the chicken separate from the egg (so to speak) we are making sure that our body finishes one job before it starts another. 'Out in the wild' we must be able to just eat normal food. If there is cheese in our chicken salad or egg in our chicken stiry fry, or we have a steak and a pork sausage at dinner, well goodness me, that's what eating normally will do for you!! So, we gradually introduce mixing proteins during refeed. Then, when we have, say, yoghurt and muesli for breakfast and perhaps a bit of cheese for morning tea and a Caesar salad for lunch, etc etc our system is not going to collapse and neither will we. The five hours wait is for no other reason than that, and once we finish the program we just don't need the empty stomach / five hour rule to apply and so it doesn't. Cheers Kristine PS: It has nothing to do with 'fat burning'. Blood sugar is converted to body fat by the production of insulin. Keep up the proteins, limit the carbohydrates in all forms including peas, carrots etc and the body will run in balance. Most importantly, don't eat more than you need to do to maintain a healthy body. I maintained 130% of a body before, I actually had to eat a lot more to maintain the obesity. Now that I am slim, I actually need to eat a lot less. Eating less is easy when you are a Cohen's Graduate. Learning what to eat and how to eat it is what the program is all about, so once you are finished you will find the weight is very easy to maintain - and strategic details such as the five hour rule are not part of the ongoing maintenance. |
