Food Relationship Clinic
It seems a lot of us struggle with the emotional aspect of our relationship to food and sometimes reading a book is not enough to help! And if you see a therapist....most of them would not solely specialize in this subject AND most would probably disapprove of this diet!! This clinic would be a big hit! At least with me |

Re: Food Relationship Clinic
What a pity Miss J that you are in the U.S. of A and i am in just S.A. as in South Australia or maybe we could have opened our own special clinic dealing with why we gain weight, lose it, gain it, it truly is all in the mind and unless we fix that, the weight comes off and on.
Anyway, all the best with yr new program and remember to work on your thoughts along the way this time and keep it off! Pandora |

Re: Food Relationship Clinic
as an psychologist ( not currently practicing) i think that most therapists would approve of this diet- it is healthy and nutritious just very low calorie. If you contact the australian psychological society they have a referral system which can connect you to a psychologist who specialises in whatever it is you want to deal with. Be aware that not all people who call themselves therapists actually have the qualifications and may be damaged themselves- caveat emptor
cheers

Re: Food Relationship Clinic
p.s.
there is nothing stopping us from doing what rick does, online here. person centred therapy is ( even though it seems counter intuitive) able to be applied to a group process after 30 years in the game i may be able to assist to start- i understand my relationship with food - i love it , i love the tastes, textures and smells. I also forgot , once i gave up competitive weightlifting, that carb loading could be aproblem. I also used alcohol as pain medication for all the damaged joints and back caused by the weightlifting. Once i saw it as a choice between life and death, my love of food and alcohol became a much less significant factor This is similar to when i gave up smoking ( 4th july 1990)- in hospital on oxygen for 4 days gives one a long moment of clarity cheers

Re: Food Relationship Clinic
I like that idea, McP! This forum has already really opened up my eyes to why people become overweight and what causes them to gain again... without having read what other people have experienced I think I would be completely lost.. I would love to hear what others have learned about their relationship with food.
I am not really in touch with myself in this area

Re: Food Relationship Clinic
Such things DO exisit! I 've been there!
but... This program, and particularly this forum has really helped me to become more aware of my needs and problems associated with food and being overwieght. Stripping away the comfort food (and alcohol) really forces us to analyse what is left behind. So... although we all have an end 'goal' this really is a case of the journey being far more important than the destination (Thats just my opinion) nat |

Re: Food Relationship Clinic
What your saying Nattyg and Lil-doll and Mcpshcy is so true for all of us in life and especially those doing Cohen's.
Just to add as it some 18 months since I completed Cohen's loosing over 60 kg on the program and whilst it was a huge awakening to my eating and general life habits - it still continues to this very day. I think for all that I had learnt about myself and food, food as it was pre Cohen's, and life in general pre Cohen's all needed to be re evaluated after I lost the weight - and then re created - sounds heavy !!! ............. but its not really. You should never stop learning in life. I really had never stopped to consider, but our eating patterns really dictate much of our life and vice versa - and it is like every thing else in life - you reap your harvest from your seeds you sow and the amount gathered is measured by the work you put in during the growing. Never stop the work and never stop the learning. Andy |
