Loss of periods after maintenance..?
I haven't had a 'normal' one for ages...while I was on the program I had a very light one about 3 months ago and nothing since.. I thought once I had gone through refeed they would resume but nothing so far...

Hi Hexi
What an inspiration you are! I've so enjoyed reading your diaries and learning about your weight loss journey. I have about the same amount of weight to lose as you had and I know I will be coming back again and again to your diaries for encouragement and inspiration. Thank you for posting them. About the lack of periods, I don't think you have anything to worry about. I think it's a normal response to what you have put your body through and it will probably take a couple of months to get back to normal. We often hear of people who are over thin (anorexic, pow's, etc.) who don't have a period until their weight is back in the normal range. Also, quite often, athletes miss periods due to intense training, weightloss etc. and it doesn't come back until life becomes more normal. I think that if it takes a year after finishing Cohen's before we can have surgery there must be other big body changes that will take time to settle itself into the new you. When your body realises this is how life is going to be from now on, it has to catch up and readjust your cycles but it may take a little time. If you think about it, even BM are changed for a while, why not menstrual cycles which are hormone based and more "complicated" than BM! If you're really worried, you should go and see your doctor but my guess is that you're probably feeling healthy and fit and not like there is anything "wrong" as such. Anyway, just my 2c, I would be interested to read what others think too. Again, well done on finishing Cohen's so successfully. You Rock! Louise |

Hey Hexi,
I cant comment on the after cohens period cycle as Im not there yet, however I thought it an interesting topic, as I have been on cohens for 5 weeks now and have had my period for 3 of those 5 weeks, where as before cohens I was lucky to have a period once every 6 months, so its very interesting just how it effects our hormones, and I will be very interested to know what others have experienced during and after the program. There is my 2 cents worth, mind you it really didnt help you did it... Cheers Barb ~! |

Hey Hexi... This worried me a little too...
My last 2 or 3 periods were really weird... they were at the end of the program and during refeed...and it there was only like 2 weeks between the last 2 I then had a proper one a month after finishing refeed. Not sure whats gonna happen now that I am back on the program though... probably not good for the system... oh well... I wouldnt worry about it too much at the moment. If it doesnt settle within the next few cycles I would get it checked though.... but just give it time to settle. Blessya Kannadew

This thread is very interesting - I am nowhere near refeed or being finished but I have always been like clock work with this (down to the hour!) so it will be interesting to see if I have any changes. However, what I find intersting was this 'diet' not originally for women finding it hard to fall pregnant? I would assume one of the things that would assist is this having steady, regular periods?

Two words... "I WISH".
Pre-Cohens I'd have one or two periods a year. As ya do when you're extremely overweight. Now... Clockwork. Every 28 days. It's the ONLY thing I hate about having lost weight! I'd be quite happy to swap with ya Hexi. (except for the anxiety of not knowing why, I understand that, but I'd be quite happy never to have another one). asy.

hey Hexi,
I am not quite there yet but I have noticed mine are quite weird at the moment, went 3 weeks last time ( to the day) with PCOS I expect some variation but I used to be 6 weeks or more ... not less I think what soontobe said is true as well, it's a big shock to your body losing so much bulk and it probably needs soem time to adjust... if you are worried best to see a Dr and see if anything else is going on Connie

asy, it'll happen one day. The only good effect that I can think of about growing old. However, there are a number of not so nice effects associated with no longer producing oestrogen.

Back again to do it all over again, starting from exactly the same weight as last time. My health is not good and my doctor is predicting all sorts of nasty things if I don't lose weight. What else do I do? I help people make money and I help people save money. Please take a look at http://www.acnlinks.clancie.com.au/ |

Hey Hexi... well I only now, as in 3 days ago.. got my period.. it's been at leat 3 months I think since my last one.. I spoke to the doctor about it & he said something like our oestrogen stores itself in our fat cells.. once they are gone through weight loss such as what we have gone through, it can take some time for your period to get back to normal as there is no female hormone floating around to get things going (so to speak).. so dont stress.. it'll come & then you'll be annoyed that it did

What Faithy wrote fits with what my gynecologist said to me when I sailed through menopause with none of the usual symptoms. She said that our fat cells produce small quantities of oestrogen and that therefore my levels would be above those of most women.

opposite effect
Hi everyone
this is a very interesting topic...I have had the opposite effect, because of the contrceptive I use(implanon) I have not had my periods for 4 years(which is normal) but since starting on the program 11 weeks ago I have had my period twice. I have yet to go and discuss this with my doctor. I wonder if anyone that uses implanon has had the same effect.
